We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.

While it’s important to report problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that just needs to be found and promoted. This is especially true after the last few years we have had with COVID, political, and social unrest, and seemingly more negative headlines than we care to count.

That’s why I started The Happy Broadcast and, this year, it's why I am so proud to announce WHOLE, the free happiness app. WHOLE is a culmination of what we started 4 years ago with The Happy Broadcast, a positive place filled with activities aimed at improving your mental health and happiness. We partnered with science to identify activities that are known to boost happiness, and then built them into a daily tracker that suggests simple things you can do to boost your mood.

Consuming positive news is one known activity that can boost your outlook and mood. We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little. So, with that said, here are some of the top performing positive news illustrations from 2021.

You can find my previous articles about The Happy Broadcast on Bored Panda here (2020), here (coronavirus), and here (2019). And if you'd like to read about the good news in more detail and see the sources that I used, you can go to my website, here.

Not to be nit-picky; I love what you're doing. But you mean "haven," ("a place of safety, refuge and/or comfort") not "heaven" ("sky," "a place of spiritual bliss").

Well, I guess if you're a fish, and some human dropped a new bit of habitat into your nabe, that would seem like heaven.

Okay, we’ll overlook that the writer meant “haven” as I rather like thinking of a fish encountering a friend mid-sculpture and remarking, “Blanche! It’s been ages! Isn’t this just HEAVEN?”

2020 and 2021 feel very much the same. The challenges facing the human family right now are big and scary and there’s no guarantee we will overcome ALL of them. But, as millions of people have demonstrated in the past 24 months though, action is possible, better solutions are available and a better future can be built. Science has really helped us overcome a pandemic but it is the people that have shown their kindness and love for one another.

One at a time, we can all make a positive impact. While I don’t want to be cynical and stop believing that the world can get better, I’m also not naive to think that the world can change if I don’t contribute. That’s why the future will be better if, instead of getting overwhelmed, we celebrate and get inspired by the millions of people that have shown us that we can all have a positive impact.

There are certain entities in the USA, you know who you are, who believe there should be no regulation for anything. Let the companies dump their toxic waste in the rivers and oceans , because it cost money to dispose of it properly. Let the banks monitor themselves for ethics because we know they would never dream of doing anything unethical. Let the builders build and the oil companies conduct business without inspections....we know they would never dream of cutting corners. So until those entities get a clue and a conscience we are going to be struggling with all the man made disasters that are destroying our planet. But that's okay.... we can always go to Mars and start polluting over there. ...sigh...

I am also an online student, but I actually like having exams on Sundays because I also work full time. I am a biology major, so there is a lot of lab work to get done during the week to prepare for the exam. I've also never had a problem scheduling my exam for an earlier day if I reach out to my professor ahead of time.

I agree with banning after hours calls and texts, but emails should be OK as long as you're not required to reply to them until the next work day. Sometimes it's more convenient to send emails in the evening after the kids are in bed, especially if you're not expecting a reply until the next day.

Yes, I agree with that but in reality it does mean that the poor boss (ahem) is also still working hours when it should be downtime. Humans really do need downtime. If you don't get sufficient rest and recuperation you are often not at your best when you are at work. People make mistakes when they're not well rested. Even bosses. So, ultimately, people not working silly hours are often more productive. They think better, react better, plan better. That said I do sympathise with those who need to carry on with work of an evening. I do it myself sometimes and other times I just make a note to do it the next day in case I forget.

I’m always optimistic. Every year is better than the one before and even in the past couple of challenging years, there have been several silver linings. The new generations are becoming more and more aware that we need to advocate for a better future, and we need to do that fast. I see more and more kindness and more and more people acting selflessly to change what’s wrong and help whoever is in need.

Even small acts of kindness towards the environment will, in turn, benefit all and I see that happening. That’s why I’ve built The Happy Broadcast, to highlight the selfless actions of many amazing human beings.

2021 has been a great year filled with hard work, fun, kindness, pizza, and dogs. I always have to keep my mental health in check, but that’s why I love to use my art as a beacon of positivity for me and the people that are kind enough to follow my projects.

