Who doesn't love a well-timed, fuzzy, heartwarming and wholesome post? They remind us that all is not lost in the world. That somewhere out there, between the misery and despair, some good still exists.
But sometimes, we search so hard for the positive that we think we’ve found it in feel-good pictures of smiling employees going above and beyond, or stories about someone finally paying off their student loan debt by working three jobs. For a split second, our icy hearts melt. Then our brains catch up, and we realize that these posts are just heaven on the surface but hell down below… Grit wrapped in a pastel bow.
There’s a special corner of the internet reserved for wolf-like content dressed in sheep's clothing. Facebook page, Dystopian late-stage capitalism horrors repackaged as heartwarming stories is exactly what the name suggests: a wall of reminders showcasing just how twisted society really is.
Bored Panda has put together a list of the best posts from the page to pinch you awake if you've lost touch with reality. May they serve as a warning that sometimes, the most dystopian thing isn't the future but rather the way we've learned to romanticize the struggle right now...

Well said! It's infuriating how rightwing a$$holes hate when tax dollars are spent feeding American citizens but don't mind the trillions of $ in handouts private companies receive in the form of subsidies, bailouts etc
But all those subsidies bailouts and such will trickle down and also create more jobs. /s

Then, throughout the year, when one of them is feeling down or had a bad day, you give them candy from the bowl. One of them may get more candy than they added to the bowl and some less, but all of them will always have the candy there when it will really improve their day
Trick or treat is not a job. Only someone that adds (He/him) to his name can be this stupid. Honestly I only visit this website to check the levels of stupidity in a certain side of American society

It is illegal in a lot of countries to decline sick days that are signed off by doctors.
I know a woman with breast cancer, her employer did a silent auction with the other employees to help fund her treatment because she was out of PTO. Read that again, the employer had the employees fund what they were lacking.
That's all nice and good, but what about the thousands and thousands of employers who don't. Insurance should NOT be tied to employment. It should be mandatory that employers allow workers time off for illness. If the worker can't return, there should be a minimum severance package of at least two weeks so their work comp and unemployment can kick in. If they can return, their job should be waiting. The federal government allows positions to be filled with an open end date with two weeks notice. They can even do a possible reduction to part time to allow the original employee to slowly enter the workforce according to his healing process.. Capitalism s***s.

Had to be off once for 3 months. Not one of my colleagues had to suffer for me. After 8 weeks ca 80% of my salary was paid by the health insurance. And you could have that, too, USA, if you got your bums up. It's not as if Germany had all that because our rich people were saints.
My organization used to let us "gift" sick days to colleagues. Then we found out it was technically illegal (at least in Illinois).
We had a sick day bank, which you joined by donating a single sick day, to draw on if your accumulate sick days ran out. We later got this extended to cover maternity leaves.
My employer very kindly did that for me when I had to retire for health reasons. It saved my life

Load More Replies...Usually in a situation like the this, it's a private equity firm. They buy up companies like nursing homes and hospitals, then liquidate the assets of those companies, while at the same time forcing the companies to take on a substantial amount of debt (actually the debt was the cost of purchasing the company). Once this is done, the company files for bankruptcy, and the private equity firm keeps all the profits. It's corporate piracy, but highly lucrative. And as nursing homes and rural hospitals already have stretched budgets, they are an easy target for these firms. It's also perfectly legal. It's just that the UK, EEA, and Australia have more regulations surrounding hostile takeovers, and how private equity firms can operate.

First of all the parents shouldn't have to do this. Second of all, if something like this can be done so easily and cheaply, why is capitalism via the medical suppliers and American insurance agencies charging so much that people can't afford this?

Except, that same day, my insurance DENIED my insulin. A few days later, after my doctor wrote a letter to the insurance company, I paid $77.17 for the insulin. Thankfully my readings have been at a good level, so I don't need to take insulin right now, but it was insane.
If you think the cost of healthcare is outrageous (and I agree), you should see the cost of durable medical supplies and equipment that patients NEED in order to live some semblance of a normal, average life, with their disabilities and/or medical conditions. I am personally familiar with the cost of ostomy supplies (when a patient has a colostomy to drain their bodily waste directly into a bag connected to an abdominal stoma). The companies that fill the orders/prescriptions for basic equipment needs bill insurance (or Heaven forbid, the consumer patient) well over $10,000.00 monthly without blinking an eye. And that is the DISPOSABLE, consumable items that are needed monthly. Doctors aren't being paid even close to as much to provide care for these patients who require the supplies. DISGUSTING!!

