I Turned Indian Myths Into Kids’ Stories

When I was little, I loved listening to stories—especially the ones my grandmother would tell while she went about her daily chores. I’d sit on the floor, watching her cook, clean, or sweep, completely captivated by tales of clever animals, brave heroes, and wise goddesses. Those moments made me fall in love with storytelling and inspired a lifelong curiosity about our culture and heritage.

Years later, I became the author of the Mystic India for Kids series, creating books for children aged 0–12. My goal is simple: to spark curiosity, nurture courage, and help little readers feel connected to the rich stories of Indian mythology—all in a fun, age-appropriate way.

Some people ask why I chose children’s books or why I turned my love of myths into a series. Honestly, I just wanted to share the magic I felt as a child and give other little ones especially my own that same sense of wonder. Writing these stories is my way of honouring my grandmother’s gift, the lessons I learned from my parents, and the joy of seeing children’s eyes light up when they meet a character for the first time.

So, here is why I am taking my childhood love of stories and turning it into books for kids? Because if sharing these tales can bring a little magic to another child’s life, then it feels absolutely worth it.

Hey there, Pandas! My name is Diana (though some prefer to refer to me as Diane, Deanna, and even Liana sometimes), and I am a Community Post Moderator Lead for Bored Panda. As my position title states, I am one of the people (employed Pandas for bamboo) over here who work with the community side of things on this website to ensure all is well, and while at that, I also help various creators and artists get recognition for the incredible work they do by connecting them to a large worldwide audience. Other than that, outside of work, you can find me brewing a nice cup of coffee, making a pizza from scratch, or baking brownies. I also love traveling, concerts, and cats (heavy on that, because I am a cat mom).