The biggest challenge (and reward) has been the launch of WHOLE. After three years of hard work on The Happy Broadcast, I met Keith, who is now my partner in this amazing company that wants to become the one-stop source for happiness. We created WHOLE, an umbrella brand that included The Happy Broadcast and other projects focused on mental health and happiness.

Ultimately people are not seeking to be “meditators,” “mood trackers,” or “journalers,” they want to be happier. WHOLE is a brand, community, and all-in-one mobile app focused on delivering all the “spokes” of mental health training within a single app that guides users towards the ultimate goal of increased happiness. The first big milestone was the launch of our WHOLE app, now available in the App Store and Google Play Store.

Our goal is very simple yet ambitious: To provide comprehensive solutions that increase the overall happiness of individuals while improving society as a WHOLE.

Isn't the problem why HIV can't be vaccinated against that it changes its surface features with every person? Not trying to contradict you, just add to it. Covid mutates pretty rapidly, but once a strain proves effective, it stays that way for a while (hence Omicron and the rest), but HIV does not.

This is WILDLY exaggerated to the point of being untrue. We have a new MRNA vaccine that is showing promising results in macaques. These test subjects were given MASSIVE doses on a weekly basis. Even among them only a small amount were fully resistant. Most simply proved to be more resistant than non inoculated specimens. It's an exciting development, but it's a far cry from 97% success.

People didn't want those as they look aesthetically displeasing, in difference to nice green plants, from what I remember about the decision (I'm a local). Anyway, green roofs are great as they provide a place to live for insects, birds and many other small critters, or gardening.

Antwerp already has this mandatory since 2014. the owner can choose between rainwatercollection on the roof or a greenroof. greenroofs are perfectly combinable with solarpanels, as greenroofs lower the surounding heat, the sp's become more effective in energy production.

It is a very huge thing. Here in Florida, reefs have suffered significant decline in recent years... sunscreen is only part of it. We still have lots of tourists using any old sunscreen though.

Thankfully the eco-friendly sunscreen has been easy to find and comparable in price to traditional sunscreen. I am a pale red-head and love the protection for myself and the ocean.

As a lifelong Hawaii resident, I can give you the deets on sunscreen. Not only does every drug store brand make a reef safe version, they make healthier skin safe versions, usually just called “Matte” or “Mineral” as to not suggest their other lines aren’t skin safe. I can also tell you what works best based on my houseguests & visitors, but I don’t know if I can pitch brands here. Whether you THINKSPORT, are into the HAWAIIAN TROPIC (matte) EEFFECT, or are a SUN BUM, you can find a healthier, skin safe, ocean safe, reef safe sun protector. And I HONESTly don’t know what BURT does for BEES, but avoid them both.

One of the best things I heard in 2021 involves an organization in Finland called Aktivistimummot, meaning “Activist grannies.” It’s a group pushing for environmental change that delivers a lot of information about climate change. Their aim is simple: to ensure their grandchildren have a safe and sustainable future.

Seeds don't do much good if they aren't planted at the right depth. Too close to the surface and animals eat them. Too deep and they can't sprout.

Sorry folks, but this is BAD news. VERY, VERY, VERY bad news for pandas. Giant pandas populations have NOT rebounded suddenly. The infinitely corrupt, evil Chinese government has just simply issued an edict that pandas don't need protection, and simply declared that they would no longer be protected under "endangered species" laws. The number of pandas born in the wild is devastatingly small, having grown only about 15%; and most of the improvement is merely that zoos have learned how to breed pandas more successfully.

Unfortunately conservation isn't the reason, otherwise there would be efforts to reintroduce them into the wild. They are just policital play balls of the Chinese government. same but different s**t show when it comes to tiger conservation in China, which is mainly done to harvest parts for micropenis medicine. I've been there (Harbin) but unfortunately was oblivious aslt the time...

Last year, I told Bored Panda about how rough it was in 2020, what helped me keep my sense of direction and not get lost during the pandemic, and what new artists should keep in mind. I think that 2020 was definitely a rough year, but I’ve never seen so many great stories of human kindness like then.

Despite all the challenges, it looks like humanity understood how deeply we depend on each other and how much our mental health is central to everyone's recovery and well-being. Sharing good news is a joyful experience for all and also an important part of daily conversations.

