I never gave to Red Cross. My father was in the Korean war and needed socks during the harsh winter there. The socks women knitted for the soldiers, the coffee, the donuts, all had to be bought by the soldiers. The red cross never gave those things to the soldiers, they sold them. I thought that was the biggest travesty!

Try TwoCentsOfHope. Don't know how they're doing today but several years ago, my dad was part of a chapter in his state. They did 0 marketing and merely placed coin collection boxes at local stores and collected monthly and used the money to build schools in India and other countries. At one point, they also built a few girls bathrooms I believe because they realized many girls from poor areas were dropping out of school because they didn't have bathrooms. The point of spending NO money on marketing is so that they spend ALL of it on charity rather than 70% on b******t like SO many organizations do!

A friend of mine and her family lost their home to a fire. The American Red Cross provided them with some new clothing for a night, and a $1500 Wal-Mart gift card. After 6 months she was sent a bill from Red Cross totalling $2000, to cover the emergency clothing for 4 and the gift card. Keep in mind the gift card was donated from Wal-Mart...

What if they're acting to look homeless so that they can get easy money? There are people who do that, you know.

Sally Brite - Please don't ever give people who approach you on the streets cash. It's okay to give food, clothing, hotel vouchers, and bus cards but when you give cash you might be supporting an addiction, or giving to a scam artist who is on the streets because preying off the charity of others pays better than most non-skilled work, tax free. While helping them out doesn't seem that bad, it's a massive determent to the local community, health and human services, and programs for the truly needy.

That's pretty dumb. Instead, do your research on the charities you want to support and make sure they use the money well. It's great to adopt an animal, but that is one animal. A small donation to your local shelter can help many animals. You can do both.

No, the Humane Society is being hit with Big Ag PR firms that want to kill the charity because they fight for legislative reform. Look into where the information comes from that says the Humane Society is bad. It's all from 2 PR firms that have made up fake organizations to smear the HS. It was fake news before fake news became a thing. Again, do some research, look at who bankrolls these things. HS is instrumental in helping rescue dogs from puppy mills and abuse situations. They do good.

They do indeed. There are several species alive today that are only around because of zoo breeding programs. There are also some animals who simply could not survive in the wild, and they are also only alive because of zoos. Any zoo that crams animals in tiny cages and hurt animals should be hated, sure. But there are many good zoos out there that deserve support.

Rhinna Micciche depends in the zoo. If they work with other zoos in one of the big international programs it really isn't about the money. They are not making a ton of cash and living in luxary houses. They help educate the public on the wild and help research about the animals. They also help develop areas for the wild animals to live in. A good zoo is a complex thing. Animals will have the opportunity to get away from the public in the good zoos.

the last few times I went to a zoo it made me cry... why should people make money off animals being in the zoo? Oh look, there is the last animals of that species, sat in a cage, like a painting on a wall for human pleasure. If an animal can't live in its natural habitat what's the point in it being alive? To be ogled by humans? If you had the choice of staying alive and being a living spectacle for the rest of your life and living one week in your home what would you choose? Don't agree with PETAs violence but the zoo is not a nice place for an animal.

Do you know what nature is like, I worked with actual rescue organisations, helped raise and release animals into the wild when their parents were killed. Nature isn't kind, it's not fun, and it's not a walk in the park. It's being injured and eaten alive for three days by ants while starving because no predator found you to end your life quickly. It's getting sick and thrown out of the nest because you're possibly a danger to the other chicks. It's not nice, it isn't free it's constant fear of being eaten and finding your next meal. Disney isn't what nature is like deal with it.
