17-Year-Old Is Shook To Receive So Many Hateful Comments After Her Boyfriend’s Mom Posted Their Homecoming Pics On Facebook

17-year-old Grace Brumfield, a junior at a high school in Alabama, recently went to homecoming with her boyfriend Zach, with whom she had a photoshoot in a field of sunflowers before the dance. Grace looked gorgeous in her Princess Diana-inspired dress and she said “I loved how my pics for homecoming came out,” in her TikTok video.

But shockingly, Grace’s look has become a target of very harsh commentary from some adults online. It turns out that her boyfriend’s mom posted the photos on an open Facebook group called “Sunflowers and Daisies,” and this is where, unknowingly, Grace received a lot of hate. From adult women calling her ‘trashy’ to even stating that by wearing that dress the teen was ‘asking for it,’ it’s hard to imagine what was going through Grace’s mind while reading it.

So the teen shared the video about her homecoming dress and all the nasty comments she received on TikTok, amassing over 10 million views. And more importantly, sparking a much-needed conversation on boomer hate on the internet, which often remains invisible.

Imagine feeling that homecoming was a huge success and you had the time of your life dancing with your boyfriend, only to read all those harsh comments about yourself when you get back. It must be absolutely heart-wrenching!

Grace recounted: “Homecoming was AMAZING! I had so many compliments on my dress, and it was our first homecoming since COVID, so they made it really nice and very special for all of the students! I made so many great memories, and the environment was just out-of-this-world amazing,” she told the press.

Although Grace felt confident in this gorgeous dress, she was shocked to find out adult women in a Facebook group were harshly shaming her dress in the pictures

Moreover, she and her boyfriend Zach had taken some beautiful pictures in a sunflower field that was planted in memorial for their fellow peer Dalton Defilipi. Dalton passed away last year, so the place has a special meaning for the couple.

However, Grace’s high spirits were soon smashed after finding all the nasty comments from adults surfing on a Facebook group. “My boyfriend’s mom started telling me how the pictures had somewhere around 32,000 likes. She was talking about all the nice comments, and then she said, ‘And of course, there are the negative ones as well.’ My heart kind of immediately sank because I felt so confident about my appearance and attire that night, and I didn’t want that confidence I had to be in a way stolen from me. I have been picked on my entire life—my freshman year, I moved schools because it got so bad.”

What shocked Grace in particular was that most of these online bullies were women. More so, “they were all mothers and grandmothers. The only question I had was, Why? I didn’t see anything wrong with my photos, so why were there negative comments?”

One comment struck Grace in particular after a lady named Rhonda said “that based on the way I was dressed, I was asking to be raped.” The teen commented: “As a victim of sexual assault, it just made my blood boil because clothes are not the reasons that men and women are assaulted.”

After sharing the ordeal on her TikTok, Grace has fortunately received a lot of support from people calling out ‘boomer hate.’ Adult boomers sharing hateful and toxic comments is an often overlooked problem since much of the blame goes to the younger generation that is inseparable from their online presence.

Many people found this whole situation an opportunity to call out boomer hate online and this is what they had to comment

I sincerely hope this beautiful young woman gave no fu*ks to what those cows posted. It's a little black dress and she looks lovely. And to Rhonda: how dare you say that's the reason girls get raped: may you burn in hell you hypocrite.

No one is "asking for it", i.e. being victim of a crime. I wonder how people can be so slow-brained. Would they assume that someone who does not cover his home in barbed wirse is asking for it to be broken into? Or someone leaving the house without wielding a machine gun is asking to be robbed? Victims are never a fault for being victims because they were no victims without criminals.

Maybe a second aspect to being slow-brained: in this case the absurd idea is that women showing "too much flesh" would provoke rape. This in turn means that men would be mindless, genitale-driven automatons that are activated in their raping procedure when a certain threshold of sexyness is witnessed by them. People should really think before they make ridiculous statements based on their crooked morals.

Too many people think the way you're dress is "asking" to get raped. This is a sick attitude that reflects badly on the person saying it, and it needs to go away.

Well, I did notice the length but only in a 'Diana's was longer' kind of way alongside thinking several other things about the dress being in no way like Diana's - apart from being black. It was not a judgemental thing at all.

I think she has too much makeup on. She looks like his mom, a 40 year old telanovella star in the picture, but the "pageant girl" thing explains the look. They do theatrical make up. That said she can do her makeup however she pleases and telling someone she deserves to be raped because her dress is short is disgusting

I'm heartbroken to see so many women still caught in the mindset that sexual assault and rape is something that women cause to happen to themselves . . . Glad to see the recipient of the comments not taking any rubbish, but really. Presume that they are seeing the pictures because they are friends with her parents?

I find it really alarming how much older women also believe the victim-shaming excuses for assault and misogyny. It's surprising how many older women are not supportive of equality either for much the same reasons I suppose- they had their harmful societal norms for how women look and behave drummed into them as kids in the '50s and '60s and now when anyone challenges those old assumptions, they feel threatened by it too. It's a mistake to think the problem is ONLY with men. To move on as society, we need to take EVERYONE along with us.