There is so much good in this world that just needs to be found and promoted. Never forget that the reason why we have positive news to share is that some amazing and brave individuals did something to solve an issue that worries us all. So, one at a time, we can all make a positive impact. It's our time to BE the positive news.

Right? Many groceriestores where I live usually puts atleast 50% off if its close to the expiring date. Many of those I know always check the best before date and choose the freshest no matter what, but I have been trying the last years to buy the stuff thats closest to it if I know I'm going to be eating it sooner than that.

In South Africa (hopefully in other countries too) some grocery stores mark down produce that's close to its BB date, by anything from 50%-90%. If it's really cutting it close, it's almost free. I like buying it, saves me a lot of money and I feel good knowing I'm using food that would have been wasted.

What you're referring to is a binary system, though. A product is either considered fresh, then it's normal price, or almost gone, then it's sale. My take on how this startup works is as follows (random example with random numbers): shop wants to sell a candy bar, best before date in 10 days, for $1. When it hits 7 days, it's discounted to $0.9, at five days $0.8, three days $0.7, one day $0.4. Whereas with the classic sale, it'd be $1 until one day left, then suddenly $0.4.

Did you know ( I bet you didn’t) that literally MILLIONS of bananas are wasted BEFORE they even reach the supermarket. The supermarkets have a specific standard of size, shape and colour that all the bananas must be, or they will be disposed of. It’s actually disgusting. I watched a documentary on it a while ago, the amount of bananas being thrown away and not used just because they have a small brown mark, or are too big for the markets is astronomical. There was a pile as big as a rubbish tip! There is so much they could have done instead of wasting them.

One of the things that helped me through the pandemic was working on The Happy Broadcast and interacting daily with my community. Sharing good news is a joyful experience for all and also an important part of daily conversations. Also, baking bread and pizza had a huge impact on my sanity during lockdown.

One of my favorite pizzas, besides the classic Italian Margherita, is pizza Bianca (which means no cheese and no sauce) topped, after being baked, with a cold mix of vegan feta, arugula, olive oil, salt, and fresh thyme. It’s very fresh and different from the usual pizza we eat at a restaurant, but I’m a creative person, so cooking is another avenue to express that.

We used to have a huge backyard garden that we covered in black plastic to keep out weeds until my husband began having health problems. Small maple trees began growing through the holes in the plastic where the garden plants had been planted. We took up the plastic, and now we have a maple grove that's about 1/10 of an acre!

No only will it save lives of children, it will liberate women. When infant mortality is high, women spend a much greater part of their child bearing years bearing children, and additionally more women die in child bearing as multiple pregnancies mean multiple dangers (child bearing is still one of the most dangerous things a woman can do). When children are more secure, average family size decrease as you can be reasonably assured that the two or three children you do bear will reach adulthood, thus freeing you from incessant breeding.

This is utter nonsense. Why do immigrants still give birth to more children in Sweden than the Swedes when we both have the same survivalrate here in Sweden? The number of children has to do with education and social status more than anything. I'm fairly certain that absense of condoms and pills in poor countries also would make a larger difference in the number of children than some master plan to keep your genes being carried on while fighting diseases.

Having a sense of purpose makes me feel less lost. I also try to not spend too much time on my phone scrolling through hundreds of posts and I turn my phone off before I go to bed. If I’m feeling blue, I put on some songs that make me want to play the air-guitar and the air-drums, like ‘Gloria’ by ‘The Lumineers.’

I've always loved doodling... especially things with cute faces because it's so relaxing, creative, and fun! I like the message more than the style, so I don’t spend a lot of time on an illustration. Most of my time is spent sketching all the ideas that float in my brain. My advice to young artists is not to focus on trends; focus on what you like to draw.

We really don't need to keep people in dangerous underground slavery conditions, and allowing a very small number of people to control the supply and get rich on the backs of the workers, just for a tiny gemstone that can be safely replicated in a lab.

Diamonds are not as rare as they make us believe. Artificial strangulation on the supply by a few companies like De Beers ensures that it will always be a fraction of the demand.

