The sign on the gate is a warning about armed animal traps and the villagers moved because of the installation of the Inunaki Dam. There is a small monument to that effect at the village. Also, the type of story that gave rise to the name is very common in Japanese lore in which an animal is perceived as being annoying or aggressive and the person kills it only to find out later it was trying to protect him.
Can't you make this into a text & photo post? The TV is always on, I'm on a slow laptop, and I like reading the posts way more, than not seeing the video. I also think you'd reach/interest alot more people.