This is an evening/cocktail dress. It should be showing off (even if it is a little short to my taste, it looks beautifful on her). And you should teach your men that even a naked woman is not asking for it.

I am a 62 year old woman and I thought the dress was beautiful on the young girl. Unless you or others are DIRECTLY related to the young lady HOW DARE YOU call her names and criticise what she was wearing. It is none of your business ,, jealousy of young girls and boys because they still have their youth is not an attractive trait. As I say unless it is YOUR daughter or YOUR son. You should keep your opinions yourself. I think the young girl looked gorgeous. I have grandchildren of my own and I would be livid if some jealous boomer or anyone called them names.

She looks stunning and she should be acknowledged for looking beautiful. The haters likely represent the contingent of folks who could not get into that dress on a bet. I'm amazed that the reaction to Rhonda's post is in response to her use of the word "tramps" and not to her saying "and girls wonder why they get raped." The blaming of victims like this help perpetuate rape. Does Rhonda have any sons? If so, they should be watched closely because we can see how they have been raised to believe that a short dress means an invitation to assault 🙁

This my friends is why social media can be so extraordinary toxic, especially for younger people. I repeat NOBODY has any right to tell a woman that dressing "sexy" is asking to be a victim of assault. What right do you have over woman's bodies and how they choose to dress. I find it ironic that some people are attacking the young woman in the photograph for dressing too "sexy" or mature for her age, yet not one of those comments seems to mention her boyfriend's 1980's "glam rock" mullet (hey, if he can rock it, all the more power to him). You don't have to like her dress or her style, but to openly attack her is beyond immature and is flat-out bullying.

Straight up, the first thing that jumped into my head was, 'Why is he wearing jeans?' But I guess this is in one of those states were jeans are considered acceptable wear for any occasion so, fair enough. My only other issue is that, in this decade, there should be no mullets.

A lot of 'Boomers' seem to like the dress, however there are those so called Christians who think you have to dress like 1800's servant. The dress is fine, she looks beautiful, and there are too many close minded people who should actually mind their own business. When there is censorship for words like 'damn' and 'hell' this is because of the closed minds of people who get their knickers in a twist over words that are no longer considered rude, but they then think they have the right to announce their disgust over a 17 yo's dress. Now to me, these are the 'Karens' a lot of which are in the 40 yo bracket.

All those older women probably grew up in the same era I did -- fingertip length was considered LONG. My dresses came to my first knuckle. We all learned how to squat down straight-backed because we didn't dare bend over. Now women who wore those dresses are shaming younger girls for doing similar.

Hating on “Boomers” doesn’t make anyone above them. Be better. Everyone. - And stating all the “old” women are just jealous because they aren’t beautiful anymore; we all end up old y’all. A woman aging shouldn’t be used as an insult. All you do is perpetuate hate against women. Society only values us for our youth, our beauty, or our money. How about we change the narrative & start supporting and uplifting each other rather than trying to disparage age, looks, and socioeconomic status? Don’t be sheep & join in the trolling. Older/younger it’s the same thing; hate is hate. Be. Better. 👏

Well I’m an old hippy boomer, although a very open minded one, and yes I agree. Tired cranky & bitter old ladies who are pissed because she looks great. So much hate in this world. People, women, are so quick to find something to criticize and blame the women for being assaulted, so medieval, instead of taking joy in a beautiful young couple finally getting to enjoy a real Homecoming. Older woman here , please don't think we are all that way. There is a lot of ugliness in the world. Social media has really highlighted that for me . I tend to get my feelings hurt easily . I want everyone to like me. I finally realized the people talking sh*t online had absolutely nothing to do with me. If it wasn't me , they'd be talking it on somebody else. They're unhappy for whatever reason and they want to spread their misery. Keep your head up. I was a tiny thing when I was young too, if there was anything I could tell my younger self it would be to stop worrying about what anyone thinks.Show off that figure ! You won't always have it .People will hate because they are jealous. This isn't an offensive or risqué dress in my opinion. My tiny daughter wore a similar dress to her freshman homecoming. My stepmom asked me right in front of her why we let her wear a slutty dress .I just laughed and said so she'd be popular with the boys of course and walked off .Be yourself and be happy

It is a sad day to tear down our youth instead of guide and build up. Without any information about these 2 young people so much bashing has been thrown out. A society that thinks its ok for children under twelve to PICK what sex they choose for the day...has no right to socially shame anyone. When will humans stop abusing others as toilet?..enjoy Existence, Life. You only Got one, Made your positive marks and impacts meanwhile you can. Support each other...and be nice to each other its costs nothing and yet you can win so much..like inner peace..tranquility,wisdom,power.....etc......the concept of adult is also an illusion many are victim of.... then projecting their accumulated hate and mysagony to other people..a true MATURE person...doesn't have the need to judge negative over others. A MATURE person goes with the flow of life..and Life exists because of LOVE. SO dear Adult readers, Grow up..become Mature and overcome the Negative aspects of your own Existence. =P (HarHarHar)*evil mastermind laughter

"My dad would kill me date if he put his hands on my lower half". Hmm, no mention of consent or the 'daughter' feeling uncomfortable with the date. It seems like the father has ownership of her daughters sexuality. Being protective would be standing up for his daughter if she needs it, like asking her if she is ok with touching. Rarely if ever do I see the same "protection" go for the boyfriend.

