I decided to spend my quarantine time drawing the only live model I had available – me!
I had to set up two lighting situations, one that highlighted me as the model, and another that lit the paper for me as the artist, but each had to not interfere or crossover to the other.
It was also a fun challenge to film the entire process because the camera had to be between me and the mirror in order to catch what my hand was drawing, which meant I had to shift the tripod when focusing on different parts of the body.
In the YouTube video, you get to see a timelapse of my mirror self portrait, but also a peek at how I was able to film it by myself.
This drawing was a really great exercise in trusting my eyes with proportions and taking my time. I spent three days, around 9 hours, to complete it, and I used just two pastel pencils, Parisian Blue and White on my favorite toned paper.
