Woman Thinks She Hacked Amazon By Ordering A Ton Of Free Carpet Samples, Regrets It Immediately

Free stuff! Everybody loves free stuff, don’t they? Imagine the delight of this woman, Imgur user RowdyMcMenace, when she discovered an Amazon shopping feature that will send carpet and fabric swatches free of charge, delivered to her door. “I definitely got carried away ordering that many!” Rowdy told Bored Panda. “I got one small delivery at first, then yesterday a mountain of free carpet samples arrived.”

“These would make a neat cat scratcher, and they’re free so…” she said about her reasoning behind the free carpet collecting. Makes sense right? In her own words, she stated her case quite eloquently. “I never requested these under the pretense of making a purchase, and if a company can not afford to give away carpet samples, then they shouldn’t offer.”

However, I think it’s fair to say she made an enemy out of the Amazon delivery guy by the time her sample splurge was finally satisfied, and there were so many individually wrapped packages that he required a little extra assistance. “My boyfriend was home and awake, so he helped the delivery guy bring everything inside,” she told us. “That’s why there’s an empty hamper in one picture- he was using it to carry a bunch at a time!”

Despite the unexpected arrival of the ‘mountain,’ Rowdy’s boyfriend appears to have taken the whole episode in good spirits. “My boyfriend is so laid back that after the mountain of parcels was inside he woke me up to watch me freak out,” she told Bored Panda. “I was in disbelief, then all I could do was laugh and apologize. I felt awful, but it was already done so might as well make the best of it! He helped me clean everything up, and then we played with the cats.”

Having learned her lesson from the binge, which came in packaging that she did not expect, she has kindly decided to donate the excess samples to local animal shelters. “I can’t bring myself to sell something I got for free,” she explained. “I’d much rather donate and share.”

Scroll down below to see her story, and let us know what you think in the comments!

“It started off innocently enough. I found this cool feature on Amazon to get free carpet swatches and thought they would make a neat cat scratcher and they’re free so…”

“The first bundle arrived and it was a good amount but I realized not all of the textures were gonna be good so I ordered more”

    “A LOT MORE!!! HOLY SH*T”

“I am on night shift so I was woken up to this. The delivery guy is not happy. I swear I didn’t realize I ordered this many and I thought they were all going to be small!!”

“They are not small. The cats are super interested and I’m laughing hysterically out of nervousness that my future husband might realize I’m a psychopath and leave me”

“Oh man you guys I’ve really abused the system here. Let me know if you want me to show you how to abuse the system too! I’m an enabler, and it’ll make me feel better”

“I only hope the warehouse guys have dealt with my level of stupidity before because this tops the charts”

“We have halted progress now that all the big ones are open. I regret nothing. 10/10 recommend Kitty thrones”

I may be too harsh but I just really can't applaud this circumventing (hope I've used this word correctly) of the system. Nothing is ever free, I like that you can order a sample for free but doing these type of things will not exactly motivate anyone to provide this service in the future...

Why do you show off about this? It is nothing to be proud of that you wasted all these samples that you never needed and never will use. I would expect this kind of behavior from a child, not a grown woman.

My Mother carpeted five, no six, rooms of our house by collecting carpet scraps from the carpet stores in our town, and I, as a kid, helped her lay it in patterns. It looked great! It was just my Mom, me and three sisters so my mother had to be resourceful as we had little money. She did a fantastic job.

First, this woman obviously knew what she was doing. Second, congratulations on ruining a useful service for people who actually were considering making a purchase. Third, this was free only to you- it cost quite a bit to ship you all of those samples. Fourth- you made a bad situation worse by telling others how they too could be a narcissistic, self-indulgent, avaricious, attention whore. But hey- screw everyone else as long as you get what you want right? You're not funny, you're not clever, what you are is an a**hole.

This makes me ill. As an interior designer I always have stacks of carpet samples and fabrics to get rid of. I mostly give them to schools and artists, but would gladly give them free of charge to anyone that asks! If anyone is thinking about doing what this woman has done, please hit up a local designer or architect. They would probably welcome the chance to clean up their office!

