I Drew A Series Of Illustrations To Highlight Some Of The Awesome (And Underrepresented) Women In Science-Fiction
I am a 28 year old (female) artist and illustrator and a huge fan of science-fiction movies and literature alike. Judging by the associated stereotypes, the fanbase, the characters in the stories, sci-fi is largely viewed as a male-centred genre, and i often felt like women were underrepresented. They bring valuable skills to the table, such as intelligence, courage and empathy, but often are treated as ‘the chick of the team’, as if being female was their only attribute. “Icons of science-fiction” is a series of ink and marker illustrations done on paper with the mission to highlight some of the amazing, complex and strong female characters without whom the landscape of sci-fi just would not be the same.
