35 Celebrities That Had Everything And Made Career-Changing Mistakes, As Presented In This Thread
Famous people seem to have it all. Fame, recognition, money, and influence. Some folks would do anything to become a celebrity as it opens so many doors, but others wouldn’t like to be famous at any cost as they prefer a calm and private life.
However, while being famous may seem like a dream life where everything is possible, there is another side to the coin. People are watched and discussed, and every step and action is scanned and discussed. And while you may have the biggest potential, one mess-up, and you may never recover from it.
So, speaking about that, recently, one Reddit user started a discussion asking folks to list famous people who had everything going for them but then managed to mess up badly and never recover from it... because some of these actions are actually impossible to come back from and hope that everybody has forgotten. So sit back and scroll through this list, as most of us like some drama.

Robert Downey Jr. And then, he started all over. I admire him.
Yes, absolutely! He is living proof that people can redeem themselves, and I also admire him.
I have not been kept in the loop.. What has happened?
Load More Replies...Back in the 90s, I sincerely thought he'd be dead by now. He really pulled it together and saved his own life.
He made mistakes and then learned his lesson and got his sh*t together. He wasn't dangerous like some mentioned here, he really doesn't belong on a list with some of the horrible people listed here.
Good on him for taking responsibility for his behavior and making changes to be a better person.
This should be on a different thread, really. On how you can make mistakes, but start over afresh.
I mean were still watching the chickens come home to roost in real time but Elon musk has destroyed at multi decade PR campaign to convince the average person he’s tony stark
Edit: a lot of Elon Stan’s are UPsetti spaghetti about this.
I've always thought he was a jacka$$. A lot of people confuse genius and arrogance. It's downright scary that he can literally make decisions that influence war outcomes. It also absolutely sucked when he admitted he had Aspergers because then everyone assumed his bumhole personality is because of it which just reinforces limiting and incorrect stereotypes about ASD.
I wish I could upvote this a thousand times.

The mine itself was in Zambia, according to Snopes, and it was a stake in a mine. Also, his dad belonged to the PFP, which was a precursor to the DP, then the DA. (The PFP was a leftist party, which is ironic since the DA has stopped pretending they aren't racist.)

Ellen DeGeneres. "Be kind to one another" unless you work for me. Then all bets are off.
I knew she was not a kind person by watching her game show. Those stunts were twisted af and she took wayyy too much pleasure in it all.
Yeah, and during Halloween, she would scare the s**t out of all the staff. I used to watch the show and I was always thinking, "I hope no one has a heart condition." She took great joy in that too.
Load More Replies...That reminds me of my ex husband's mother's Facebook page. She likes to use a picture that says "treat people with kindness" as her profile picture but talks s**t about people behind their back. It apparently applies to everyone but her. She and one of her sons and were gossiping and talking s**t about her brother's granddaughter on Christmas, the day after the girl's birthday in the kitchen and they were saying things that shouldn't be said about someone you are supposed to love. And this girl is the sweetest but didn't fit their idea of what they thought she was supposed to be. She was s**t to me too but how she treated this girl was horrible and she was blood related. Luckily she's cut them out of her life now that she's an adult. My ex's mom is fine if you're everything she approves of, but once she's upset she'll be fake nice to your face and talk s**t to everyone she knows the moment you're not around.
also funny note, I'm no longer accepted by them for daring to leave a man who used me and manipulated me because it's her son who she still babies, but they don't know I'm still talking to the granddaughter. We are actually very similar and I always wanted to do more for her but felt it wasn't my place. My ability to help her with them around was very limited. We had lunch not too long ago and I listened to her about how she was treated and it was unacceptable and abusive. I really don't blame her for going no contact. They would be enraged to know she talks to me but not them.

