On the island of Rota in the Mariana Islands, I and a friend schemed to raise an Japanese naval anchor from a sunken Japanese ship (Shoun Maru) from WW2. I made a lift bag from a queen size water bed bladder and some heavy duty fishing net. I calculated that the lift bag had a lift capacity of about 3500 lbs. We used extra scuba tanks for filling the bag. With great expectation, we filled it and waited for the anchor to rise and bob to the surface. Well, it turns out that the anchor weighed 8 tons. In flailing around the anchor, I inadvertently fanned the silt off the shank which revealed the weight. Dang… However it was just one of the many adventures I had in the four years I lived there. One of the best times of my life! Me-Randy-r...b71a28.jpg Me-Randy-rota-65e8892b71a28.jpg
