Respecting rules and boundaries is important for any healthy relationship. Especially when it comes to moms and dads who have slightly or completely different parenting styles.

For instance, a woman with dog allergies was furious with her husband for going against their “No dog near the baby” rule. The woman took to the AITA subreddit to share how her husband and mother-in-law tried to make her baby girl play with a dog, despite the fact that the child didn’t seem okay with it. Keep scrolling to learn her husband’s hidden feelings after this incident.

    Symptoms of allergies

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, allergies are “among the country’s most common, but overlooked, diseases.” You might have an allergic reaction when your immune system flags a foreign substance as a potential threat to your body. When the body comes into contact with such allergens, it tries to fight them or goes into shock.

While having an allergic reaction, you might cough and sneeze excessively. It might also cause hives and rashes. Sometimes people also experience itchy eyes, a runny nose, or swelling. The extreme symptoms include low blood pressure, breathing trouble, asthma attacks, and anaphylactic shock.

Some people might be allergic to certain types of food. The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 has identified eight foods as major food allergens. They include milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.

Other allergens could be something you inhale into your lungs, like the windblown pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds. Some people are also sensitive to mold spores, dust mites, and cockroach feces. One of the most common allergy triggers is animal dander and saliva.

Dogster, an online magazine about dogs, points out that cat and dog allergies affect almost 10% to 20% of the world’s population. Almost 30% of Americans are allergic to cats and dogs and nearly 26% of European adults are sensitive to their presence. According to data from 2018, dog sensitization is estimated to be around 15.7% in Korea.

Doggos secrete proteins that eventually end up in their dead skin, saliva, and urine. If a sensitive person’s immune system touches these harmless proteins, they might have an abnormal reaction to them.

No one knows why exactly only some people develop allergies and others don’t. In fact, most of the time, people with allergies aren’t aware of what they are allergic to until they have a reaction. However, there could be a genetic link that makes certain people more susceptible. Therefore, kids born in families where a loved one already has allergies are at a greater chance of developing such a condition.

    Ways to deal with allergies

While there’s no cure for allergies, you can manage it with proper education and medical treatment. The best solution is to consult your doctor or an allergist if you experience persistent allergy symptoms. If a person is having a severe reaction, they should immediately contact a healthcare professional.

Depending on the specific allergen that impacts an individual and the severity of the allergic reaction, there are a few common treatments to cure the symptoms. If someone is having reactions like sneezing, itching, or runny nose, prescription medication called antihistamines can be helpful. What they do is block the effects of histamine, a chemical released by our bodies during an allergic reaction.

When an allergy sufferer has thick congestion, they can rinse their nasal passage with a saline solution. This process is called nasal irrigation and it helps remove allergens and mucus. Medical stores also have nasal sprays that help reduce the inflammation.

And remember, prevention is always better than cure, especially when it comes to allergies. The most ideal way to avoid a reaction is to continually avoid any allergen that triggers your allergy. But if you’re unclear about the cause, you can try to maintain a diary. It’s helpful when you track items that are causing you certain symptoms.

Once you identify the triggers, simply try to avoid them. However, it’s not always practical or possible to do so. For instance, you can’t always escape windblown pollen. Or, if you are allergic to your pet’s fur, you can contact your doctor for help. They can prepare an allergy management plan to manage your symptoms with medicine.

Dog owners can actively try to reduce allergens around their house. You can set up a dog-free zone. For instance, there can be a room in the house where your furry friend is not allowed. You can also try to remove items that may attract a lot of dander, like carpets or upholstered furniture. Installing high-efficiency air purifiers can also be helpful in some cases. You can also try to get a hypoallergenic dog breed.

When introducing a new pet to the family, people should be considerate about their partner’s needs. Navigating disagreements in relationships can be challenging but couples can try to practice communication in a healthy and constructive way. In order to strengthen your bond with your partner you need to have empathy, respect, and compromise in a relationship.

Someone who doesn't care about his partner's health and happiness, isn't going to care about a child's health and happiness, isn't going to be a good role model, is only going to do harm. Stop scrambling DNA with these AHs, demand better decisions from yourself for the sake of your kid.

Your marriage is over or should be. He told you he resented you for years; do you think that spells good times ahead? He's apparently a man who can hold a grudge for years and hide this from you, until he uses a grudge against you while you have had no idea how he felt so you had no way of working through things. Simly put: you can't trust him.

OP is an a*s for not wanting a realationship or rather, to not MOVE IN with someone who has an animal they are allergic to? And not wanting her child near them untill they are old enough for it to be safe? She didnt tell her partner to get rid of his dog, just that she wont move in. She's happy to live separately... which is fair because it's a straught up ALLERGY, which may not be fatal now; can get worse.

I skipped to the bottom looking for YTA, and there wasn't any. Normally the joke is "it's me or the dog" and "they" always pick the dog. There's a reason for that, it's fundamental in your personality and identity. If it meant so much to him he would never have moved in with her. Or was he so stupid to think she'll change her mind when she sees the baby and the dog together? Something is not quite right with the story, am I right in thinking it was 3 years ago he had the dog? How/why did she think it was a possiblity that her husband would put the baby and the dog together. She must have had an inkling to have the conversation "do not let the dog touch the baby". Afterall it was her house, so I presume it had never been in the house before. For the record I'm a cat person (and an animal lover) and I would never pick a relationship over a pet. Nor would I ever force a pet on someone who has expressed very clear boundaries because I respect that they have a choice too.