The only thing holding back lab grown diamonds (LGD) is that demand has exceeded supply. Consumers like getting much larger stones for way less money. The market isn’t huge yet (7 million carats of LGD vs. 52 million carats of mined diamonds last year) but it is expanding, even with de Beers trying to position LGD as “artificial” and “fake” jewelry for the “masses”, while their Lightbox-branded diamonds are the “real thing” for the upper “classes”. Interesting situation: https://www.forbes.com/sites/pamdanziger/2021/02/14/lab-grown-or-natural-diamonds-the-choice-is-getting-clearer-for-consumers-and-retailers/

Just a curious question. What are the workers supposed to do for income? They are in those mines because there is no other source of income. When that is taken away, what are their options? I mean, other than getting even poorer.

Actually the diamond surplus is very extensive and the mining could have been stopped over thirty is years ago and not a single consumer would have ever known. It is the pure greed of companies that keep the prices artificially high that makes it lucrative for the blood diamond trade. People have been dying by the millions for absolutely nothing but supporting genocide.

Not to be a doozy, because it's admirable that we are capable of change if we set our minds to not using cfc's, but sadly CO2 emissions need to get down (which is a lot harder) to not undo that success in the long run. Bad news stinks of course so, see we can do it, go humans!

From the article (yikes!!): "We show that emissions from eastern mainland China are 7.0 ± 3.0 (±1 standard deviation) gigagrams per year higher in 2014–2017 than in 2008–2012, and that the increase in emissions arises primarily around the northeastern provinces of Shandong and Hebei. This increase accounts for a substantial fraction (at least 40 to 60 per cent) of the global rise in CFC-11 emissions."

Can we just end circuses, and only have human circuses like Cirque Du Soleil? Zoo's I can appreciate for conservation, but I've never been comfortable having an animal caged or required to perform. My first trip to Seaworld at age 6 absolutely horrified me, a giant whale in a tiny tank, I cried the whole time there.

I was a kid and it was obvious even to me that those animals didn't want to be there

Be careful with that, though. People get really snotty when a zoo elephant here died a few years ago (she was like 48) so they demanded the remaining two elephants be transferred to an elephant sanctuary even though they’d lived at the zoo for like 35 years. One of them died in transit and the other one got severely bullied by the elephants in the new place. I’m all for not forcing elephants to perform in circuses, but I just always think of our poor local elephants who would’ve been better off staying in the zoo they were raised in.

Geez, this is practically Trader Joe's entire fruit and vegetables business model. What in the heck is the necessity of individually wrapping a flipping zucchini? Or throwing tomatoes on a polystyrene tray, and wrapping that in plastic?

Correction - the team didn't "earn" anything. Serbia's president decided to take 1 million EUR from the budget and to give it to the people who run after a ball. This was followed by a huge public pressure, because we have many kids suffering from SMA, and the treatment is insanely expensive. Instead of paying for those children's health, Mr. President is wasting the money in this way. After a few days, the footbal players decided to redirect the money to the kids.

Only 3 % of charitable donations go toward the environmental and animal protection causes, and if we could stop the earth destruction and animal suffering, there would NOT be human suffering, all caused by "people".

True. And how would we operate a steel manufacturing plant, for example, on wind or solar power? It all sounds good, but reality may complicate things. Nuclear is the only viable alternative to fossil fuels, and the people in the US don't want nuclear.

I wish! The Salish Sea which includes Puget Sound is a major shipping route. Sadly, last year the government approved the military training "incidental take" (the official number of these orcas that can be harmed or killed "incidentally") from what was 2 orcas now up to 51 of these Southern Residents by 2027. And there are only a little over 70 of them to begin with!!!! The Southern Residents only eat salmon and find them by echolocation. Navy activities, which include firing torpedoes, using sonar, detonating bombs and using underwater drones. Sonar and explosions can make it harder for whales and orcas to hear, and can interrupt their feeding, reproduction and migration. Underwater noise can also kill up to 50 percent of zooplankton, the basis of the marine food web.

Alot of local farmers here use their barn cats to control pests out in the fields. And large dogs to keep predators like coyotes out. A good non pesticide is 7 dust. It's a all natural cedar based spray for veggies and fruits. I use it on my garden every summer. Never got sick and neither do the small birds that sometimes steal my cherry tomatoes.

