Making Omo Hada Miniature – Nias Traditional House

Omo Hada is traditional house in Nias Island, North Sumatra, Indonesia, that rarely to be built nowadays due to high cost, lack of good heavy timber and its space efficiency

we want to turn this shape….

…into this…

We start with the base that originally made of stone

Ehomo (timber foundation post) is carved.

Ehomo is bored for understructure beam

beam is sticked throught the posts

columns are erected with the beam

Upperstructure is built. First layer beam is chiseled

main room is shaped. mostly cultural ceremony is held in this space

Detail of floor beam

floor beams are placed

wall frame is erected…

…along with roof beam…

…until it’s almost finished.
