It’s no secret that getting along with management people is not always a given, but rather a gift. They often put too much pressure on the backs of already stressed employees, making it a perfectly toxic workplace environment to brew and prosper. And in some more extreme cases, it gets passive-aggressive, to say the least.
The corner of Reddit known by the name which screams sarcasm, Thanks Management, is a safe space to talk about hard things. According to the subreddit’s description, it’s a place made for “Showcasing notices from imperious middle managers, owners, landlords, school administrators, mean bosses, and overall pedants. Bonus points for misspellings, exclamation marks, threats over petty bullshit.”
And they mean it. From evil posters put up in the staff room as if nothing happened to the implementation of very questionable tools that are supposed to boost productivity at the expense of people, these are some take-notes-kids examples of how not to run your business.

Speaking as a Christian, this makes me SO MAD. Abuse of the Bible horrible. For your own gain? Yeah, that fills me with rage. This scripture refers to the one tribe in Israel (the Levites) assigned to be the priests and leaders of worship. The tithe was to go to them for this service they provided. Her response is spot on, and MORE than appropriate. She has way more tact than I could have mustered in her shoes.

Unfortunately, it’s a common practice in the U.S. I’ve been turned down from a job because of my poor credit. They didn’t give two shits that it was all medical bills. How getting stuck with $375k in hospital bills my health insurance wouldn’t pay for equates to poor financial decision making is beyond me. The joys of being American.

Dear Sirs or Madams, I am so very glad you ask. As you may gave noticed I, in fact, had more expensive car when I started working here. The problem 7s, it kept beeing burglared on the company parking lot 3-4 times a week. My need to downgrade my car, and my problematic financial situation arose from the need to frequwntly replace the windows of my car. While I am in no position to tell you how to do your job, one possible solution to this issue might be to pay your employees adequat, so sthey do not have to break into the cars of their coworkers and steal their belongings. Rude behavior toward employees is generally defined as a display of disrespect, a breaking of social norms or expectations, a breach of etiquette, or ignoring "accepted" behavior. It can also mean that a manager is behaving inconsiderately, aggressively, or deliberately offensively.

In such cases, setting boundaries is key. Everyone should learn to distance themselves from a manager who’s mean to them and, at some point, stop taking in all the negativity. In other cases, if you are sure that your boss is incompetent, it’s just reasonable to become a leader on your own.
Management will notice your initiative eventually, and you will likely earn some extra points just by keeping the mean person out of the loop.

30 years ago, I was working in a tanning salon. My supervisor called me at 1:30 am at Sunday night and told me ... obviously drunk ... I had to do her next shift (10 am to 5 pm), because she felt "sick". I told her to take an aspirin and drink plenty of water before bed ... then her hangover might not be that bad. Then I muted my phone and slept until noon ... she had called 23 times ( ! ) and then left a really rude message, basically saying, she was going get me fired. I let my boss hear what kind message she left me, while she was really drunk. I was not fired ... and she received a written warning.
Whatever happens, make yourself a top priority. It’s just not fair to allow yourself to be treated badly and purposefully disrespected day by day by someone who has no reason to do so. In some extreme cases, even the best reasoning is not an excuse for anyone to shout or offend you, whether it’s a co-worker, a manager, or a boss.

I've been prevented by flooding. Swimming wouldn't help either - if my car can't get to the other side it I'm not going to get very far on foot! It would take me over 10 hours to walk to the office. I established a screaming closet at my old job working with autistic preschoolers. I loved my job but it could be incredibly frustrating. It isn't productive or ethical to express this frustration in front of the kids, but we're still human. So I designated a closet in an empty classroom as the place to go when staff became overwhelmed. 'Hang on, I need to run to the closet real quick' was code for 'come take over for me. I just need a minute.'

Hey, at least management is acknowledging that that's exactly what happens in restaurants. You can't, well, shouldn't I guess, hell, shouldn't have to period, do it in front of the customer's, and the walk-in's muffle your voice pretty well so it's a good place. So, my daughters school is supposed to call HQ (I'm a paramedic for the fire department), asks to speak to me, gets routed through whatever channels in HQ to figure out who my captain is for the day, then try getting in touch with my captain who then tries to get in touch with me, but I'm not at the station, and am on a call and could be for hours. Let's assume this is an asthma attack they she already tried to manage before going to the school nurse, who tried to manage it before calling me or calling 911. When all that needed to be done was to call my phone, leave a message (if needed), and as soon as I stop to get water/refill air, I can check it and respond appropriately. That particular employer can pound sand. My phone stays on and near me.

Well, what about that five to ten, sometimes fifteen, minutes of overtime every day that you won’t pay me for, because you decided to put the time clock online, and I have to have my computer up and running so I can clock in by the start of my shift, which means I have to get to the office early because it takes forever to log on and get the program running so I can sign in and not be docked for every minute I’m late, yet you won’t pay for better, faster equipment—-which will burn less electricity to run so you won’t have to be such an asshole about the fraction it takes to charge my cellphone? What about that? (Actually had an employer make that switch to an online time clock, but the work computers took two f*****g forevers to start up so we could sign in. They didn’t pay us for coming in early every day just so we could clock in on time. That’s time theft.)

Honestly, people at my work will spend a half hour, maybe an hour sitting in there watching movies on their phones, make phone calls, etc. If you need to actually use the toilet, sometimes it's difficult to find a stall that isn't being used as a lounge.

I worked at Joann Fabrics. You couldn't have liquids at the cash register. Their reasoning was it was basically a computer, and they didn't want liquids spilled on it. However, that could never happen, since it was raised up on a pedestal type of thing. They just wanted to be asshats.

