Hey Pandas, What Do You Think Is Going On With The War Between Russia And Ukraine? (Closed)
So the thing that's confusing me the most is the Russian incompetence. Is Putin holding back or are they demotivated or is the Russian military just not competent? In particular, Russians have a reputation for being great at cyberwar. Why are we seeing no attempts? The Ukrainian forces are using drones, restaurant reviews, AirBnB, GoFundMe, etc to get around censorship in Russia and to find the Russian troops (with drones). Why is Russia doing such a crude attack?
What do you think are the most likely outcomes? Escalation? Expansion beyond Ukraine to other states? Moldova? Poland? Baltic? Balkan? Retreat? Nukes? Let's hear your ideas.

Putin got too greedy and lied to his people, told them they were saving Ukraine. They believed that for a bit, trying to get Ukraine.
Ukrainians had countries helping them, and their leader went to fight, and motivated them. Citizens not in the war took whatever they had to try and help.
Russian citizens started hearing the world through restraunt reviews with info. Some started protesting Putin.
Putin couldn’t keep up with the times and kept failing, but he was fueled by greed, he kept going.
My current theory is that the early days of the war have gone so contrary to what Putin expected, that he wants/needs the UN/NATO to intervene. To achieve his stated aims will ruin Russia, months - years - of a war, followed by decades of a police action.
If the rest of the world intervenes, and stops the conflict, Putin can hold what he's gained, return to rebuilding the Russian economy - and military (new tyres?), and spend a few years banging the "big, evil west stopped us liberating Ukraine" drum.
He's like a drunk outside a bar, WANTING the door/security staff to hold him back from the fight he started, because he knows if the door/security staff don't stop him, he can't stop himself.
My early intel: only bio labs and similar testing labs were hit. Make no mistake: Russia is not incompetent. Much of the info in mainstream media is designed to make it seem so, because crushing dignity is a tactic. Especially effective in Vietnam, against Americans.
It began in February 2014 following the Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity, and initially focused on the status of Crimea and parts of the Donbas, internationally recognised as part of Ukraine. Intentionally concealing its involvement, Russia gave military backing to separatist militias in the Donbas from 2014 onwards
I think that's already been more than adequately answered by many of you here and many others, but it doesn't it make you seriously question the competence of our own governments? Consider the issue of the gas and oil from Russia - how is it they've allowed us to be dependent on such supplies from a country whose government is obviously hostile and not to be trusted? This is absurd - and further it prompts the question of competency again regarding global warming. Yes, now there is growing development of alternative energy sources, but we all know that most of our governments effectively ignored the problem for decades despite the overpowering evidence. These are the people who are supposed to make sensible decisions for our present and future security, but they have failed us atrociously. Had action been taken decades ago, we might not now be in such an absurd position; and had the detente of the late 1980s been responsibly followed up as it should have been, the present situation in Ukraine might have been avoided, or at least Putin would not have the excuse of the eastward expansion of NATO.
It's the same reason every unjust war is fought. It's the bourgeoisie versus the proletariat in a struggle for freedom with the petty bourgeoisie caught in the middle. The conclusion is inevitable, though. The people always prevail eventually. Workers of the world, unite!
I mean it's like the guy thought, let me just do what they did in WW2 and drive some tanks over the border, that will work AMIRITE? and er, no. Of course not. This is the 21st century. The West will just attack you financially and block bitcoin etc etc. How did he think this was going to pan out?
I mean I get that he thinks Ukraine is part of Russia because of the Kievan Rus, but... I mean... that was 1000 years ago.
