It is interesting to look, how people that lived more than hundred years ago imagined the times we now live in. I have compiled a collection of postcards created by artists in the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century on the subject of the Millennium.
Many things depicted on them seem to be funny, but some ideas became a reality.

Actually the first bombers were zeppelins and they carried machine guns on the top, belly and back. Idk if dogfigts happened like that, but it's very possible. That was WWI of course and then the Hindenburg catastrophe happened and zeppelins were replaced by airplanes.

Why would you hang BOATS off of dirigibles? Also, I do think it's pretty funny that a bunch of 19th-century sci-fi writers and artists were like "You know what's the way of the future? Balloons."

I understand the down vote but remember who creat this picture: a French male from 19th/ early 20th. We're seeing this from our actual point of view and we are all glad this vision of the futur did not realise! But in case some people forgot, Europeans at that time had colonies and that was how they saw the Natives. Colonies were just good for their raw material, cheap workforce (very very close to slavery), showing domination of white peoples... white people giving themselves good conscience by Christianizing and "educating" those "poor/good savages". I'm a little sad this picture got buried, because it's hidding what actually happened, what we are responsible for....

It's interesting to see that while envisioning a future in which ordinary tasks were mechanized and air travel and underwater life became commonplace, the class system was preserved. Also persisting unchanged: sex roles, racial prejudice, war and violence, and the confinement of women's sexuality,

Yes this was the time!You can tell it was the time of discoveries, trying to "dominate" wild nature, animals and sadly other humans... You can tell this is french too because of all the wine featured in these pics lol (no bashing, i'm french).the pilot who stop to have his glass on a balcony is so fun! Thank you for the post Braslav

Everyone here must remember, these are all a part of the same set, so (having not done much research) I presume they were all made by the same artist or artists. There were people who studied physics and mechanics and understood that none of these really make sense.

Interesting to see that people were all about discovering more about the deep seas, but no one imagined going into space. Funny that they didn't think to fly so much higher with those wings.

This reminds me of back to the future part II where they thought we would have flying cars and hover boards in 2015!

I can't believe they thought things like that could be possible. Wings, learning with a machine which sends signals to your brain... And I thought modern people are ridiculous. Notice though, they were naive enough to think fashion wouldn't change over the years.

Technically, a computer is a machine which sends signals to your brain via your eyes and ears :)

Seriously the underwater thing could solve the current housing crisis around the world. Now we just have to convince the wealthy elite that underwater living is awesome so we can snatch up their prime real estate on land