No, elevator does not move, landlord f*****g pays to have it fixed. One hard jump too many on an upper floor that breaks that cable and landlord will have a bad—-and so easily avoidable—-situation, plus media coverage, on landlord’s hands. Or landlord will be reported to the housing authorities and my lawyer and I will see landlord in court. After which, landlord will not only pay to fox the elevator, but also fines to the court and housing authorities, plus damages to all the tenants in that building.

Seriously, this is not real. When the movie Fight Club was released, the studio put out a promotion package that was based on "Project Mayhem" (the project in the movie) and had things like fake airline safety cards like the ones in the seat pocket on all planes, except with crazy fake instructions and images. They also had a one-sheet of small stickers with assured "notices," and this was one of them.

It's done by tracking software to detect cheating by students being tested online without a proctor (like while distance learning). Apparently the school doesn't want to spring for a lockdown browser, so the students can open their lesson in one window and their exam in another, but are expected not to.

Yes. My daughter's software tracks their eye movements. I don't remember the exact number, but if they take their eyes off the screen for a certain amount of time, it pings the teacher than they're cheating.

So apparently the teacher thinks humans can read like a robot scanner, not moving the eyes/head and an invisible laser just shoots out of the eye's pupil and scans the screen while information is being fed to the brain. Especially since people like this shop owner ARE taking away the public’s freedom. Not only does bullshit like this put people’s lives at risk, it keeps covid in the community for longer, which means restrictions are needed for longer. This is probably specific to that office. There always someone—-only it’s damned hard to figure out who they are—-whose habits ruin it for everyone else. I worked in one place that had what we called a “Phantom Crapper” who never flushed after filling the bowl (what the f**k were they eating?). Thing is, it happened in both the men’s and women’s bathrooms. One day, after the company cut the size of one overstuffed department, it suddenly stopped. Process of elimination (pun intended), we guessed it was one—-or a pair?—-of the departed salespeople. Still never nailed down exactly which one. Too many viable suspects.

At my work, and on a daily basis, they leave their piss soaked drippy d**k paper towels all over the urinals, crammed in behind the handle, on the floor, in the urinal. In all my years of using public restrooms, I have never seen guys that needed to wipe after they pee, until I started working here. It's truly disgusting.

This is really good! Walking around after hours in scrubs is disgusting. Scrubs are worn so that you don't contaminate your real clothes with pee, poop, snot, vomit, or other body fluids/contagious filth. Don't bring that s**t into the grocery store, to the bar, restaurants, etc!

This isnt being a jerk, this is campaigning. If you know how unionization works, you need half the employees to sign they want Union elections, that doesnt mean they all want to unionize, just they want elections. There then is a period where managment tried to convince people why they should not unionize and the union tries to convince people they should. Then comes a secret ballot vote and in the end we see which side one. This is just electioneering with one side giving their argument.

We all get free games to be there late at night but need to keep it a secret. Only much later we found out, the owner allowed it as part of a security plan getting more guys in the shop. We don't look like proper blokes so it's less likely they would be robbed he said. Sneaky old bugger.

Why Your Cashier Can't Just Take No For An Answer

Customers - remember, before getting huffy when cashiers get pushy about rewards programs and/or cards, they'd rather not. They are being forced to do so. Just answer politely and let them get on with the spiel they HAVE to do, per management, and, if you have a problem with it, take it up the line and leave them alone. They aren't hassling you of their own volition.

Yeah, I'd just stop shopping there if they keep badgering me like this. I wouldn't get snappy with the cashier, but I just wouldn't come back.

As a customer I usually say "I am not a rewards member and I am not interested in learning about it" so they don't have to finish the spiel. Also, as an employee this is really frustrating because most people are already enrolled if they're a frequent customer or they are not interested and there's nothing you can do about that.

I actually don’t see anything wrong with this. This is the definition of a self-organizing team. If you want days off, communicate with your teammates.

It floors me how little management cares if they're able to retain any good employees, or the fact that this kind of mismanagement will result in them only being able to hire people who can't work anywhere else because they steal or are addicts or just are horrible employees. Inevitably productivity drops and shrinkage goes through the roof. But none of it, of course, is the fault of incompetent management.

Fast food joints - ESPECIALLY McDonald's - are home for drug dealers everywhere. They can spend two bucks on food and sit there dealing all day. Staff is either paid off or threatened if they don't allow this to happen. ...///... I don't eat that crap, but I can't think of a better way to lose weight than to stay far, far away from all fast food joints.

yeah we do this. We grab wearing gloves, put in baggie and walk to the diaper pale by the back door. I don't want to spend my whole day in a room with a dirty diaper in the trash.

cool so go in, then get 3 packs, leave, then go in again. If they say you were just in there, have a friend or someone else get them for you, theres pretty easy ways to get around this

I am pissed off at Starbucks - for hygeine reasons (pre-covid) they will put your drink in their cup and then pour it into your reusable. Not a reusable cup, either. They toss it. What is the point of that? This happened every time at different stores. I asked about it. Forget bringing your own and trying to help save the earth.

Probably sanitary reasons. They can't trust that your have properly washed/sanitized your cup and don't want to on their workstations.

Ok speaking as someone who used to be in charge of the kitchen at a former job, I can say it gets really frustrating when people vandalize/break/steal things. We used to have real silverware/plates/cups and a dishwasher but people kept taking it or not cleaning up after themselves. It forced us to remove the dishwasher and switch to paper and plastic.

The medical apparatus company where I worked, put up signs saying "don't waste toner." My response? I printed a letter-sized sign with a giant, solid black rectangle saying, "you mean this?" For some strange reason, they left it up.
