When we bought the house in 1998 on Isabela island it was an abandoned, cinder block bunker with six Marine Iguanas living in the rumble.. We spent a month deciding whether to fix it or tear it down. The local kids offered to get rid of all the iguanas for $20. We decided to slowly reform the structure with the criteria that when finished, the Marine Iguana colony would still be there.
We spent two years putting the lava rock veneer over the cinder block and building the rock garden. It is a genuine work of art. The iguana colony has been at the Pink House and thriving for at least 25 years. Last three years 130 new baby iguanas mame Casa Rosada thai home.. They live in the lava garden along with the now Hostel and Beach Bar guests.
Caleta Iguana House was featured in a BBC Special ‘Galapagos: Isands of Change’, in 2016, with David Attenbourough narrating on how endemic animals have adapted to live with humans in Galapagos Islands.
