The best cartoons make you laugh first and think a second later, and Megan J. Herbert has mastered that pause. The Australian cartoonist, whose work appears regularly in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, returns to Bored Panda with a new collection of illustrations about the absurdities of modern life, from everyday frustrations to politics, technology and social issues.
With a distinctive drawing style and a sharp eye for detail, Herbert turns complicated subjects into simple, clever observations. One panel might poke fun at politicians, another might capture the daily struggles of freelancers, and a third might imagine what birds think of people wearing headphones. This range earned the cartoonist the title of 2024 Political Cartoonist of the Year at the Museum of Australian Democracy, with judges praising both her versatility and her inventive use of metaphor.
We’ve gathered more of her witty and thought-provoking cartoons below. Scroll down and let us know which ones made you laugh, and which made you think.

More complicated than that. The Australian superannuation system is, or more correctly was, marvellous. You save a percentage of your pay and the government matches it dollar for dollar when you retire. So save a marshmallow and the government gives you two marshmallows back. In the meantime, that saved marshmallow does financial work, a lot of work such as paying back government deficits, but doesn't get lost.
Which cinemas are the sit quietly in the dark (no light from phones) and just watch the movie ones?
Labor (ALP) is the party of the centre left in Aust, and Liberals are part of the centre right. In terms of US politics, they are probably both a bit left of Democrats on most issues. This is our Prime Minister (who is ALP) at his party conference, not wanting to confront real issues.
"is that a fake munitions stockpile" is perhaps the most important unanswerable question in this decade. Especially when you realise that natural lithium is a thermonuclear explosive.
No! Alcohol-fuelled voices are the real reason noise cancelling earbuds were invented. They cannot be used while eating because earbuds are designed to throw themselves across the room while you chew
While Victoria's "big build" has been on, the potholes on old roads have increased exponentially.
