Magic Waters: How I Reimagined Tarot For The Modern People

I am a globe-travelling artist who chases coastlines around the world and turns my journeys into illustrations for a modern tarot-oracle deck Magic Waters. I also bring them to life by animating the illustrations, showing how the water literally moves through the cards.

Magic Waters is a modern fusion of Tarot and Oracle. I beautifully illustrated each card to evoke a particular aquatic location from around the world. Rather than hiding meanings in a thick companion book I designed this deck for an easy, intuitive use. Upright and reversed tarot meanings are printed directly on each card, so even the ones who are not into Tarot can easily use these cards for guidance, affirmations or divinations.

I created this deck for regular people, who are curious about tarot and the insights it can offer.

Magic Waters cards thoughtfully reinterpret the archetypal symbolism of traditional tarot; body language, gestures, clothing, settings, all reimagined through a contemporary, cosmopolitan lens.

The Moon card “MYSTERY” was painted on the island of Formentera, with Ibiza island silhouette, capturing the dreamy and enigmatic energy that defines The Moon.

Water at its heart, the deck combines spiritual insight with emotional fluidity, reminding us of the unseen currents in our lives.

The Empress card “CREATION” is a reimagined “The Birth of Venus” painting by Italian artist Sandro Botticelli.

The Roman Goddess is born from sea on a scallop shell. In Magic Waters deck she lounges on a shell-shaped float, taking a selfie. This card is a tribute to feminine power and also to water as the primal source of creation, the womb of the world.

The Lovers card “PASSION” draws its inspiration from a renowned romance film. Guess which one?

The love story takes place on a yacht in Monaco instead of freezing waters of Atlantic Ocean.

Strength card “COURAGE” is a tribute to divers and shark conservationists

A tribute to Cristina Zenato, Ocean Ramsey, Shark Whisperer, Andre Hartman, Valerie Taylor, Rob Stewart who swim with sharks in an effort to “demystify” and protect them.

Each card features clear, modern imagery with elements of magic, and the meaning is right there on the card.
