Pregnancy is hard and having a sense of humor during that time is harder. But sometimes that's all you have when you need to get through those long days!

Mommie Poppins is a series of sayings by a sassy new mom who has a slightly different take on things women experience during pregnancy. Pregnant Panda's - Which one of these sayings do you relate to?

I did that 5 times... and then went to the ER and had them re-do the test again to be sure. I had been trying for years, including a miscarriage, so when I finally saw that plus sign, I was afraid to believe it!!

Luckily for me, I was never a drinker (of alcohol) to begin with, so that didn't change. But no coffee??? I warned everyone the first week to not even think about calling me before at least 2pm!!

I actually never saw that. I managed to drag my husband to just ONE of those classes. He was very old-fashioned though, and while he was happy to be in the delivery room to see his son born, he was NOT into the idea of coaching me through labor. We decided drugs (ie - the epidural) was the way to go. --------------- As it turned out, I was 12 days past my due date, with no natural labor in sight, when the doctor decided to induce me. 27 hours later, they had to give me a c-section. If it were not for the epidural, I would have never made it through those 27 hours... so I think we made the right choice!!

Fat Or Pregnant?!

Fat Or Pregnant?!

Report

Maureen Mower 3 years ago

LOL... I went from being completely (relatively speaking anyway) flat right through the 4th month (which was making me paranoid!!), to waking up one day into my 5th month, and suddenly I had a football in there!! Literally the kid grew exponentially overnight... strangest thing ever!!

So true!! I never really cared for myself (I was married, after all) - but when younger members of my family get pregnant, I find myself at some point confronting the fact that, in order to have this happy event, at some point they had to be naked, in bed, with a boy!! That's hard to accept for a kid whose diapers you once changed while babysitting!!!

I could never actually find the baby in mine, lol. Of course, back in 1991, they only did small Polaroid-like printouts, in black & white. It was hard to tell what ANYTHING was in that - and yet everyone would "Oohh" and "Ahh" over it like they could actually SEE the kid. It was very weird!!

I Always Have An Excuse

I Always Have An Excuse

Report

Oh, no... pregnancy brain is very real, and it doesn't end when the kid is born either!! I swear I used to feel about half my intelligence (as well as the calcium from my bones, the iron from my blood, and the protective coating on my teeth) seeping from me into the baby. Suddenly I was completely uncoordinated (I fell twice during pregnancy - once, tripping over the tines of a forklift!), had all the energy of a sloth (I'd wake up in the morning, and by the time I finished breakfast, I needed a nap), and my teeth were actually starting to get loose!!! As for my brain... well, it wasn't on drugs, but it felt like it was... so I'm guessing Jimmy got that too. <3

My Weight Gain Limit

My Weight Gain Limit

Report

Maureen Mower 3 years ago

LOL... I can recall my cousin crying over how much weight she was gaining. Her doctor even yelled at her. I felt so bad, I didn't dare tell her I was right on track to gain only 30lbs during pregnancy. ....................... The joke was on me though... She lost all that extra weight within the first year. My son is 24, and I'm still carrying every one of those 30 lbs (plus another 20 I picked up over the years). He was 7 lbs at birth, but when I left the hospital, I weighed exactly the same as I did going in... somehow, I didn't even lose his 7 lbs!! I still haven't!!

THAT was the best part... anything I wanted to eat was okay. Ice cream by the pint? No problem!! Telling Hubby to bring me home a burger and fries from the diner on his way back from work - absolutely. Ordering (or making) a pizza and eating the whole thing myself? Sure!! And while I couldn't drink coffee, no one said I couldn't drink 4-5 glasses of chocolate milk daily (it WAS milk, after all, lol). Plus steak at least once a week, and all the flounder I could stuff my face with (baby needs the protein, lol). I ate GOOD while pregnant!!

We never worried about that... I wanted to get pregnant again, as soon as possible. But I had fibroid tumors, which made the one pregnancy I did carry to term a real accomplishment, and that was the only one. I'd had one miscarriage before that... and after, I was never even late again. :(

When You Don't Have Enough Money

I didn't do the registry thing... but my family knew money was tight. They threw me a shower that supplied all but the crib. I had the bassinette (with handmade coverings sewn by my aunties), a stroller, high chair, car seat, walker, bottles, several bags of diapers, pacifiers, blankets, towels, outfits, etc. My son didn't need anything for the first 3 months, except formula (I couldn't breast feed).

A Birth Plan

A Birth Plan

Report

LOL - so true!! I had my whole family on standby in case my water broke, since my hubby worked 10-hr shifts and I obviously couldn't drive myself to the hospital while in active labor. In the end, I went for a visit with my ob-gyn, who claimed after the sonogram that I had "no water left", so they would have to induce labor asap. ----------------- I've wondered ever since where that doctor got his degree, because a few hours later, after they gave me the epidural and I could no longer get up to use the bathroom, they had to BREAK my water to get the catheter in - and trust me, there was PLENTY of water in there!!
