Recently I decided to write a song about stereotypes and poking fun at them. I don’t know many stereotypes so I decided it would be best to ask it here.

I'm from the United States. Everyone always seems to assume that we're all overweight, love guns and independence, stupid, don't know anything about other countries, rude, and rednecks (especially if you're from the south like me). It's super annoying because that's not accurate for a large portion of our population. We're just not seen like we are just because the people with the biggest voices fit the stereotypes. I'm really quite sick of it.

That we all poo on the streets and are tech support. I don’t even like computers and coding and the amount of times I was asked to fix something with a computer purely because “I am Indian” is infuriating.

Honestly, I want to be a doctor, regardless of my parents wishes. I’ve always wanted to be one lol

I am Indian and breakdown at the sight of a computer because I have no idea how to properly use one without at least something going wrong.

We Brits say sorry even when it’s not our fault. Sorry about that.

Ha! I'm Canadian and that's what we're characterised as ...until I realised how often I say it. It occurred to me that we tend to say sorry not as an apology but to express sympathy to ith another over small everyday misfortunes.

That we're all rich - no jokes about this one, even our social system is quite very good, there are lots of poor folks. But that never seems to come up, we make sure we look good to the rest of the world.

Oh thanks for the context. So does the rich part of Switzerland make up most of the image that reaches the rest of the world?

You're all either bankers, yodellers or dairy farmers with cows wearing large bells, right?

I’ve got 2 that are really annoying. 1: that animals are found roaming freely in cities, like sure if you live in a small community, like plettenberg bay, you might see a leopard or herd of elephants roaming but ONLY because theres a whole dang forest there, and the areas under protection. All animals are in zoos or parks. 2: that we speak ‘African’ African isn’t even a language, it’s the same as saying “oh you’re from America you must speak American” dude it doesn’t make sense, theres Zulu, Xhosa, Afrikaans, English etc but no one speaks African. (I’m from South Africa)

I've never said "eh" in my life and I've never heard anyone else here say it either. I'm on the west coast so it's possibly more commonly said in some areas.

So, slightly unrelated, I’m American, and I saw this post from tumblr on Pinterest in a screenshot once. (I don’t have any link to it, sorry) But it was someone asking someone if ALL AMERICANS HAD EAGLES. So yeah, another American stereotype. BUT, instead of saying ‘no, that’s crazy, we’re not that crazy’ they answered that YES, and they still remembered their eagle day. SO at LEAST five other Americans re-blogged the post with memories from their ‘eagle day’ were what I remember was you stand in the middle of an open field and wave around an America flag until your life-long eagle companion choose you. I would have LOVED to see that post irl and see at the confused non-Americans ( sorry, long)
