12 Interesting Things That I Captured On The Rooftops Of Hong Kong

Maybe because we don't many high apartment buildings here (16-18 floors at most and even they are rarely found), I cringe just from the idea of looking down of anything higher than 10th floor. I suppose it's just me and my fear from hights. At one hand, I like looking at the amazing view from the top if I am secure enough behind a railing, but at the other, I can't look down and I am still feeling a bit scared knowing how high I am.

Oh and I think it might be the intimacy of the photos that's making people uncomfortable. That's what art does though. The rooftops of apartment buildings are public spaces....not private spaces just for legalities sake. This photographer was within his right I think. It just feels too intimate to some maybe.

It seems like if one is in a public space and they are aware they can be viewed by another person then the possibility of being photographed exists. You cannot see the faces of these people and therefore they remain anonymous. If the photographer had a telephoto lens...that would be another story. If the photographer sits and waits for a particular person to come out....that too might be another story. I think there are levels to the privacy issue but my personal feeling (FWIW) is that the line has not been crossed. When you look at a crowd of people in a newspaper do you feel the same way? A group assembled in a magazine? They don't necessarily know they're being photographed either. Do you only feel this way because of the nature of the photograph? If so then is it because of what is actually in the mind of the photographer? If so then that then becomes a matter of your own perceptions.....just a little stream of consciousness. I for one think they're really interesting.