If you teach your children to react to animals and insects in a more positive way, and not like a fearful screaming and hysterical nutter. More people would grow up without phobias

I live in Chile. The rewriting of the Construction by elected people just sounds good but in reality it's just a bunch of (mostly) inappropriate people who have no knowledge how to do it. And some of them are just clowns faking their illness or demanding to rase their salaries without doing actual job.

I am chilean. This is a wonderful process for our country. We are putting an end to a Constitution that was approved unlawfully during the Dictatorship of Pinochet. Our country is changing, and the fact that women are finally being represented in politics as much as men, truly is a big deal. There's still a long way ahead of us, but it's a start.

However, the whole process now depends on the result of the election which will take place next week. The extreme right candidate came on top during the first round, and he looks like he's gonna cancel the new Constitution and send the country 40 years backward if he wins.

Heres a thing I have long though: wes hould rewrite all our constitutions once in a while. Stuff decided 200 years ago is often grossly irrelevant to the current society. It was written for a society 200 years ago, we wouldn't use 200 year old medicine, or science, or economics would we? So why the hell stick to 200 year old politics? You are litteraly preventing yourself from advancing forward because ... idk? age? Sunk cost fallacy, sometimes its easier just to redo it rather than try and fix a constitution thats inherently unfixable due to it being written by people who weren't sure about the whole slavery thing yet...

We still have so much to learn about these illnesses. After my diagnoses, the first medication I tried worked perfectly and has kept me healthy for decades. Meanwhile, my daughter with the same diagnoses, has to go on a continual cycle of different meds, because none of them are very effective and they all stop working after a while.

The biomarker in question is a really fussy one, designed to pick up nerve growth factor, and not even my shrink (for PTSD) is sure if this is gonna be a big deal or not, but we'll see.

Wow, in the years my daughter (and I) have suffered from depression, I've wished for exactly this *so* many times, it would be so much better to have a clear diagnosis and medication instead of years of trial and error! A lot of people don't realise how difficult it is.

In laymen's terms depression has a link certain hormones like endorphins and dopamine so in theory if those are out of balance then it could be picked up in the blood. I would presume it only works in certain cases where depression is genetic or because of biological reasons not through trauma

The whole cow is used. Any subpar hide gets strengthened and formed into bargain leathers and leatherettes, or cut and cured into rawhide for animal treats. Not one single scrap of cow is wasted.

So the thing about leather is that we currently cant make ANYTHING close to it in actual properties, only in looks. Lab grown diamonds are really no worse than real ones, leather on the other hand has a lot of unique properties. Its conforms to the wearer through heat and use, softens up and basically fits like a second skin, if its well taken care of it lasts basically forever, shoes can last for decades with good care. Hows that for reducing waste? Its an incredibly tough material with many hard wearing applications, theres a reason we still make saddles and belts from it, they go through a ton of strain. Also its worth remembering that a lot of leather is also a byproduct of waste. Animals slaughtered for meath is where it comes from. Imagine how much beef the western world consumes, every cow has a massive hide that is basically wasted unless you turn it into leather. Vegan leather might look alike and for some things its fine, but i dont think real leather is all that bad.

'Indigenous' must be used in a colonial context, and is most often a result of an American or Australasian perspective. Germans are indigenous to Germany and Han Chinese to China, yet they're industrialized nations with a very large carbon footprint. Not all developed, or industrialized, nations are colonial powers, however, so this is not very nuanced.

Become some so-called "environmentalists", who are actually just greedy necolonial green-washed capitalists, are now planning on kicking indigenous people out of their land, under the guise of preventing them from "damaging" the ecosystems where they had thrived for ages before exploitation and pollution came from abroad to ruin their traditional way of life.

Back when I was newly vegan, I would often share information like this, but people did NOT want to hear about it. It made them uncomfortable and challenged the comfort they had with their diets. I learned two things: 1. Don't be a preachy in-your-face vegan and 2. People will change their habits when they are physically or emotionally ready to do so, and not before. But yeah, this type of "farming" practice really tears me up inside.

It seems harsh to kill male chicks on the day of their birth, but they probably have one of the fastest and cleanest deaths in the animal industry, without the opportunity to suffer.

