Many people treasure their childhood because it is filled with special memories and a unique outlook on the world. Through her comic strip "Abby Comics" on Instagram and other platforms, artist Paige Walshe brilliantly conveys these common childhood experiences, from asking your dad for assistance with homework to the difficulties of caring for plants to be allowed to have a pet.
Her work takes us back to a time when we saw the world as children do and brings to life situations that a new generation is currently going through.

Had a friend in college that used a cloak in the winter. Always thought it was cool, but not something I could ever pull off. I'm also in favor of anything that gives women more pockets.
Pockets always make things better... especially women's clothing! 👍
Bored Panda reached out to Paige Walshe, the talented artist behind the popular "Abby Comics," to gain some more insight into her creative process and the inspiration behind her work centered around childhood.
When asked about the origin of "Abby Comics," Walshe shared, "Oh, 'Abby Comics' started as a sweet little project, born out of a love for capturing the raw honesty of a child's point of view. Abby, the child character, you see, she's a bit like every kid—full of questions, creativity and oodles of spirit. Her world is something I think we can all connect with because at some point, we were all a little bit like Abby!"

They know you love them, and also know you’re kind of a clumsy dork and accidents happen, so they don’t hold a grudge against you for it, they forgive and forget. I give them extra special pets and treats for being so kind when I’ve been overly dorky.
My cat is so sweet and forgives within minutes. I always make sure to let her know I'm super sorry :)

Me with my cat, but she always comes back and I wake up with her by my side. 🩷
In response to how she balances nostalgia with contemporary elements, she said, "Striking the right balance between old-school nostalgia and today's world can be quite a juggling act, but it's also super fun! I pull threads from my own childhood memories while adding a dash of what I see in the world today. Even though times change, the essence of being a kid is something that never really does, don't you think?"
I would too, but also, if they have been working very hard for a while, what is the harm in a little treat to reward themselves?

Since moving to the United States I've discovered the sheer joy of frozen yoghurt shops. Many of them are Asian owned where I currently live and work and have delicious toppings like fresh fruit, mango, coconut, and boba! It's always so embarrassing though when you have to put your delicious yoghurt creation on the scale to weigh it and you learned that you've purchased and will eat over a pound of yoghurt.
Way to go having the sitter be a boy, I assume, as boys get an unfair rap in the babysitting world.
I swear on my dead relatives - and even on the ones who are not feeling too good - I am your man forever!
A night camping out in the backyard (provided its fenced and safe) never hurt anyone. Well, rarely.
On the subject of integrating her personal experiences into her work, she explained, "Childhood is like this treasure chest full of gems just waiting to be explored. Many of my own memories sneak their way into the comic strips, but I also look at kids today, their funnies and their oopsies. I usually pick scenarios that feel like they've got that 'Hey, that happened to me too!' vibe. The aim is to create a chuckle, or a knowing smile, and sometimes, a good hearty laugh!"
I remember picking up a wrapped condom up off of the street, opened it up, blew it up, took it home and told mom how I found this cool balloon. This is where I found out about condoms and to never pick anything up off the streets.
My mother has had many a traumatic experience so I get it

I also told that to my niece to reassure her, that there was indeed a monster under the bed, but that it was I who had put it there to eat all the nightmares or villains who wanted to hurt her. Result: impossible to make her sleep, she wanted to go under the bed to see him and sleep with him:/ false good idea :D
I wish I'd had Blargh. Instead, I got the creepy kid from the original Pet Semetary, waiting to slash my Achilles tendon with a scalpel. Thoroughly traumatizing! 😱
When queried about the duality of joy and challenges in growing up as portrayed in her comics, the artist stated, "Life is a mishmash of ups and downs, right? And that's what I aim to portray in 'Abby Comics.' I hope my older readers get to hop on a fun nostalgia ride, while the little ones see that it's perfectly okay to have a mixed bag of days. The key is to find the fun and learning in each day and to remember that it's okay to curl up in a blanket every now and then!"
I tried this once when I was a little kid for what I thought were big birds turned out to be vultures who were not interested in Cheetos. Looking back I'm glad I did not attract any

I never really planned for it to spark conversations across generations, but it seems Abby's adventures and mischief have become a common thread that links different ages together. And you know what? That’s been the most fantastic surprise of this journey!"

