Some cartoonists focus on one particular subject, while others find inspiration in just about anything. Dave Coverly, the artist behind Speed Bump, definitely belongs to the second group.
For more than 30 years, he’s been turning everyday situations, relationships, animals, technology, and all kinds of ridiculous scenarios into clever single-panel comics. First launched in 1994, Speed Bump has since appeared in hundreds of newspapers and websites, and his latest comics show that he still has plenty of unexpected ideas up his sleeve.
Animals, especially dogs, have always been a big part of Coverly’s work. He’s drawn thousands of them over the years, and they’re also the stars of his upcoming book, My Support Dog Ate My Comfort Food, which is scheduled for release on October 20.
