Man Suspects That He Is The Only Person Living In His Apartment, Investigates And Shares Proof On TikTok
Do you remember the movie “I Am Legend”? Yes, the one in which the hero played by Will Smith, for a long time, had no one to slap in the face, and just wandered around the deserted New York. Creepy feeling, right? Now imagine something similar happening in real life.
That is, you move into a large apartment building, and then gradually begin to notice something strange. That there are no neighbors around you, cars in the parking garage look abandoned, and for several days, you do not meet a single living soul… Post-apocalyptic New York? No, Atlanta, our days!
The TikToker @atlcody, as you can guess from his nickname, is called Cody and he lives in Atlanta. The man recorded a series of videos, which in total scored more than 6M views. And, as usual in the good old creepy stories, it all started on the eve of Halloween…

The Original Poster lives in Atlanta, in an overcrowded apartment building… or not so overcrowded?

So, the Original Poster suspected that he was actually living alone in the apartment building, even though the official website indicated that the apartment building was almost full. What was the reason? It’s very simple – on Friday, the courier inserted Chinese menu leaflets into the door cracks – and on Sunday, walking along his floor, Cody suddenly noticed that all the leaflets remained in their places.

The leaflets remained in their places in the door cracks of many apartments, while several days passed
It’s really weird that for two days, absolutely no one exited or entered the apartments. The man thought about it and decided to conduct his own investigation. On the fifth day, it turned out that half of the menu leaflets remained in their places. But perhaps, the OP suggested, the apartment complex just removed them?

It should be clarified that, according to Cody himself, he lives in a nice part of the city, and the building itself is also good, especially considering the price. How, then, are so many apartments free? Or did many tenants just simultaneously go on an extended vacation?

The OP even thought about some conspiracy theories while investigating the leaflet mystery
Cody even supposed that the staff of the complex simply saw his video and deliberately took away some of the leaflets in order to create the illusion that people do live in the apartments. The blogger decided to go to the parking garage to see if there were cars there.

Some cars in the parking garage seemed to look really abandoned
There were more cars than apartments on the floor where the OP lives, and some cars didn’t look like they’d moved for a while. The TikToker decided to explore other floors and found out that there were plenty of empty spaces – especially considering how many people are expected to live in the entire building.

At the same time, the building’s official website claimed that only four apartments were free to rent
Cody decided to check how many apartments are officially available for rent, and went to the building’s official website. It turned out that only four apartments were free for rent – and there were many more leaflets with menus at the doors! And, of course, many more abandoned cars. Where did all these people go, then?

There were not so many windows lit when Cody walked around the building in the evening
Finally, towards evening, at eight pm, the man decided to go around the building and see how many windows were lit. It turned out that if you do not take into account the porch lights, then in fact, the windows in many apartments remained dark. A mystical story far from over…

People in the comments were mostly ironic and offered lots of various explanations
We must also say that the people in the comments to the video were not really mystified, stating that the fewer neighbors, the better. For example, one of the commenters noted that she would just be happy if there were no neighbors in the apartment above who were constantly “stoning” around.
Someone advised Cody to set off the fire alarm and see how many people run out of the building. And another person suggested that this is just an apartment for introverts. However, it is more likely, according to another commenter, that the complex management is simply claiming that it is almost full just to pretend it’s competitive and raise prices for the new tenants. Though… conspiracy theories look more thrilling and exciting.
We’re interested, what do you think about the explanation of this story? Are you inclined to the version about the administration tricks, or is there still some kind of a creepy mystery here? We will always welcome your comments.
Twist: his alternate personality killed them all over a parking dispute and his main personality doesn't remember it.
Lol love this comment
Former mental health specialist here. What does that say about that person?! Just kidding.😅 With MPD the main or dominant personality remembers everything that every personality does, so he'd have some kind of idea that something was going on. I've only worked with one true case of MPD because it's very rare.
Rare? I was under the impression it was like 1/3 people or something like that? Lol I guess that number seems quite a bit off now that I'm actually thinking on it
People think of schizophrenia as multiple personality disorder but it's not the same and actually they're going to be removing schizophrenia as a diagnosis because they think it's too broad of a diagnosis and it needs to be tapered down into smaller groups of personality disorders. But a true Multiple Personality Disorder is really very rare and very difficult to whittle down the personalities into fewer personalities and to get to the core personality is almost impossible and it takes many, many years of specialized therapy. It's very sad because it's the result of really extreme abuse! I was horrifically abused as a child and teen but nothing like some of my clients and the one with MPD I would just weep when the sessions were over because you can't lose it in front of them but the horrors he went through crushed my heart! I still cry about it and he died in my arms. He was one of the throw away people that doctors don't care about so they let him die but he was beautiful!
MPD is Multiple Personality Disorder fyi.
Exactly the sort of explanation my unique mind would've come up with.
What about all those cars at the parking lot? Where are the owners?
In the trunks sealed up to avoid smell.
Money laundering scam.
I was thinking the same.

