124 Times Designers Took Their Ideas To The Next Level When Creating These Awesome Bus Stops
Creativity. Uniqueness. Out-of-the-box thinking. These are not words we commonly associate with public transportation, much less the very utilitarian piece of infrastructure we call a bus stop. But this hasn’t stopped some architects and designers from deciding to put together something truly special for all the daily commuters that wait, rain or sun, night or day, for a bus to show up.
Internet users from all over the world share the signal and at times bizarre bus stops they have encountered, so if you are waiting for a bus, congratulations, otherwise, get comfortable and be sure to upvote your favorites.

Someone In Norway Has Furnished A Bus Stop, Nobody Knows Who
Honestly I dont see this as bashing. Its honest. Bus stops in major cities are gross. I'm from Phoenix Az. Most are full of homeless people and all this stuff would disappear the moment the person who put it up drove away.

This is in my home town, and it’s been a cozy bus stop for years! I guess some stuff occasionally vanishes but someone still looks after it. Surprisingly, that is a football stadium in the background 😅
This Bus Stop In Brazil, Before And After An Artist Added Their Touch
Wait. Are the arm rests on the sofa painted in or did the artist bought in some blocks and painted on them?
It’s painted in, but there is a part that sticks out because it’s part of the bench. No arm rests unfortunately 😪
Load More Replies...If some of these stops seemed luxurious, in the 18th and 19th centuries, when coaches and carriages were the main means of overland transportation, travelers would find inns and similar establishments along the route. Imagine a bus stop with beds, a restaurant, and other amenities.
An early example of this was the Angel in Islington, which was a multi-floor building, where people could eat, sleep and refresh themselves when entering or leaving London for one trip or another. Modern travel is fast enough to no longer require these sorts of establishments, but we can find their spiritual successors in the rest stops dotted along highways all over the world.
The Most Beautiful Bus Shelter In The South Hui - Shimmer Xuan Pavilion
Absolutely gorgeous. Sadly I can't imagine it lasting more than 48 hours in my city before it got vandalised (i.e. smashed to pieces).
I was just thinking the same thing for my city and if not purposefully vandalized somebody would crash into it with their car.

To Launch Its New Breakfast Sandwiches Caribou Coffee Turned Bus Shelters In Minneapolis Into Ovens - With Real Heat
Good for the winter! Summer, no one will be standing near that thing lol. Here’s a joke: two muffins were sitting in the oven. One muffin said “wow! It’s really hot in here!” The other one said “AHHHH A TALKING MUFFIN!!”
That’s so kind and thoughtful of the company (even if it was just to promote their products)
I live in Minneapolis, and we actually have these heaters in all bus shelters. Otherwise it's so miserable to wait for the bus in winter.
The heaters have motion (or some other kind of) detectors. The heat only turns on if someone's there.

These are welcome additions for anyone who has to regularly wait in the rain for transportation to arrive, but this has also perhaps been the cause for some fascination with “unique” bus stops. After all, if most are just brick, concrete, or glass boxes, anything more will draw a person’s attention.

Indeed, the average bus stop is so nondescript that many of us overlook them, despite interacting with them in one way or another constantly. Bus stops are generally where trash cans are placed, many will feature advertisements that may catch our eye even if we don’t pay attention to the location. In this way, they already serve some public utility. Similarly, one might use a stop to shelter from the rain, even if they aren’t actually taking a bus anywhere.

Just because they are commonplace and utilitarian, doesn’t mean they have to be bare. This list shows all the creativity that one might find when designing a stop but in some places, but in some places, certain luxuries are becoming standard. For example, in particularly hot countries, like India, Turkmenistan, Israel, and the UAE, bus stops may be enclosed and air-conditioned, so passengers don’t have to sit in blistering heat for extended periods.

Similarly, many areas have rules and regulations dictating specific standards that need to be met. Overall, this is a good thing, as public utilities should be safe and functional, but the utilitarian nature of public transportation often limits how creative one can get with it.

Dude. Built in body shaming. I’m not sure about this one, and it sure as hell wouldn’t motivate me to much more than perhaps vandalism of bus stop.

I hope enough people there find it offensive enough to redo the bus stop. Sensing maybe they lost a lot of current and prospective customers. it's an a*****e design imo. I understand the marketing strategy, but read the damn room. There are a lot of seriously bone headed advertising blunders, too many to list.
So what? Is it less mean spirited in metric terms? Even I, an American, know a kilo is roughly about 2 pounds. Post it in stones, I have no idea how to calculate that.

Fun fact: well maintained and pretty amenities are less likely to be vandalized than ugly and squalid amenities. Of course, some vandalism still occurs no matter how nice things are because people are AHs, but it's less than what's happening when cities neglect to build nice things and do reasonable upkeep. Also interesting to know, a regular upkeep and maintenance of nice things especially and all things in general is much lower than not doing maintenance and just repair the worst damage. I read that in a study done from a city, I don't remember which one it was, that was criticized for paying too much for artsy amenities like bus stops or park benches and they could prove that doing so was actually cheaper since it significantly reduced vandalism.
I believe that. We don’t have much vandalism where I live, and we’re pretty good about using tax money for the right things; people and upkeep of facilities and such things. Seems reasonable there’d be a connection.

I had to ride for about a year before and it would take 4 hours to get 20 minutes and 3 stopovers to get there not exaggerating. It must be really nice to live in places where most people ride the bus and they make beautiful and cool bus stops. Our bus stops don't even have benches. They have a sign that says "van-go" with no schedule on it and people just stand there with no cover from the elements and no seat.
Where I live in Maryland, all the busses have shelters and seats. Simple and functional.
Load More Replies...despite what ever innovative designs, or over the top marketing campaigns, the bus stops need to have proper seats and shelter from the elements for little old ladies, and good spacial design for public safety conserns. The top designs were cool,
Some were delightful and the others were frightful. some didn't have any benches and didn't offer much shelter. Others had cozy shelters with bookshelves, hand washing stations and tables and plenty of shelter. All were unique though.
Much as I warm to the idea of sofas and bookshelves, I would just miss bus after bus
I was happy to see a bus stop near me (that only the day before I was thinking needed shelter) was getting a shelter installed. It was a pity it was one of the ugly metal drum style ones rather than the nice glass sided ones that are common closer to the city, because I know the reason would be that they are at high risk of being vandalised.