I'm like this! It's gotten worse as I 'need' more things as I get older. Used to be just Vaseline and cigarettes and a lighter...then the phone was added much later, plus a great big Thermos of iced water b/c if I'm dehydrated I can end up overdosing on my meds, and I'm already diabetic, so I've got meds I've got to carry as well as Narcan. Now add glasses, a thing to keep my hair out of me face, vape pen(s) for the medical plant, and then there's the stuff you just shove into your pockets, like bits of string or jewelry I took off or receipts or spare change. I constantly lose my vape pens because I put them in my left pocket. Now that progression *did* take 30 years, but still...and we ladies DO need pockets! (Gonna get a cape!😊)
Abby, I have the same problem. Which pocket did I put it in this time?
If you have a child who thinks differently from everyone else, don’t shame them , make fun of them, or force them to conform, just go with it. If everyone thought exactly the same, this would be a very dull world indeed. The different thinkers, the imaginative, the eccentric, the unusual (and I mean in good ways) are the only people who bring a kind of glamor and light to our dull gray everyday lives. Now, I’m not talking about aberrant thoughts and behaviors, no. But people who imagine a future where small people cling to big people as a manner of transport, like remoras do to sharks, are most certainly incredibly interesting people to get to know, in my book. I prefer the company of the interesting and eccentric to that of the dull conformists.
👆👆👆Why do we as society spend so much effort trying to stamp out variety in thinking and invention? A huge hive mind will come up the same ideas as one person. We should all be attempting to respect and understand *other* ideas, *other* ways of thinking, and expect people to respect our own.

Load More Replies...I've never understood exorbitant pet fees and how it's legal to charge them every month. I've WORKED in the rental industry and I have NEVER seen a property left worse by renters with pets than renters with children. Yet there are no monthly children fees charged to renters. A deposit covers the cost of cleaning... Extra pet deposit perhaps understandable... But anything else is just discrimination in a natalist society.
But also... Never just assume, dentists. If only they had listened. I always took great care of my teeth and still do.., but always had so many problems. My older sister MIGHT brush hers once a week and never had problems. I'd of course get a lecture as if I was lying. Now I'm in my mid thirties and losing my teeth, found out at 32 I have a connective tissue disorder that effects dental health as well. Don't be so quick to call all children liars. 😮💨
I wonder when it became the norm to pierce little girls’ ears younger and younger, long before they can reasonably consent/understand what they’re consenting to. (Not trying to say that’s the case in this comic, it’s just me pondering it.)
It's a tradition in my culture. When I was a kid I didn't like wearing ear rings. During my uncle's wedding I didn't wear any and some women gave my mother hell of a time asking why am I not pierced. I couldn't say anything because I was a kid. Should have just told them to shut up.
Load More Replies...I begged my parents for years to get my ears pierced, starting when I was about 10. After 5 years they’d had enough, so at 15 I finally got my ears pierced. 15 isn’t an unreasonable age, so I don’t hold it against them for not wanting it to happen before I was at least in my mid-teens.
In my country, babies ears are pierced as they are still newborn. It's less painful and it's done in the hospital by qualified nurses. I think it's a western culture thing for it to be done when you are older and it's more painful. It's not backward or illegal, different culture have different practice.
I got my ears pierced when I was 13 and I was so stressed one of my ears actually bled from the stress following the piercing! I got the other ear pierced without issues, but I can’t say I blame the little girl for her *Calvin and Hobbes*-style screaming, either!
My adult daughter (who already has a few tattoos) wanted to get a mother-daughter tattoo with me. I've never had a tattoo before and didn't know what to expect. After the tattoo artist put the stencil on my leg, I turned to my daughter and said, "It looks great. I'm ready to go now."
When I got my ears peirce I screamed but my cousin who is one year older didn't move or scream
Wish I had never done it. I almost never wear them. I don't flind clip earrings uncomfortable. It just makes your ears look weird as you get older.
My 'aunt' Rhonda (a family friend) took me to get my ears pierced without either of my parents consent at a county fair. She asked me if I wanted to do it, and being a child only thinking of the pretty jewelry, I said yes. When the lady pierced the first ear I started screaming so bad and trying to run away tha Rhonda had to hold me down to do the second ear. When we met back up with my parents and her husband it was a very awkward reunion.
I got my ears pierced when I was 6-7 years old. The lady doing it was going slow, being super nice, reassuring me after each step and really fussing over me. I finally got annoyed and told her, "Just pierce them already!" She was so shocked, she pierced them in seconds. I was a terror. 😂

I had to write a 2 page essay on the history of ear piercing before my dad would take me.
My mom is allergic to some metals so my my ears started getting itchy she stopped letting me wear them. My holes never closed for some reason. Then one day I figured "hey its been 9 years let's see if I'm still allergic!" I'm not any more which led to me getting a bunch more piercings and even tattoos
My dad was a tad old fashioned. He didn't believe in ear piercing. He flipped when my sister got hers pierced. I never bothered, I had no interest in them.
I wasn’t allowed to get my ears pierced until the 3rd grade, when everyone else already had them. My mom made me learn to play the piano first lol

Some stores have the placement area set up strangely, so when you put stuff down, it's where things that are both checked and not would be at. It's weird. Another reason could be that the cashier placed the bag over there so she could grab the scanner. I've seen that happen.
