I'm for anything that does anything to p**s off conservative christians. You know how I know there's no god and if there was he's not loving? ...his fuking fan club. The world has gotten objectively better in every possible metric (life expectancy, infant mortality, etc) the farther we've thrown god out of our lives on his filthy ear. I yearn for a day when faith is treated as the mental disorder it is.

There are infinite fascinating things on this planet, and one of those things just happens to be: us! There are over 8 billion people on Earth who speak thousands of different languages and have millions of unique habits, physical features and experiences. So as mundane as it may seem to capture people on film, it can actually teach us a lot about ourselves and others around us to take photos of one another.

That’s something that the subreddit we’re featuring on this list understands. Noting on their homepage that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” this group is dedicated to sharing “high quality images of humans.”

“We are focused on looking at what humans are, more than what they do,” the community’s about section states. “To show you how humans exist. How people show their emotions and inner self.”

Just a little clarification: he didn't pass the information down on the line as he should have. He didn't trust the initial report and waited for another, shorter range system to also detect the incoming rockets thus risking his own country's armed forces to be obliterated before they could retaliate. The subsequent investigation found the long range satellite system indeed mistaken sunlight reflecting from clouds to rocket launches. Though he wasn't officially honored in any way for risking his own life to save humanity.

As far as the rules of this subreddit, there are only a few simple ones: share portraits only (faces must be visible), include as much context about the image as possible, and only submit static images. Aside from that, members are free to share as many stunning, fascinating and eye-catching photos of celebrities, their grandparents, their friends and people they meet while on vacation as they like.

While taking photos of people might seem simple, there’s no question that we love looking at one another (and ourselves), even on social media. According to a study from Georgia Tech University, photos with human faces are 38% more successful on Instagram than pictures without people. These photos are also one third more likely to attract comments.

As far as why we enjoy looking at photos of humans so much, Saeideh Bakhshi, the Georgia Tech College of Computing Ph.D. student who led the study, says that it’s something we start doing at birth. “Even as babies, people love to look at faces,” she explained. “Faces are powerful channels of non-verbal communication. We constantly monitor them for a variety of contexts, including attractiveness, emotions and identity.”

To learn more about what makes a portrait particularly captivating, we reached out to professional photographer Sergio Garcia, who was kind enough to share some of his thoughts with Bored Panda. "What makes a photo of a person really hit home for me is when it nails a raw moment that gets you to do two things: stop and think," the expert shared. "Lighting, environment, and action—or the lack of it—can make you stop. Then, the 'think' comes in. What's the story here? What happened 10 minutes after the shot? What was I up to when I captured it? The questions don't stop, and neither should they."

Sergio also pointed out that what makes a photo striking is subjective. "A grandma in the midwest snapping pics of her grandkids on her new iPhone would find them striking," he noted. "So, context is king. And no, you don't need fancy gear to capture something meaningful."

My school had an old (probably 70-80 years old) math teacher who actually ended up dying (naturally - probably a heart attack) in our school library itself. He was carried downstairs to a waiting ambulance by his own students. I happened to be walking up the stairs when I witnessed this incident and thought he was just sick. I didn’t learn from him but I heard from those who did that he was an amazing teacher who was exceptionally gifted at the subject and loved teaching (he was also a good jokester!). I attended his funeral with some of my friends who were his students and everyone, especially his family, was commenting how he ended up dying doing what he loved.

That's Mr. Kokonis!! He's at Alexandria City High School in Alexandria, VA (formerly known as TC Williams, the high school of Remember the Titans fame). He taught my mom when she was in high school, and then later, my sister had him for math too! I wasn't in his class, though. The kids all called him "Koko" in my day, My mom said in her day they called him "Mr. Chalkdust" because he was always putting his chalkdust-covered hands in his pockets and his pants would be covered in chalkdust as a result. He does indeed, keep teaching because he loves it: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/northern-virginia/virginia-high-school-celebrates-calculus-teachers-90th-birthday/3020744/

As for amateur photogs who want to take great pictures of their friends, Sergio suggests that they aim for "interesting" over "high quality."