Not because people of color make up such a small percentage of those applying - in fact, they account for ~85% of applications - but because the process, as an extension of American society & communities, inherently does not want POC immigrating. That’s the cold hard truth. The capital of California has more undocumented Eastern Europeans than anything else, yet they don’t count for even a single percentage of ICE detainees. ICE indiscriminately targets people out in public based on the color of their skin or the type of last name. Furthermore, nobody leaves their home, their family, their loved ones & their community to flee to an unwelcoming country where they’re persecuted & constantly racially attacked, a****d and profiled because they want to steal jobs. They’re doing it for survival. I’d rather deal with being unwanted in USA than targeted by cartels, gangs & corrupt government.
Teachers now have a saying - you required us to learn how to defend our students in case of a shooter, so why are you shocked we’re employing those tactics against ICE? I’m no mathematician but wouldn’t that mean he was taxed roughly 75% of his winnings?
Winners can choose a lump sum payout which is roughly half the total jackpot. That dollar amount is then subject to all taxes. Itn this case, ilooks like it's about 50% of the amount won, which tells me he bought the ticket in a state with income taxes. This is about 50% higher than taxes on other billionaires.

I think it's totally fair to tax the winner a lot. He got loads of money without working for it, it's only fair to share part of it. (but I do think other millionaires need to be taxed a lot too, obviously) In the Netherlands, some lotteries in their ads say "Win a million, tax free", meaning that you actually win a lot more but after taxes you're left with a million. That sounds like a better system.
I am not a lottery winner expert but afaik in italy wins are taxed at 30%... State gives you money and then takes 30% back
Well, the state gives you nothing. The prizes comes strictly from other participants buying tickets. Then the state takes a hefty part, then from what's left pays the prizes, then taxes said prizes. Usually the net prizes amount to 25-30% of what the lottery sells the tickets for...

My grandmother was one such girl. Her mother was widowed, and had two daughters to support. My grandmother, the older girl, went to work in the woolen mills of Yorkshire at about 10. We pay out of our own pockets to ensure he gets hourly when he is capable of working.
This info might be useless to you, but...I worked as a paralegal for an attorney in Albuquerque doing VA claims. We had allsorts from guys who were comfortable in life, to guys who were homeless. VA had denied prior claims, when my boss got on them (veteran himself) he would pummel them with medical records and appeals, knew every person's phone number at the VA to harass, and kept on it like a pitbull. He got almost every single claim put through and raised the disability rating so the veterans got more money, then he'd make the VA backpay til when the claim was originally filed. One guy got over $100k check in the mail cus he'd been waiting YEARS. If you can find a lawyer that does this, it's worth chasing up. He didn't take money from clients, he waited til the case was settled then sent the bill to the VA to pay. Best of luck.

So they "bundle" a large number of cases and sell the bundle to debt collectors at a fraction of the cost of the debt. The debt collectors then squeeze every penny they can from the poor people who owe the money, often bankrupting them in the process. Charities have been set up who raise donations to buy the bundles from the debt collectors. They then get to send notices to all the people who owe that money telling them that their debt has been cleared. It totally s***s that we have to do this in the US but it is a wonderful way to help people.
do we need any more proof that hospitals and doctors overcharge us? they settled $3 million in outstanding bills for $15,000?
See @tameson's explanation above: the likely scenario is that the hospitals wrote off the debt and sold it to a debt collection company for pennies on the dollar in order to get SOMETHING back. I have told my family I insist on being cremated in a cardboard box without being embalmed, then scattered by them instead of having an expensive urn in some crematory crypt. Teachers? And not for their personal use? To buy classroom supplies? Who was this sadistic who came up with this idea?
Suburban New Yorker who worked as a teacher asst. here. Our school budget provides a fair amount of supplies (but not for things like tape or pencils) but it's not enough for a school with a 51% free & reduced lunch population (well, that was a few years ago.
