Female Scientist Invites ‘Mansplainers’ To Gaslight Her On Twitter, Hilarity Ensues (30 Pics)
Interview With AuthorWith so many women all over the world having to deal with mansplaining on a regular basis, it’s rare to see someone actually asking to have her area of expertise mansplained to her. However, that’s exactly what Dr. Héloïse Stevance did on Twitter, asking others to condescendingly (but jokingly) roast her despite her experience in astrophysics and a PhD in supernovae.
The result is unexpectedly witty, funny, and makes for a light yet riveting read—perfect for your Monday morning while you’re still bleary-eyed, slowly slurping your coffee, and wondering where the weekend ran away to (and what month it is). Have a look through what people jokingly mansplained to Dr. Stevance and remember to upvote the responses that made you smile or laugh. When you’re done, let us know in the comments what area of expertise you’d invite people to -splain to you.
Dr. Stevance from the University of Auckland told me that ever since she's been a kid, she's always been interested in learning how the world works. Especially objects in space which she found to be super cool (and so do we!). "Stars, black holes, galaxies—all these massive and extreme phenomena that your brain can barely comprehend because they are so vast," she listed some of the awesome things that captured her imagination from an early age. "It's that same curiosity that keeps me passionate. The Universe is so creative." Read on for Bored Panda's full interview with her about how to get into the field if you're interested in space, and her take on why mansplaining is still a thing, especially in the STEM field.

Hahaha- btw how many of these people do you think don’t genuinely mean saying s**t hah
I loved this one! Not even a wrong piece of information or supposition! Rising totally on the studies and smarts of a third, imaginary person AND being arrogant on their behalf, too. Bravo!
Again, he spelled Jimi Hendrix wrong. If you are going to attempt mansplaining, at least get your facts about male rock stars' names right.
When has a mansplainer ever started off with "please forgive me" before asking a question? Phrase softeners and unnecessary apologies are not often taught to men, particularly those who mansplain.
That's actually (except for the first six words) relatively apt and funny and not mansplaining science in sciencey terms... so, wrong here!
Incoherent babble... constant digressions... inability to stay on topic... sprinkled with a smattering of condescension... Wait a minute, Donald is that you?!?!
i did a science project on supernovae and only when i had almost finished i figured out it was supernovae not supernovas :P
The only error I see in this one is that 'phenomena' is spelled correctly.
Guys i'm an expert because I have watched ALL the Star Wars movies
It's not per say, it's per se. This is perfect because of the imperfections XD
This concept of mansplaining still raises questions for me. I have met lots of ppl (men and women) who can be discribed as an annoying know-it-all, who display the behaviour described in the article above. But they do it to men and women alike. Back when I was a security guard I've been called a racist more than I care to remember. Sometimes people I had to remove from the premises because of their behaviour thought it was because of their skin colour. That doesn't mean racism doesn't exist or that it isn't a problem, but these people were seeing racism where there wasn't any. Couldn't it be possible that many cases of 'mansplaining' is just seeing sexism when someone is just being an annoying know-it-all?
Yes that's exactly it in my opinion. I'd argue that if a man explaining something like menstruation or menopause to a woman that's legitimate mansplaining (as long as the guy isn't a doctor or something), but if we look at the other mansplaining thread we had recently we can see that about half of it was just mislabeling. Like Mutchima implied here as well it starts from either side, so maybe it's the recipient that's a little sexist sometimes. A guy over explaining something to a woman purely because they are a woman is mansplaining. Beyond that it might just be someone excited to make conversation or trying to share something they've learned.
Load More Replies...I am all for gender equality but this is making all men look like know it all assholes and yes there are men that are like that but also women can be like that too. If this same thread was how women might stereotypically react to a male astrophysicist everybody would be yelling
Hahahaha!!! "It happens to men too", "not all men", "boys will be boys", blah
Load More Replies...F**k the term Mansplaining. I'm so tired of it. There are idiots male or female. Never heard of femisplaining when an idiot woman starts to explain something.
I agree completely. In fact, I can think of several instances of femisplaining that I've personally witnessed where a woman assumed a man didn't know something because he was a man. Off the top of my head, I've seen women femisplain parenthood to fathers & I've seen women femisplain hair care to male hairdressers. Sexist assumptions go both ways & are equally frustrating.