"People remember photos that grip them, not necessarily those that are technically impeccable," he explained. "So, amateurs: craft a storyline around your portraits. Imagine taking a city dweller and photographing them as a farmer in times square. That'd turn heads. Or go subtle, shoot against a simple backdrop but direct your subject's expressions. Both are intriguing."

"For the tech-savvy, yeah, basics like composition and lens choice matter," Sergio added. "I enjoy my 85mm for close-ups and my 35mm for broader frames."

Police are people too. They do their job (at least most of the time), and sometimes they also have to do things that they don't agree with privately. These two police look like they actually agree with the protester, but are like "well, let's just do our job". They probably had a beer with the dude after their shift ;-)

I was saved from a river once, though the current was not quite as savage as the one in this pic. The weirdest thing was how calm I felt during the ordeal. I knew I might die, but I wasn't really scared, just trying to grab hold of anything I could. Always grateful to the guy who grabbed me.

We were also curious about some of Sergio's favorite photos that he's ever taken. "Early on, I shot a friend as if he'd just been in a fight—fake blood, white shirt, the works," the photographer shared. "One image still haunts me; it's how he threw his head back and how the 'blood' splattered on his teeth."

"Another gem was with an actor from Stranger Things. We riffed on different themes, and when he said he used to be in a band, it clicked," Sergio told Bored Panda. "I got shots of him miming guitar play and then evolving to this 'shocked-at-the-mirror' look. It's how he brought those emotions to life that still strikes a chord with me."

Sergio also left us with some wise words about taking photos of people: "Portrait photography isn’t just about nailing the technique. It's empathy, intuition, and finding gems in everyday life. So keep pushing those boundaries, keep shooting, and, most of all, keep connecting."

I want women to randomly pop men in the genitals as they walk around in the world - men would then begin to understand the forever need to be vigilant against assault and predators in public.

Before anyone else gets angry in the comments, this is very much sarcasm and just joking about how much it sucks being a woman. We don't actually advocate for violence against men as a solution, we just really want to be left alone by strange men, so we joke in the meanwhile.

Guys don't seem to understand that catcalling isn't just women being silly and annoyed, it's dead terrifying. Who knows if that person just likes making women uncomfortable or has worse intentions? It isn't a compliment to us, it's a show of power by men who feel no fear to be crude around women they know don't want their attention because they know we can't stop them. It makes us feel sexually objectified, unsafe, and powerless. Since there's no consequences for the people who do it, it also singles out the people who consider laws the only thing stopping them from being cruel to others. Being catcalled isn't some harmless compliment and if you think what I'm expressing in this comment is overdramatic or foreign to you, consider yourself lucky because I know for a fact that there are so many women that feel represented by this.

You mean the moment she felt disrespected, not to mention embarrassed, objectified & demeaned, by being hooted at like you’re being judged, outed and advertised on a non consensual sexual scale, while being stared at by a bunch of douche bags. FYI GIRLS: Decent guys don’t don’t do that s**t.

We don't all have professional photogs at our fingertips, though, so we enjoy taking photos of our own faces as well (as anyone with an Instagram can attest to). There are over 300 million pictures on the app that have been hashtagged “selfie,” and countless more being shared every single day. Faces are incredibly important to us, as we’re likely to notice them first and pay closer attention to them than any other part of the body.

Birds of prey are fascinating... Visited a centre in the south of England in July and a falcon swooped past the audience at an alarming speed with its wings tucked during a demonstration: it was thrilling. I also got to meet an actual little owl, a wee bird I have long admired.

