I spend hours and hours making rings from coins.

This has to be one of my best projects.

Coin Selection …22k Gold Coin

1870 Half Sovereign.

Next stage is to punch a hole in the center of the coin. This side of the coin will be on the inner side of the finished ring.

This side of the coin will be on the outer side of the ring.. We try to pick the best side of the coin with the most detail in view after the punch process.

This is a very important step. We have to heat up the coin (anneal it) to make the coin workable for forming into the ring shape. Annealing is done many times in the process.

The outer coin side after annealing..Note the 42 die stamp mark on the bottom of the coin.

After the first annealing , the coin is placed in a folding die. Which ever side of the coin is facing up , this will be the inside of the coin.

Over to the mandrel for some sizing and shaping. We use a raw hide mallet to gently tap the ring down the mandrel. This process could take up to 2-3 hours , depending on the ring size required.
