Groom Rejects Bride’s ‘Weird Family Tradition’ Of Spending The Night With Her Mom, Drama Ensues
There’s a saying, ‘When you marry someone, you also marry their family.’ And their wedding traditions — no matter how utterly bizarre they are.
Although the Reddit user by the name of ‘throwratonypan‘ didn’t have to chase and butcher a chicken in order to prove his love in front of fiancée’s family, like they do in Mongolia; his soon-to-be wife expected him to wine and dine with his future mother-in-law as part of their unusual family tradition. And if that sounds a tad sinister, well, you’re not the only one.

Love is universal, yes — but marriage traditions are not

Sounds like a troll post on Reddit to get attention.
Definitely, these Reddit AITA posts picked for BP articles are just too much to be true. Also the consistent way these are written makes me suspect it's always the same person inventing the stories.
No I've actually heard this before. I'm not sure who or what culture does this, I think it may be South Pacific people. There definitely is a culture that does this.
I see this type of stuff on Reddit and Quora and many sites like it. Nope does sound like it's anything real. I've never heard of any culture where this was a thing. I have read about some past cultures where men "blessed marriages through intercourse with a ride, but not a single one where this role was reversed. And what culture has a tradition that would include a hotel stay? Now I actually do think a "date night" mother in law tradition could be kinda fun (without the hotel or sexual conotations). Getting one on one time with the mother in law and groom that is a positive experience ahead of a marriage could be a great idea considering how many mother in laws get off on the wrong foot with the new groom.
The hotel is a modern addition. They used to just have sex with the entire village watching as the MIL and SIL did it.
Yeah most aita posts are usually pretty sus but this one takes the cake for obviously made-up.
Almost certainly. Still it's entertaining so I don't mind.
I agree, all these "Was I wrong....do this that" is for attention. It's also unfair since the other party does not get a chance to tel his/her side of the story.
Yeah, I'm not buying for a second that this is a "cultural" tradition. Hope about naming the culture? He didn't because this story would be busted as BS!!!
Reddit troll is examining once again how gullible people are. BP falls for it. Next on BP: My Fiancée Only Wants To Have Sex With Other Men. AITA For Saying No?
Oh you should post that. You'll definitely get a million views... Which is apparently something you want for reasons.
In my family it is tradition for the soon-to-be groom to take the parents of the bride-to-be for an outing of some kind without the bride. It is usually out to dinner or he invites them over and cooks for them (my cousin's husband invited her parents over and cooked dinner and they hung out for a few hours.) This is a "get-to-know-you-on-your-own" thing and nothing that would include purchasing clothes or a hotel room. I mean, I just don't believe this happened.