It’s swimwear. Just with a lot more material and shaping than today’s dental floss. I predict an eventual backlash against showing so much skin, and swimwear going back to the classics like this. Same with evening wear and everything else. Showing too much skin gets boring after a while, because there’s no mystery to spur the imagination if it’s all out. Leave something to the imagination. THAT is when it gets sexy. In a relationship, it makes to sight of your skin exclusive to your partner, not out there for anyone and everyone to see. I like knowing I’m the only person (aside from a doctor, of course, but that’s clinical and as unsexy as it gets) who sees my husband’s entire body. For my eyes only. I like that exclusivity.

As far as I can tell.... The beach got its name after workers often found the sand littered with chicken bones. Because African-Americans were not allowed to patronize the city's restaurants, they had to bring their own food to the beach.

Edit: I don't know anything about complicated hairstyles, so I have no idea how long it would take to remove a weave like that or redo it, so I am not sure what the most practical option is if they want to wear their hair is these pretty braids for multiple days.

I've had 4 babies, but my third was the most emotional birth as the pregnancy was horrific as I bled almost the whole time, I was on edge the whole time she wouldn't make it here safely but she did - the relief, joy, exhaustion after that experience was intense. It was intense enough through my easier pregnancies but after nine months of intense worry, hospital stays, bed rest, frequent scans etc - I can't even explain it.

He is a member of the Chimbu tribe, one of around 60 Highland PNG tribes that attend various Sing-Sings (cultural celebrations) around PNG, including the Goroka Show and the celebrations at Mt Hagen. They dress like this as it was one of the ways they would intimidate their enemies. Maybe do some research before you start talking out of your a*s. chimbu-652...681656.jpg chimbu-652edf9681656.jpg

The first fax machine had recently been put in use in this time. So technically, for a very short window of time, Abraham Lincoln could have sent a fax to a samurai.

The Tokugawa shogunate also known as the Edo shogunate (江戸幕府, Edo bakufu), was the military government of Japan during the Edo period from 1603 to 1868. The Tokugawa period was marked by internal peace, political stability, and economic growth. Social order was officially frozen, and mobility between classes (warriors, farmers, artisans, and merchants) was forbidden. The samurai warrior class came to be a bureaucratic order in this time of lessened conflict. Google is your friend.

At least they will get the help the people in the foreground are concerned enough to help even if just words and water the world has gone bad that people are fleeing their own countries to feel safe and then sometimes like in UK at Stradey Park Wales they are treated like outcasts the world is for sharing its the Government's that are the problem

The governments are greedy and preferential, true, but it's still a resource allocation problem. Between climate change, regular natural disasters, and war, estimated put somewhere around 2 billion people out there as refugees by 2050. That's a quarter of the world's population to be relocated within two decades. Even top tier politicians and logisticians would be hard-pressed to deal that. So they start now with policies of "we can't help, go next door" and hope they just "disappear" along the way. Don't expect your government (or corporations) to help - we have to help each other.

I'm not overly proud of what our country is doing either, but (I know, I hate the but) ... when refugees, asylum-seekers, immigrants, and others are arriving by the hundreds or thousands daily - who knows what numbers to believe? And our fabulous government continues sending aid to every other country, natural disaster and war zone that needs it, meanwhile we have insane amounts of homelessness, poverty, hungry kids, uninsured millionaire gymnasts in the hospital on life support (all good just start a go fund me and everyone else can pay it). Meanwhile I work my a$$ off everyday to pay my bills, carry my insurance, pay for my 12 day hospital stay from 2 plus years ago cuz nobody started a collection for me! My back hurts, I work night shift. I don't get paid nearly enough, but I can keep on earning money so everyone else can move in. Sorry, not sorry

I think they use sleeping blocks/headrests. It's a block of wood with a scooped out curve where you rest your neck-that lifts your head off the sleeping mat or pillow. My grandmother did the same-she used to get a 'set' each week, where her hair was curled and set rigidly in place. She slept by folding her pillow into a wedge for her neck, and laid down so that her head was hanging over the side of the bed and she didn't flatten her curls.
