I Use Musical Instruments As Canvases For My Painted Creations

I take a violin or guitar from a sand-papered, worn-out or simply unable to produce sound and I turn it into a canvas for my thoughts and ideas. Starry skies, whales, waves or simply abstract, I use tester emulsion paint pots for the main colour and acrylics and watercolours for the finer details and imagery.
Each piece takes me roughly 2-3 days to complete, 1 tub of ice cream for support and an old pair of trousers to wipe the paintbrush on.
While the violin I created is virtually impossible to play, both classical guitars and their sounds have been unaltered in the process and with some good strings and tuning, are completely playable.

A lot of people are asking about the sound quality, of the violin, there's a lot of stuff on it so I'd imagine it would be affected a bit. The guitars, unless you're a professional (unlike me, I play for fun) you don't notice a difference in sound. I personally make these more for the visual art aspect of it as playing them in some cases (if I don't remove the strings and decorate the necks with objects) will be optional. I wonder if the paint makes the acoustics sound any different?
It shouldn't with a normal accoustic guitar, unless there is like a 0.5cm thick layer of it. A violin, probably, the sound resonance would be affected.
Nope! Sound doesn't get altered at all! :) Obviously the violin isn't playable as I removed the bridge, chin-rest and other bits and bobs, but if I took away the flowers and re-attached everything, it would sound the same.
These are amazing!! Hope you can transition into other instruments as well... :D

Atually, the first one was pre-owned and donated to me, the violin was the cheapest one on Ebay and the third guitar was an old damaged one from the attic. I also have another old, damaged violin, and a donated guitar and violin to be decorated. Not to mention I'm picking up a free guitar from Freecycle this week. :) It's just a case of charity shops, getting lucky, buying the cheapest available (if not for playing purposes) or doing commissions. I have my own personal violin that costs a lot and is an antique, so that one isn't being done up at all. So if you know where to look, you can do this for not too much, the tester pots of paint are only ÂŁ1 each.

The paint destroys the resonance of the soundboard of the guitar, so they're not really playable. Thats why sharpie'd acoustics are popular, cos of the tiny amount of ink covering the guitar.
Obviously there's going to be a minuscule sound difference, but it IS playable.