She has a VERY pageant makeup application in most of these pics. Maybe when she's older she'll apply it differently, maybe she won't. When you're 17, I say just go for it. None of that 'personal presentation' stuff matters unless you're going for a job that frowns on it. In which case, get a different job 😂

I actually had to look at the article to see what people are complaining about and --- I still don't get it!!! Her dress was fine. and if it wasn't (in your opinion) then shut. Your. Mouth. Because it's not for you to judge what is and is not "appropriate". If she felt beautiful, if her parents approved, then that's all that matters.

Remember that the boomers were responding with the standards that were hammered into them at the time that they were attending their homecoming. Girls weren't allowed to wear skirts shorter than their knees, never allowed to wear pants to school, and were constantly told it was a girl's behavior that made her a target for rape. This is what we heard. At the same time, it was Boomer women of the 70's who fought so hard for women's lib, equal rights, and equal pay. It was Boomer women who fought for the rights of women over their own bodies and for the right to their own credit.Know your history and be thank for Boomers.

I think the dress is absolutely appropriate for a high school homecoming dance, what were they expecting, sister-wife prairie dresses from Target? The only thing I am not 100% with is labeling it "Boomer hate". Hate knows no generational boundaries, and for me, calling someone a Boomer, a Millennial, a Gen-X, Y or Z is pretty meaningless, especially since not everyone even agrees on the definitions... was gen-Z born after 1995 or 1997? It depends who you ask. Boomers theoretically were born between 1946-1964. If you were born in 1965 you're a Millennial. I think a Boomer born in 1964 would have a lot more in common with a Millennial born in 1965 than with someone born in 1946. Boomer is usually used as a pejorative, much as Millennial is beginning to be. Hate comes in all ages. We'll all get our chance to be looked down on.

    Hans

Maybe a second aspect to being slow-brained: in this case the absurd idea is that women showing "too much flesh" would provoke rape. This in turn means that men would be mindless, genitale-driven automatons that are activated in their raping procedure when a certain threshold of sexyness is witnessed by them. People should really think before they make ridiculous statements based on their crooked morals.

I think she has too much makeup on. She looks like his mom, a 40 year old telanovella star in the picture, but the "pageant girl" thing explains the look. They do theatrical make up. That said she can do her makeup however she pleases and telling someone she deserves to be raped because her dress is short is disgusting

WHY IS THE WORD RAPED CENSORED?? its a word that describes something! People survive that and have nothing to be ashamed of. It's not swearing, or offensive. It's a bloody verb that describes an awful crime.

She looks stunning and she should be acknowledged for looking beautiful. The haters likely represent the contingent of folks who could not get into that dress on a bet. All the while drumming up outrage based on hypocritical standards. People love to whip out the "old fashioned values" horse manure when they feel old.

Why do people feel the need to comment negatively at all about *any* aspect of the photo?! If you don’t like, move along! There is no need for negativity. I hope this girl can understand how unhappy people must be to have to push their negative energy on others. Be you girl! You do you! You look happy and young and full of life ❤️

You are beautiful and wear that dress well.

I actually had to look at the article to see what people are complaining about and --- I still don't get it!!! Her dress was fine. and if it wasn't (in your opinion) then shut. Your. Mouth. My dear. You dress like a tart. That dress, apart for being black, was nothing like Diana's. But also, my dear, you are a teenager, not a mature woman, so it is your right to dress like a teenager. just don't post photos of your self in the hope of gettig people to swwon over your ????? dress sense??

Remember that the boomers were responding with the standards that were hammered into them at the time that they were attending their homecoming. Girls weren't allowed to wear skirts shorter than their knees, never allowed to wear pants to school, and were constantly told it was a girl's behavior that made her a target for rape. This is what we heard. At the same time, it was Boomer women of the 70's who fought so hard for women's lib, equal rights, and equal pay. It was Boomer women who fought for the rights of women over their own bodies and for the right to their own credit.Know your history and be thank for Boomers.

Dress didn’t bother me as much as the artist’s palette of make-up she was wearing. I’m not a boomer.

Honestly that dress for her age is distasteful. She looks good in it but she could be wearing something just as pretty but more appropriate.

What makes it "distasteful"? Serious question. It follows her school's rules, her parents approved of it, and she went so far as to wear shorts underneath.
