American pride is something unique to Americans. Over the past two decades up until Trump’s presidency, 81%-92% said they were extremely proud of their American identity, the Gallup data showed. Only this year, the numbers of extremely proud Americans dropped to a record low of 45%.
On the other hand, this alone shouldn’t be reason enough to forget such a seemingly basic fact as what your country’s flag actually looks like. But for some people, a few stars here and there don’t make that big of a difference, until someone points out this is the Liberian flag, or the Chilean flag, or the Malaysian flag.
The cursed emoji everyone has been throwing around may look like the spitting image of an American flag, but hey, guys, why don't we all get our stars, stripes, and proportions right? In the meantime, I can’t deny there’s an element of hilarity to all this. And a big one.

But these past years, the US has been undergoing extreme political and social challenges that have been making its citizens rethink American pride and its values.
The percentage of Americans expressing extreme pride in the country has been declining over the past 20 years, but recently it took a more extreme turn. The latest Gallup data gathered from a May 28-June 4 poll found that less than a quarter of Americans, 20%, are satisfied with the way things are going in the US. Meanwhile, presidential approval fell to 39%.

Probably nobody is interested, but I think it should be the opposite. I think we should inject the media with money. With two criteria: That money is spent on investigative journalism and the government can't interfere with the media's freedom of speech. The media is our watch dog, it's their job is to reveal corruption and share it with us, the tax payers. For example a small town's mayor is embezzling from the waste water management. In scenario A: The local rag is tipped of and they investigate, revealing the corruption, getting the politicians out of office and saving the community money. Senario B: the embezzlement continues throughout their stay in office, say three years and embezzling 3 million. The Waste Water Management is forced to make cuts. People are laid off so, important maintenance and repairs to keep the system running are not done. A major pipe breaks under main street. These citizens are now out of 3mil. and the shops have to clean up the aftermath of the flood.

The Confederate flag as known today was the battle flag of the COnfedeate States of America. It, like the once-benign swastika, has become a symbol of hatred and oppression. It represents treason and sedition and the daeth of US soldiers. And, no, Confed soldiers werent' US soldiers. THat was the whole point of the Civil War. THey didn't want to be in the USA. So they donned another uniform and FOUGHT THE USA. Go fly a Taliban flag why don't you.

The flag typically referred to as the "confederate flag" was actually the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. It never had anything to do with love of country; the Confederacy was treasonous against the US. The whole thing was because Southern slave owners couldn't bring their slaves to states with laws against slavery; their slaves would have been automatically manumitted. This is like saying, today, if you live in Maine, but you're traveling to Alabama, only Maine's state laws apply to you and Alabama's do not. The legal theory is pure bullshit.

Actually, the star & bars was the battle flag, not a the national CSA flag. As the lost cause was a military endeavour, the battle flag became the image that the victorious Union media identified as the symbol of the treasonous South. Hence, it is what we all recognise, to this day.

I actually love that all these people are making this mistake because I’m sure that none of these people have any clue as to WHY Liberia’s flag is similar to the US flag. It was founded by the American Colonization Society for African Americans and freed slaves to resettle and have a decent chance at life. And the flag is based on the US flag.

To be fair, emojis are small and can be hard to see, and at first glance it's easy to mistake one flag for the other. Plus, your brain sees what it expects to see so unless someone already knew what the Liberian flag looks like, it can easily be mistaken as the U.S. flag. Yes, some of these people are clearly idiots (like the one who thinks Obama retired rather than facing Trump) but I'd give a lot of them the benefit of the doubt. Seems like honest mistakes.