Or rich foreigners US address or a safe house for their highly insured merchandise (they have a few in NY)
Loads of these in Canada. Real estate is some of the best ways to clean money, or so I'm told. Governments allow it, besides...who needs affordable housing anyway? Lol
Or overseas investors.
Good one.
I'm curious as to why this guy didn't just go knocking on the doors at 6 or 7pm, where the menus were still up after three/four days. Sure you might get just as many nonresponses as doing nothing, but if someone answered or at least spoke from inside, just say "Hey I'm your neighbor just wanted to say Hi." or even be honest w/ "Hey just wanted to make sure everything is okay, you've had a menu on your door for three days", yeah he might look a little crazy but it might answer some questions. Also 12 o'clock on a Wednesday, is that noon or midnight ? I'm guessing midnight since few cars at noon would be very expected.
I think the flyers in the doors says it all. No need for knocking.
Wellness check is a good reason to knock.
Agreed but you could knock on a door adjacent and ask them if they know their neighbour as you've noticed the menu in the door is still there. Rule that one out.
I would not answer the door if someone knocked on my door. If I didn't invite you then I'm no way answering the door.
Okay so what happens if maintenance discovers a problem with your plumbing and needs access to fix it, you're not answering the door? They're gonna come in one way or another.
I don't know about where you live but maintenance is supposed to call before they come where I live. Not just show up whenever.
You'd better if you're being served a warrant.
Maybe the poster stuck the flyers in the door and then took a new picture and removed em
These units might be rented by snowbirds. People who live in the north during summer and live in the south during winter months. I lived in southern Florida and that's what it was like there but I had to flee because my now ex husband kept trying to kill me and I'm not putting up with that and he was friends with the police and I called and they refused to respond and I had a recording and so did dispatch! It was one of two departments not accredited by the state, good ole boys.
Sorry about your ex. I went through something similar (I'm also in South Florida ironically, the men down here, smh, some of them are real pieces of work). I hope you're safe and doing better now. At least I was lucky enough to be in Miami-Dade and the police department while not great, is better than the old boys clubs sheriff's offices that still reign over many counties.
Thank you, I am. I moved back up north, over 1500 miles away, just to make sure I far enough away from him!
Man that's horrible! Ever seen any vids of Sheriff Judd on YouTube? I think he's in Polk county. I'm sure he'd appreciate you informing him of this, he's nationally known.
No I've never heard of him but I wasn't far from Polk county but I had the recording but my copy on my phone was lost because my phone was hacked but the dispatch operator kept a copy for me and was keeping one on file because she was appalled because they wouldn't respond . She didn't even know their department wasn't accredited and I sent copies of the texts saying he was coming home to kill me and my doctor has evidence he was overmediçating me and poisoning me and wouldn't allow him into his office. But I was recovering from terminal brain tumors, two heart attacks and 5 strokes and I had just had COVID-19 and I couldn't get into a shelter for abused women and I had nowhere to go and I'm totally disabled and we lived off the grid and I couldn't live there alone because I don't drive due to medical reasons so I was kind of out of luck but he isolated me and began abusing me and I slept with a loaded gun and after the first time he tried to kill me and knocked out several of my teeth
I made him sleep in different building, he wasn't allowed to sleep in the cabin where I slept or I told him I'd shoot him because I wasn't putting up with that. I grew up in that kind of abuse and I was done with it. He'd already taken everything I owned but I don't care about money or things I just wanted peace and happiness and I would never have them with him so I fled or would have killed me. While I was dying, he was seeing 8 different women and telling them all I was already dead but the joke was on him because I never die. I've died over 10 times but I'm still here and they keep saying it's impossible well it must not be cuz I'm still breathing! I just laugh at them and say, yeah okay.😅 I'm not normal but I never have been and I still have work to do. Besides no one but God and Jesus tells me what to do! 😂 My ex is a sociopath like my dad was.
Atlanta is still technically in the South, where checking on neighbors (even transplants) is what we do, is considered normal and just part of being a good person🤗 It is also not limited to the South; we just don't care what you think when we do it. We're all lumped together with FLORIDA MAN anyway...idjits.
Florida man is far overblown, it mostly has to do with Florida's transparency laws regarding arrests (a lot of places only publicize or release convictions, we release everything, arrest reports, mugshots, everything). So it's just low hanging fruit for news organizations. If they actually had to go off convictions, or even just things that went to trial, like they do a lot of places, the news would be a whole lot less interesting from Florida.
Keep telling yourself that...
Because obviously he put them there 5 minutes prior to filming this. God I can't believe how people can't sense an obviously fake tone in other's intonation/speech. Like... he's not even faking his sentences a bit.
