Have you ever looked at a Youtube short or a movie and thought to yourself, hey that’d make a pretty neat cartoon or webtoon animation. I did too!

So I tried to find tools online that would help me make an awesome animated video out of existing videos. This technique is called Rotoscoping, and has been used extensively in Hollywood projects, especially in movies like A Scanner Darkly, and more recently Apollo 10.5

While there are a few tools readily available, like Runway ML and Comixify, these basically produce masks and stylizations. In simpler terms, they do not exactly animate a video, they just provide you with the basic tools to be able to do so. Sadge.

So I just decided to spend some time building my own cartoonization algorithm. How much time you ask? A lot, over 1,000 hours to be precise. The results, however, seem to indicate that I spent them wisely. And the kicker, unlike other rotoscoping software which needs specialized hardware or runs on the cloud, this processes videos locally and quickly, right on your phone or pc.

Now that I had it, the question was what to do with it? I just animated some of my favourite Youtubers, and also some Youtube clips I liked. Interested? say no more! Just look below for the awesome videos.