Chickens ovulate (lay eggs) even when no males are around. Only one male is needed to make many, many, many eggs fertile.

Wouldn't go that well in Germany either, despite our fastest trains (ICE) being able to keep up with the french TGV in terms of average speed. There was no investment in infrastructure and so they can only travel way slower on the majority of tracks

I'll make it more honest. France is a small country with a very good railway network and fast trains, so domestic flights are essentially pointless here. But here is the thing : train transport is (was...) a public service, and as such, it has been despised, decried and underfunded by neoliberal governments, until it became miserably expensive and inefficient, with daily technical failures, strikes and so on. So domestic flights (on private companies' offers) became cheaper and easier - it's been trendy for posh Parisians to go on vacation to Bordeaux by plane for example. And now the ecological absurdity of domestic flights is too blatant and train transport is about to be privatized, French government pretends to solve the problem they have consistently created themselves, because yes, they're very good when it comes to bragging about this kind of tricks.

I assume giving a plant-eating animal a bunch of processed egg and oil product causes it to literally poop its guts out due to the high fat and protein content, and creamy texture. Doubt it that the turtle had a pleasant experience.

Wasn't human urine a well-known source of ammonia even back in ancient rome? They even made a tax on it, since crafty traders were exploiting its wide availability and then sold it to farmers as fertilizer. Hardly news, just forgotten knowledge. P.S. Also plenty of homesteaders know this, and tell their kids to go pee on the compost pile ( since kids tend to not be on medication).

There has been a practice (can't remember the website ) where you can choose to be buried in a cloth sack with a tree seed in it. They put you in a fetal position in what resembles a cloth egg, bury you and the tree seed feeds of your remains. So at least you contribute to nature, and I guess your family members can come and see the tree/care/talk to it.

Unfortunately in 2021 alone, forested areas around the world, enough to cover all of Europe went up in flames, contributing to the CO2 levels considerably and diminishing the ability to scrub CO2 from the atmosphere greatly. Fires in 2022 are expected to be as expansive if not bigger than those in 2021.

Unfortunately I'm not sure good news from WWF studies can be trusted anymore. They're mostly under the control of big industries that fund them now. It might be the kind of good news that are just there to keep you asleep. Besides, a field of trees planted in order to just soak up CO2 will never replace the forest that was there before and was likely destroyed by the same people who claim to have planted new trees.

Only 2 things keeping me from electric is the cost and distance on a charge. I don't know about other countries but electric cars with an appreciable range in the US are much more expensive than an economy gas vehicle. The cars I could afford won't get me round trip from home to work and back and there is no place to charge near my work.

No, it is a political decision to remove or limit cars in the city centre : use bikes, public transport or walk. It is being done in many cities in France, where the centre is less and less accessible by car.

And it is a daily outrage. It has become impossible to circulate in Paris (even on foot), you can't park, there are garbage and rats, crackheads and pickpockets, the town council cuts trees and wisterias down because they think they are dead (plot twist : they were not, it was just winter so leafs were gone), they destroy monuments and replace them by ugly overpriced atrocities... The mayor is so incompetent and the city is so deep in debt (more than 7 billion) that the opposition wants the city put under guardianship by the préfet. She is a really, really, really bad mayor.

Microdosing of mushrooms, ketamine, and LSD have been proven to radically turn around things like anxiety, depression and PTSD. These need to become part of regular medical treatment for these conditions.

LSD has widely been studied in psyciatric medicine and has been proven to have no benifit over the substances allready in use. Ketamine is allready used for several purouses in medicine, psychiatry just being one of them.

There is a big push in the USA for this right now too. Detroit is considering decriminalizing any natural hallucinogens (mushrooms and peyote were specifically called out). Might be a small step, but it's a step in the right direction

This is something I'm deeply interested in. I've suffered from depression since childhood and medication has always had negative side effects on me and in the most recent instances, made it a lot worse. I've tried therapy but can no longer afford it. I'm really keen to try this, even if it isn't necessarily legal in my country. I want to live and not just fight for my survival every day.

