“I. Was. Gobsmacked.”: Man Divorces “Manipulative” Wife After Finding Out They’re Expecting A Girl, Says She Did It On Purpose
Every now and then, the internet spills stories worthy of a movie script. Now this intense story that will take you on an emotional ride was shared by a 27-year-old woman who goes by the name KittenDealinMama on Reddit.
The tale starts with the author and her husband, who’s one year older, trying for a baby, initially with no success. “When I did get pregnant, we were overjoyed,” the author wrote.
“He talked about wanting a son first so he could be the big strong leader for all his younger siblings and carry on the family name (a very big deal to him instilled by his parents). I expressed my desire to have a little girl I could dress up and match with,” KittenDealinMama recounted, adding that it became “a playful banter.”
Fast forward to the day when the couple finally found out the gender of the baby: it’s a girl! Initially, everything seemed well until the Redditor’s husband and mother-in-law had a long call which lasted so long that the author fell asleep. The next day, the soon-to-be dad literally disappeared and the world around the author has already begun collapsing.

Two days later, the author added this update on the whole situation
While the United States has no restrictions on knowing or choosing the sex of a baby, gender selection, a medical procedure in which parents are able to choose the sex of their unborn child, is currently illegal in many countries, including the US, because of numerous ethical concerns. Experts warn that it could lead to gender discrimination and that it is a dangerous form of eugenics.
However, there exists a common myth that lovemaking position can have a direct impact on the gender of a baby. But Jeffrey Steinberg, M.D., director of the gender selection program at the Fertility Institutes in Los Angeles, argues that this couldn’t be further from the truth.
“There are really no lovemaking positions that can influence the gender of your baby,” he states. He added that “there’s really not much you can do at home to choose your baby’s gender.”

But even without sex selection, more boys are born than girls. According to PRB, normally, for every 100 baby girls, somewhere between 102 and 107 boys are born. This slight imbalance is due to biological and other factors. In at least nine countries, the ratio of boy babies to girl babies is 110 or more. China is at the top of the list, with 118 boys born for every 100 girls, followed by Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Montenegro, Albania, Vietnam, India and Pakistan.

There are way too many people out there that don't seem to realize it's the sperm cell that determines the sex of your eventual kid...and that you can't choose which of the millions of sperm get to your egg.

The only difference was I told her "if its a girl, then you have a granddaughter. If its a boy, a grandson. It shouldn't matter which one is it. Ultimately you're the grandmother and that is your grandchild"

Wow. Just wow. First of all, old wives tales aren't enough to predict the sex of a baby. Secomd of all, you can't rip apart a newborn from their mother, no matter the excuse. What if she decided to breastfeed the baby? Third of all, the monster in law-I mean...mother in law is just batshit crazy. Aparently she needs to know the position. they used? What? Hopefully the mother amd daughter are doing good. 2023 is NOT the year we keep thia misogynistic shjt

She said she wanted a big family. Though medicine has improved, it is harder to bear children after 30 or so. If she started earlier, she would've had more fertile years to have her big family in. That said, a good new plan, focus on making your small family as happy and healthy as possible. When dating, be very picky. Maybe you'll get a big family a different way, or maybe it'll remain small. Either way it is good.

So glad she got away from that horrible family and she and her baby girl are safe and legally protected from them. But.. 27 is "late in the game" to have a baby?? I had my first at 37, which I think is "late in the game!" 27 seems... average??

When wanting to start a big family, my thought is they wanted it going before 35 as you're more likely to have illnesses pop up in small children conceived after the mother is 35(not guaranteed just a higher chance)

Well, the husbands (and MIL) a f*****g idiot for believing there is any way to manipulate the baby's gender (this isnt a game of the f*****g sims) and also because all the evidence that he should not have gotten custody of that child is right there for all to see in that reddit comment, because he couldn't keep his shithole shut. Glad to know that OP won the case. I hope OP can now raise her child in peace, and hopefully find someone to be with that isn't a complete psycho. (bullet dodged there. It may have taken 4+ years, but it's worth it to realise you're better off without that bs)

Words don't even DESCRIBE how mad I feel. OP's MIL is a literal psychopath! And I'm guessing that if they did all the same things, and it turned out to be a boy, OP wouldn't have been "manipulative"?! Good on BIL for distancing himself and his family from that family.

I don't understand any of this. I read it twice. The mil and husband don't want a girl but they want full custody? The mother got full custody because the husband didn't want a girl? There has to be more to this. Maybe someone is an addict or abusive.

It was more about that they thought the DIL was so manipulative, that she purposely did everything to insure it would be a girl just to spite the family. They believed that all their family were destined to have males as the first born. Sounds crazy, but this smacks of heavy cultural influences. MIL is actually the true manipulator and wanted custody as a FU to the DIL. MIL hated the DIL's "power" over her easily manipulated son before the pregnancy even happened.

This is the interpersonal relationships Miranda Right gone bad: if a person doesn't like you, anything you say can and will be used against you. The MIL clearly doesn't like the Op, so even innocuous things like calendar, jokes among couples and even position are ammunition against her.

It's beyond sad. This person who thought you could choose - for the love, you can't. And having been an unplanned person, I'm the light of my dad's life. Neither of my parents would have planned out the trajectory of their lives, and I was a major road block for both (who are pro-choice, which means choice, and I respect that as a person who may not have been born). This guy. Who thinks we as women or girls are less.