I assumed her warning about dogs near the baby was regarding MIL visiting or them visiting MIL. It doesn't have to be her worried even a little that he'd bring the corgi over to "visit" the baby when dog-owning MIL is a part of their lives.

NTA. Obviously the husband loooooooves his pooch more than his own wife and child. He was even willing to risk his wife's health and daughter's safety because of it. Of course, if the animal had attacked the baby, it would have deemed an "accident," "he didn't know what he was doing." Glad OP kicked that piece of c**p and MIL out of the house. I hope it stays that way, but OP should continue the motion. Change the locks, file for divorce, and get a restraining order against both the STBX and MIL, as well as anyone who supports them. They're the biggest danger to the baby, not the dog.

I'm sorry, but if you never have disagreements then you can't really know if your communication is great. One of you might just be letting the other get their way all the time (and likely, unconsciously building up resentment). Not fighting is one thing, but not disagreeing is a *bit* odd. And it's when you disagree that you get to see how good your communication skills really are.

A three-year-old girl was mauled to death by her grandfather's two Rottweilers. It is believed it was because they were jealous of her. The grandfather will have to live with that regret for the rest of his life. I doubt that OP'S STBX and family will have even a hint of remorse, if that happened to the baby.

YTA. Your husband, before getting married, randomly shows up with a dog, knowing you're allergic, paying way too much, and not bothering to consult you. That was a huge red flag. That's never going to be a one off thing. The ease in which he ditched the dog shows how incredibly impulsive he is, another red flag. The claim that this was the only incident is nonsense. If you couldn't see these red flags, you weren't seeing the others that likely were staring you in the face. And you had a child with him. Don't get me wrong, your reaction in kicking them out was 100% correct. But you put yourself in this situation and now you've tied yourself, and this child, to this idiot and his family.

My family had dogs (including a Staffordshire bull terrier) I grew up with and my next door neighbour bred yorkies and King Charles spaniels as show dogs I used to help him out as a kid - I can read their body language and am very comfortable around them. I'm gonna go ahead and regard the whole allergy part of the post as a giant red flag I can't otherwise comment on because I'm fortunate enough to know screw-all about animal allergies, but I know where I am with canine behaviour. If you're 'holding' a dog, with a bulging throat and 'whale eyes' that's 'just being vocal', you aren't holding it - you're restraining it. And I can't imagine in any universe that I'd ever be ok with a dog drawing blood from biting my FACE. I have played with puppies (when they still have needle-sharp baby teeth) where my hand has played the role of a toy (deliberately) and I do the same with my cat, but I would NEVER let it happen without 'permission', ONLY to my hand, and NEVER EVER if it was a family pet-

She thinks this is the only thing that was a problem in the relationship. But he says he resented having to give away the dog but never told her. What else was he not telling her? And what else may he do in secret? And people like that are the reason other people are afraid of dogs.

NTA but not exactly the brightest crayon in the box either. He clearly had a severe attachment to that dog which he would've definitely chose over you & your newborn baby any day. It didn't occur to you that instead he should've given the dog to a family unrelated to him & that may have help to cut ties.

By getting a pet they are allergic too and expecting them to still move in. Remember, they were together FIRST then he got the dog. Which is his right, but it's apso HER right to not be subjected to something she's allerguc too.

Maybe 4 voters who said, "On the internet, no one knows you're a dog, let alone a vicious one."

She thinks this is the only thing that was a problem in the relationship. But he says he resented having to give away the dog but never told her. What else was he not telling her? And what else may he do in secret? And people like that are the reason other people are afraid of dogs.

If the fact the man got rid of his dog for Op didn't serve as a wake up call to OP I don't know what is.

That txt message is probably enough to start divorce proceedings. He endangered the baby with that dog

So many people jump to suing or divorce right away. Like, calm your tits & take a step back.

He put the child in danger. That's not a time to calm your tits. That's the time to call the police

To the people who voted “It was okay because he missed his dog,” you’re such incredibly stupid, anancephalic a******s I can’t even believe you exist. You must hafta wear earbuds listening to a loop of “Inhale … exhale …” all your waking hours. 🤬

Resents her? Kick him out and split. This dog clearly isn't to be trusted around a kid

NTA but not exactly the brightest crayon in the box either. He clearly had a severe attachment to that dog which he would've definitely chose over you & your newborn baby any day. It didn't occur to you that instead he should've given the dog to a family unrelated to him & that may have help to cut ties.

"We agreed on no dogs around the baby at all"? Is she allergic as well or is simply mom's hatred for dogs?

Mom doesn't hate dogs - she's severely allergic. Can you not read?

I would never get together with someone who does not live my dogs, just a bad match. They are like children to us. If you respect your partner, why not trying those shots. So NTA

I was with you untill you told her to try the shots... I would never get together with someone who does not respect their partner. By getting a pet they are allergic too and expecting them to still move in. Remember, they were together FIRST then he got the dog. Which is his right, but it's apso HER right to not be subjected to something she's allerguc too.

It always cracks me up how an OP goes from full on nuclear "get out of my house" to... he's practically perfect in every way. 🙄 Zoom on, Zoomer.