FYI you can no longer get free fabric or rug swatches on Amazon thanks to this woman's actions - they stopped being offered within 24 hours of this article being posted. I had ordered 3 rug samples and 2 fabric samples while buying Amazon furniture for my house. When i tried to order 2 more fabric samples soon thereafter, the swatches were no longer available. After spending a lot of time trying to figure out why, I came across this article. I think any reasonable person would have anticipated that abusing that system and then bragging about it on the internet would cause the system to collapse. Waste is not cool, laughing about the needless work you are causing your postal worker to do is not cool, being completely oblivious to the consequences of your own actions is not cool, and bragging about your own selfishness is definitely not cool.

Thank you! That was exactly my thought, no matter where these came from the carbon footprint to deliver these to this inconsiderate &$%#^@ must be awful, and as one Interior Designer above said you could get samples locally from Designers or Architects for free and if you don't have one close, carpet stores throw out strips/excess pieces of carpet they'd be happy to give you. Please try local before doing this.

They were giving them away for free so I don't see the problem in her getting abunch to make cat scratchers, even to go overboard I don't think that's too terrible. But then she has to go on social media and brag about it and go on about it so much, she's going to ruin it for everyone else in order to get attention for herself. So frickin selfish. Just shut up, get off social media and make some scratchers and play with your cat. I also think her carrying on about the delivery guy not happy. His job is delivering packages, i hardly think he'd he'd be unhappy about packages to deliver.

So she wasted all these people's time and money for no reason whatsoever. How selfish do you have to be to think that because someone offers a free service that it is "free." They still have to pay for the product, postage and wages and are hoping to get business from decent honest people. Not supple someone just using their generosity without ever thinking of buying.

Many years ago I had the pleasure to visit relatives of my then husband who were living in a northern part of NYS. Their income was meager o say the least but their creativity knew no bounds. Their home was fantastic having been decorated on what would now be called ‘chic upcycling’ The best part though were the floors covered entirely of carpet samples gleaned from a shop that had pieces representing wall-to-wall no longer manufactured. They carefully pieced together designs and colors into the most outrageous patterns by gluing the samples to a woven carpet pad and binding the edges. Pity that this lung woman cannot see the beauty in what she has received instead seeing only the results of a wasteful act.

-A preschool, daycare of school might be able to use the extra. They have students use mats to sit at circle or story time(so they stay on their own may & don't touch or bother each other). - you could sew them together in interesting patterns to make an area rug. -sew two together and its a bath mat or door mat. Everyone gets one for Xmas.

Please, look to local carpet stores or Interior Designers or Architects before you use this horrific method, if you love your animals, love their environment and source it locally for free, you may even raise more local awareness for your rescue operation with people of means who may donate more because of it. :)

Do something useful for someone with these. I bought a bunch of carpet samples years ago that were 18" by 12" and used them to make a cute patterned carpet on a playroom floor for my daughter. She loved it and it looked beautiful and lasted very well for about 12 years. We used some as back-seat car floor mats and gave some to friends for that use. Also some were put in our dog's house under her doggy bed. etc.

Let me get this straight: some of you are complaining that this woman abused the system by (possibly) intentionally ordering too many carpet samples. So what about all of the lobbyists who are saving the wealthy millions of dollars by having clauses inserted into laws that favor them? (I'm talking about the U.S., not anywhere else.) Circumventing any law is what they're all about. When it comes to freebies, they wrote the book, both literally and figuratively.

Yes, everyone should have hundreds of their whims home delivered, in plastic, probably from thousands of km's away, using tonnes of fuel and creating unnecessary pollution, and costing the manufacturer/business owner money because we're all spoilt, selfish and couldn't give a flying fvck about anyone else. Great Idea.

When our daughter was about 3, we got a hold of a lot of carpet samples. Colors, thickness, size, etc. We glued them to her bedroom floor while she was out with Grandma and her favorite aunt. It was worth it, when this 3 year old saw the result she said "Neato" :) :)

Not only does this woman know that these things come out of profit from selling carpet... so the consumer pays for it.. she has no intention of bying anything... so she makes cost go up for everyone else.. and there is no possible way she ordered that many free samples without knowing she was going overboard. Period \

I'm just astounded at how colourful and interesting some of these carpets are. In NZ it's shades of cream, brown, beige or grey (maybe some greenish or blue hints) unless you have it custom made. Certainly no real patterns.

Well I’m going to assume this may be the reason they won’t sent me a sample to see if it’s what the actual web page is showing or not. I don’t want to buy a $300 plus shipping and c**p for something that may not even be the same colour. People like this ruin it for the rest of us.

Great Idea.
