Homeless Couple Get A Makeover And A Surprise Charity Wedding After Being Together For 24 Years
132Kviews
Wedding ceremonies serve several purposes, and they are often a cherished moment in a couple’s lives. A wedding ceremony is often utilized as a public display of marriage vows and the couple entering into the marital contract. For most couples, the focus of the wedding ceremony is on their commitment and love for each other. Aside from complying with the law, there are several reasons why a wedding is essential to the bride and the groom. In addition to the usual justifications of love and commitment, people of all walks of life have differing views on why a wedding is so essential to them.

Rosalyn Ferrer and Rommel Basco are a couple from the Philippines in their 50s

They have been together for over 24 years now, but unfortunately were subjected to a rough life on the streets of Pampanga province

The couple has 6 children, and for the last few years, they have been living in a small shack that was part of a wasteland

Given their life conditions, a wedding was simply something the couple could not afford or even prioritize at any point as they barely had enough money for food

The couple in their 50s usually makes money by collecting discarded plastic to sell as scrap, but it’s mainly just enough to cover the cost of food for that day

However, as of recently, the couple was noticed by a man named Richard Strandz who owned a hair salon near the place Rosalyn and Rommel lived

Upon hearing the couple’s story and finding out that the both of them couldn’t afford a wedding despite being together for over 20 years, the man found himself wanting to do something for them

Richard didn’t hesitate and reached out to a couple of his friends

He asked them if they could help him prepare a surprise wedding and a photo shoot for Rosalyn and Rommel

Upon finding out about the surprise wedding the couple was absolutely delighted

It didn’t take long to organize everything and the couple had an incredible makeover and a surprise charity wedding that included a photoshoot just a day before this year’s Valentine’s day. Of course, as of now, the marriage isn’t really official, but Richard and his friends who own a wedding supply business are willing to take a step further and help the couple again by paying for their official wedding at the church after their marriage paperwork will be processed. The official wedding is supposed to happen sometime later this year.
Here are some of the pictures from Rosalyn’s and Rommel’s surprise wedding photoshoot

If I were asked to finish the headline "Homeless Couple Finally Get To Have" with something heartwarming, my first 20 or so choices probably wouldn't be "wedding photography."
Yeah, a house would be nice. Clothes or food for the children. A job. Help with fixing their teeth. A car or van. Etc Also, why did they make her white? Awful makeup
The skin lightening is a thing in most Asian countries. Light skin = wealthier because you can stay inside, away from the sun. Modern Western media hasn't helped
maybe she wanted is this way because it's a ideal where she lives. why is everyone here so negative and assumes the couple had no say in what they where doing. for heavens sake, they are grown ups and surely know what they want too

she might have actually been white, just dirty from being homeless...
well, even poor people have their dreams...
That's a horrible thing to say. ALL people (even poor ones) have dreams. What many lack is hope. Perhaps this gave this family some.
hahah and you're 100% right dude
It's a lovely gesture, but a selfish and pointless one. The photographer just wanted to showcase his work and using them grabs more attention then using regular people (also, I doubt they are getting any royalties). On the other side, they would have benefited more by getting the money invested in the suits and everything else...they barely have a wall to hang these pictures. Last thing: hard working couples, with more than average salaries seriously contemplate before having a 2nd child out of fear of not being able to properly raise and educate them...6 kids when you were dirt poor even at the first one, equals vices, lack of self control and downright selfishness as you're condemning all to lack of education and poverty. This ain't the movies...
It's easy to judge when you're in a position to control more or less what happens in your life and also have the privilege of having been educated enough to not end up like them. They're the result of a country that doesn't care about its citizens and the lower class.
Perhaps it could be due to Catholic "missionaries" running around the world telling poor, uninformed people that they must "reproduce" and that condoms are evil. Hence, the AIDS epidemic in Africa, which left so many children orphaned.

Worked for 12 years in social services with (non-religious) NGOs trying to promote education and birth control among families exactly like this one. Kids get sent to school only so that parents gain state allowance (hence their big number), and it's begging at best, minor delinquency at worst for them in the rest of the time. Parents were extremely happy with us giving them tons of condoms and ND pills...oh, no no no, they weren't using them, they were trying to resell them along with everything else we were giving them (clothes, personal hygiene items, meds). Where was the money going? Booze and drugs of course..."helps getting through the day" and all kind of other cowardly excuses. Maybe 2 out of 10 parents like these struggled to push their kids past their condition while the rest even gave themselves as examples of what their children should strive to be.
i think this couple was happy for that day and know has beautiful memories... nothing lifechanging but nevertheless something special for them. not everything has to fulfill a purpose. sure, you could say, why didn't they pitch in for something useful for them? but maybe it was the best way to give the couple something to feel special. and they seem really happy. and your comment is just full of hatred and judgmeent towards the couples joices towards their family. it's easy to judge if you have burth control avaiable around the corner. they are in their 50s and managed to raise this kids as a homeless couple. not ideal but who are you in front of your screen in a first world country to judge these people?
Where is a couple like this supposed to gain access to birth control or any other family planning services? Are they supposed to never sleep with one another despite the fact it is clear they love one another and are faithful to one another? My Mom ditched me when I was 7 months old and had no other kids, she was successful, educated, and not short on money but couldn’t be bothered with the responsibility of raising a child. At least this couple raised their kids and were a great example of love and dedication. That’s more than many ‘hard working’ couples can boast of. @mihai, you’ll forgive me if I don’t base my ‘subjective opinions’ on what is clearly your subjective and deeply bitter view of the world. Your responses to this have been classist and frankly repetitive. If that’s all you know of families less fortunate then I feel sincerely sorry for you. Also when does the ‘pull out’ method actually work? Do we need to talk about pre-ejaculate and sex Ed here? That is every teenage boy’s excuse to get laid and blame the poor girl who ends up getting pregnant [and that’s in the more fortunate sect of society].
Mihai, are you really unaware that the pull out method results in plenty of unwanted unplanned pregnancies or are you just playing d**b for the sake of the argument? It's extremely foolish and ignorant for one to assume their personal experience is a general truth, don't you think?

Ever heard of "pull out"? Like really, I've been doing it for 20 years and it resulted in exactly one planned child, my daughter, which is 4 now. Your post is full of personal, subjective assumptions: they love each other, they are faithful to each other, they raised their kids well...bla bla bla. I've done social services with various NGOs for close to 12 years...you live in a fairy tale unfortunately
repeatedly brags about having worked with NGOs for 12 years; is still blissfully ignorant to the ins and outs of poverty and prefers arrogance towards the struggles of the poor. clear exhibit of how working with struggling individuals doesn't instil empathy or understanding in a person.
Those were my first thoughts too, but sometimes people just need something fun to make them feel more human and give them dignity. I volunteer at our local food bank, and every week, in addition to staples, we give out some kind of treat or junk food. At first this bugged me, but the director explained that having a treat or some junk food gives people dignity and tells that they deserve treats like anyone else, not only dried beans or canned corn or whatever. Everyone likes treats. It made a lot of sense to me
Wow.
No it's not the movies. It's real life. And this is what's happening.
what a difference to them both. To survive 20 years homeless with children is a feat on its own. And the bride is stunning
