When This Woman Found A Dying Homeless Man With A Dog, He Told Her His Last Wish And It’s Heartbreaking

On a cold December day in Fresno, California, Jenine-Lacette DShazer noticed a sad homeless man with a white dog curled up in his arms. When the woman started talking with him, what she found out was heartbreaking…

His name is Clifford James Herbert. Once a farm worker and the owner of a mechanic’s shop, he lost his job in 2006 after becoming disabled due to complications from a heart surgery and tracheotomy. Soon he became homeless, and now he was dying of cancer with only few weeks to live.

However, the man was mostly concerned about Baby, his loyal dog, and pleaded DShazer to find her a loving forever home. Herbert says he rescued the doggie from an evil man who had been beating her with a flashlight. “She’s my whole world,” Herbert told the Fresno Bee. “She’s my best friend. She protects me.”

DShazer started a GoFundMe page to get Herbert and Baby off the street. Now the man is staying in a motel room, while Baby just got adopted and will even have a little girl for a friend. At least Herbert’s greatest wish – making sure Baby is going to be okay – has been fulfilled.

That was so ... human?.. of her to take a time just to notice and respond to this man's sadness. Such a compassionate person.

Thank you, for not walking past them like they didnt exist. Thank you for taking the time to help a fellow human in need. We could ALL take a lesson from this.

This is truly a great thing, but considering Herbert's live for the dog I am a little sad that he didn't get to see his Baby as much.

It's usually the ones with very little who cares the most for their pets. They need each other to survive. This includes low income, too.

Oh, so sad and touching. Bless Cliff for his kindness to Baby and I hope he gets to see her as much as possible for as long as he has. Wish there was something more that could be done.

Don't take this the wrong way people but forget the dog how is the homeless man doing? Is he still homeless? Has he passed...? Im more concerned about how things worked out for him then the dog. I love dogs... but people are more important!

I'm glad this man was acknowledged, and his canine pal got a nice place to live.

Crying...this is heartbreaking. I'm glad for the dog, but i hate how not enough is done to help the homeless and so many of us are one sickness away from being in their shoes.

Don't get me wrong, I love dogs but who helped the human being dying of cancer?

According to the article, the cancer has spread to his brain, and there is no treatment for it. There is a link to the go fund me that is keeping a roof over his head, so rather than judge for what couldn't be done, why not do something to help?