I'm missing something- I thought fish farming was where fish were bred in captivity and either grown to maturity (thereby removing the need to draw fish from the ocean) or released into the wild (thereby at least replacing what is taken from the ocean)

Our apartment complex already does this. Anyone who gets a dog or cat has to bring it in for a DNA test. When they find poop laying around, a sample is sent out to see if it matches a resident's pet. If it does, the owner gets a stiff fine and has to pay for the DNA test that can run about $600.

If you can make medication for humans without testing on humans, or animals, then it's possible to make them for animals without that kind of testing as well. Nowadays laboratories can create artificial grown skin and intestines and cells to test on.

It's not ideal, but entire species have come from 2 breeding animals. There were a pair of finches stranded on an island and the parents ended up breeding with their own children. But it is a unique, thriving and healthy population now. As time goes on, dangerous genes decrease in frequency.

Of course they do. However, off the top of my head, when a whale dies it creates whole ecosystems in the sea, feeding other animals and vegetation, which in turn dies and gets eaten/processed. I guess it's better than having it in free form.

I recently saw a rhino encounter on some Discovery program. The keepers were introducing a male and female rhino through a gateway where they could see, smell, and interact with each other, but still remain safe. At their first encounter, the male seemed interested in interacting, but the female was aloof and ran away. For their next meeting, the male went and scooped up some hay with his horn and trotted back to the gate with a pile of hay on his face. The keepers said he was trying to disguise his horn so the female rhino wouldn't be afraid of him. I thought it was the most adorable thing ever!

Uhm...I'm pretty sure a lot of deforestation is not about using the wood as much as clearing land for farming. At least in Sweden the landowners that grow trees to harvest for wood or paper will of course replant new trees after harvest as their land would otherwise loose future value and revenue

What does this even mean? The populations were reduced to 250k, but I worked in an adult school, where people that were only 1/16th 1st Nations people were able to take advantage of subsidies for education and so on, so 10m can mean lots of 1/16th, 1/8th, 1/4th people who are claiming benefits. Many of the people I served, who were receiving subsidies, didn't even consider themselves Native Americans, except that it helped them to receive federal help. It also doesn't address the fact that a great many indigenous people live in abject poverty. I know this is meant to be a positive thing, but I need more information.

Obligatory reminder that while lifestyle changes such as these can be helpful, they do not work for everyone and medication is often necessary to manage mental health conditions, and that's ok.

Maybe their priority should be having more hospitals than just a uselessly vegan one. And a a proper port. And a government. And less inflation.

It might sound harsh, but yeah, you are right. A vegan diet is something you have to be able to afford. But I'm sure it*s a private hospital.

This makes me wonder, will they sell some of the CO2 to the soda companies? Is the CO2 in soda chemically produced or "recovered CO2"? If produced only for soda, why do nobody talk about that?

Ok, but what about people who can't afford to do that? It's a good tip but it's also important to remember that being poor is damaging to your physical and mental health and means you can't easily do things like this.

According to a website I found, there are 9 domains: 1. Living standards, 2. Psychological wellbeing, 3. Health, 4. Time Use, 5. Education, 6. Cultural diversity and resilience, 7. Good governance, 8. Community vitality, 9. Ecological diversity and resilience. They do a 1.5 hour personal interview with citizens (I couldn't find if they take a sample representation, which I'm assuming). Yeah, they need to add bear bile, rhino horn, shark fin, etc. to the list. The biggest cause of worldwide poaching is to supply to the Chinese markets for traditional "medicines".

Yes, I agree. Maybe other countries could spend money on constant advertising in Chinese newspapers announcing that traditional "medicines" don't work and are only bought by desperate men with small di*ks. I'm still working on what to announce to the women who buy them ...!

pound for pound crickets have more protein than beef and cultivating them for human consumption has much lower impact on the environment. Never tried them myself but I hear when done right have a decent flavor too

I don’t like when people say “representation matters” for real people doing real things. People were saying that when Meghan Markle married Prince Harry. It’s not like trying to be more inclusive with tv shows, they’re just real people who qualified for stuff.

Yes. A guy marries the woman he loves, and everyone turns crazy because she is black. But her skin color does not matter, she is a human being with many much more relevant characteristic than that.

I found some good foods and found cooking more interesting. half a year from that i decided that i will quit eating meat. it is not totally easy, but way easier then you think. Meat is good also of course, when good cook is doing it :D
