“Go West, Mary” By Troy Murrah
This 36″ x 36″ piece was first in a series of artworks I made after my mom passed away as she always wanted me to do something quilt-related with my art (she was a quilter). I cut apart old kitchen countertops & cabinetry that had been thrown out, wood from a 1930s garage wall, and leftover exterior siding. I pieced my cut shapes together to form a variation of the lone star quilt block pattern & laser engraved the “negative space” with a pattern of Mary Poppins’, early settlers, grapevines… and several “hidden” Batmans (look very closely!).
