Aurora is a 32ft light sculpture created for the Little Italy District of San Diego California. The kinetic wind blow outer shell of Aurora is made of hundreds of Polycarbonate panels that are textured to mimic traditional rolled glass and are coated with holographic material called Dichroic. The result is a unique optical effect that changes the reflective color (Bronze> Gold> Green> White) and its transmissive color (Blue> Purple> Magenta> Amber) based on the viewers perspective and orientation of the Sun. On the inside of Aurora are nearly a thousand programmable LED pixels that move and dance in millions of color spectra that are filtered through the Dichroic panels. New LED patterns and features such as Live Music Visualization for Performances, Motion Sensing, and Projection Mapping are planned as Aurora returns each winter season through 2023.
