80 DIY Masters Whose Creativity Is Second Only To Their Weirdness, As Shared By Netizens (New Pics)
While some people like to spend their Saturday mornings going for a long run or cycling around their city, others are at home diving into a long list of DIY projects that they’ve been compiling for months. You know, the usual: build a new desk, paint that old lamp shade, replace the heads on your daughter’s old dolls with crocodile skulls…
As it turns out, the sky is the limit when it comes to what people will DIY. But just because something can be created doesn’t necessarily mean that it should be. We took a trip to the DiWHY subreddit and gathered some of their most questionable posts below. Enjoy scrolling through, and be sure to upvote the ones that make you raise your eyebrows.

I Know A Guy Who Can Do It Cheaper
Nowadays, if you have enough money, you really don’t have to do anything yourself. You can pay other people to paint your house, install your countertops, build you a TV stand, and upholster your dining room chairs. But some people still choose to embark on DIY projects, simply for the love of the game.
When it comes to why DIY projects are so popular nowadays, The Good Store says crafting is a timeless tradition. Throughout most of human history, making things by hand has been a necessary and natural part of daily life. It’s in our nature to craft and create, and some people enjoy doing so because it provides us with a break from our fast-paced, screen-centered modern world.

There are practical and economic reasons why someone might want to DIY a project that they could have otherwise paid for. In some cases, it will be much cheaper to buy the tools and supplies and build something yourself than to purchase it from a store. What you save in money, you will make up for in time and effort. But some people find it worth it, and much more rewarding!
DIY projects also allow you to create exactly what you were envisioning. You get to choose the colors, the materials, and the exact design of whatever you’re making or installing. Sometimes, if you want something done perfectly, you have to just do it yourself!

As we can see from this list, there are no limits when it comes to what can be DIYed. But that doesn’t mean you should just jump straight into a DIY project willy-nilly. Bespoke Post notes that there are a few things to consider before embarking on any DIY journey.
First, do you actually want to do this? Most projects will inevitably end up more difficult, time-consuming, and expensive than anticipated. So you’ll want to make sure before you begin that you’ll be willing to push past any unexpected obstacles.

Fence Reinforcement... My Engineering Degree Hard At Work
I appreciate your effort and dedication to being a good neighbor. Since before our neighbors moved in (their house used to be abandoned, next to us) their fence has been crumbling, rotten, sometimes dropping boards into our yard. I always shove their nasty moldy boards back through the gaping fence holes. They have dogs that have gotten out a few times, and used to get into our yard and terrorize our hens. We always kept our hens safe, enclosed, in a secure coop & run, on our property. After our hens passed, I stopped trying to patch their fence. Oh, how MAD they were when their dogs got out and were running around, forcing the homebody wife I saw outside maybe twice a month, to actually leave their house and round them up, stomping around.... 😹....I was protecting my hens. Their dogs, their fence: their problem. *Edit: before anyone asks, they aren't in financial difficulties or anything, they have newer cars and the husband is head of a local successful seafood company... successful enough his wife gets to sit at home all day and look down her nose at us... :p... they're the kind of people who have 50 sq ft of d**d grass they still pay a whole lawn care service to mow once a week..even though it still looks like shredded hay °~°

Another important factor to consider before starting a DIY project is whether or not you have access to the right tools. You’ll want to have them all lined up before you begin to avoid hitting snags along the way. Plus, this will prevent you from having to make any unexpected purchases. The project won’t save you any money if you realize two weeks in that you have to buy a $200 piece of equipment.
Finally, make sure that you have what it takes to see the project through. From time and energy to resources, start with a solid plan, so you won’t have to abandon your creation.

It’s also a good idea to be aware of common DIY mistakes that people make before starting on your own project. And thankfully, LifeHacker has a list of some to look out for. When it comes to DIY projects around the house, you’ll want to ensure that you don’t over-tighten anything. This can backfire if it creates small cracks that will lead to the connection breaking over time.

Meanwhile, while you’re DIY-ing repairs or installations around your home, you’ll want to be sure that you don’t forget to shut off the power or water when necessary. This can be a very expensive (and even dangerous) mistake. And don’t forget to test your equipment before getting started. Especially if you’re working with power tools, you might only get one chance to get things just right. You’ll want to be sure that everything is perfect.

Now, if you’re feeling inspired by this list but you’re not sure what kind of DIY project to embark on, the DIY Playbook has some suggestions of simple projects anybody can make. If you love taking bubble baths, maybe you need a bathtub tray to hold a glass of wine and a book. Or maybe you want to create a gallery wall by hanging a bunch of different pieces of artwork in your living room. You can even paint the outdated tiles on the floor of your bathroom to give them a new life. These are all simple, beginner-friendly projects that can add some much-needed spice to your home.
