This Artist Carves Angels, Saints, And Other Religious Figures Out Of Wood (30 Pics)

It’s amazing how much life an artist can bring to a simple block of wood. Polish sculptor Michał Kulig, who shares his work under the name Pracownia Sztuki Własnej, creates incredibly detailed wooden statues that almost seem ready to move. From subtle facial expressions and realistic anatomy to flowing garments, intricate feathers, and individual strands of hair, his sculptures demonstrate remarkable attention to detail.

Much of Kulig’s work draws inspiration from religious themes, featuring angels, Jesus, saints, and other biblical figures. However, his creations also include more imaginative subjects, often combining traditional sculpting with unexpected details. What makes these pieces particularly fascinating is the emotion they convey. Some figures appear peaceful and contemplative, while others capture dramatic moments through their expressions, gestures, and poses.

We’ve gathered a selection of Kulig’s sculptures that showcase his ability to transform solid wood into remarkably lifelike figures. Scroll down to explore his work, and let us know which of these incredible creations impressed you the most!