MedusaWasBeautiful have you ever read a bible? your argument is severely flawed, there are *many* verses specifically saying that pedophilia is definitely unholy. Load More Replies...There was a YouTuber named Carl that did programming videos for years that was arrested for CP and trafficking his own son. I remember watching his videos years ago. His videos were great at explaining programming concepts. It was just recently I was made aware of what a horrible person he was. I saw a documentary on YouTube about him that was horrifying. He was SO much worse than the press showed us.
That series they did on him was horrifying…. So much worse than I ever imagined in my worst nightmares. The voice recording of him targeting a little girl “the one with the parents that are getting divorced” because she’s more vulnerable especially triggered me. I was that kid and was assaulted. I wouldn't put her in the same category as most of these. She didn't make "A bad choice" as much as she was dealt a terrible hand both in terms of mental health and relationship, was not provided with proper help even as she publicly suffered and that destroyed her.
Addiction is a b|@ch! I'm sorry to see it took one of the gears. Someone once told me "if it didn't happen to the best of us, it couldn't happen to the rest of us". I can't unthink it now..
I really admired her when I was a kid. Drugs either turned her into a heartless b***h or just showed who she really was.
Alison Mack
Her character in Smallville was original to the show and not part of the Superman mythos. She did so well by it that they introduced it in the comics.
But she had to go co-run a cult that sex trafficked women and branded them like animals.
End of career, no reunion shows, no comic cons, character dropped from the comics so no cool legacy, oh yeah...and jail.
Same. Tripped me up and almost ruined a childhood favourite.
Load More Replies...Committing heinous crimes is not "screwing up". "Oops! I accidentally lured women into a sex trafficking cult and got caught. My bad."
Was on the TV show Smallville (a Superman thing). She voluntarily branded women (you know, like cows) and delivered them to mlm/cult leader for brainwashing and sex. Robert Downey jr shouldn't even be in this list by comparison.
I'm so glad I didn't wait in line to get her autograph when I went to MegaCon (Orlando, Florida, USA) in 2003.
Who knows, maybe you could have auctioned it off to the sick people that are fans. Or maybe the true crime fans who collect that type of s**t. It would make a nice donation to a charity for sex trafficking victims.

His mothers death really sent him off the deep end. The guy has some seriously untreated mental health issues, and it seems the people that surround him are making sure he doesn't treat it.
By all accounts he has always been egotistical, interested in learning psychological control techniques, and misogynistic. He's also been obsessed with Hitler for a long time. His speech during the Katrina fundraiser was spot on but his reputation prior to that was already one where he liked to make everything about him regardless of the situation. There's been a lot of debate about what condition he has and whether it's to blame for his behavior but according to Ye, and those closest to him when he was a little more healthy, the diagnosis is Bipolar. Family and friends did try to get him help but he has refused treatment. Bipolar does not explain or excuse his abusive behavior. He absolutely did have a break after his mom died, and based on recent accounts of his business interactions, he is surrounded by enablers. But that does not excuse the misogyny, stalker behavior and violent threats, antisemitism, slavery statements, and inappropriate sexual conduct at Adidas.
Stop analysing it. he's an entitled, rich twat who has found a platform and is determined to shout from it. He is an undereducated, knee jerk shouter of hatred of the worst kind with 'people' who prop up his hateful beliefs because they are being paid to do so. God bless capitalism, greed, spitefulness and hatred eh KYJELLLYY ....
Load More Replies...people! being bipolar can lead you to do crazy things, including hurt people. BUT HAVING MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES DOES NOT MAKE YOU HATE JEWISH PEOPLE. or be a b***h to a young celebrity just because you can.
Never saw, or heard, his appeal. I worked in a warehouse back in '05/'06 where they would blast the local hip hop station at all times. I heard Gold Digger so many times I wanted to stab by eardrums. I was like "This guy will be a one-hit wonder." Apparently he got really popular in the ensuing years as I ignored him. Still don't get the appeal. I tried listening but his stuff just isn't good. It sounds generic.
FTR, as someone who's bipolar: mental illness is the explanation, not the excuse. It didn't help that he's always been massively egotistical and surrounded by enablers.
Seeing the photos in Venice of him getting a bj from his wife out in the open made me so angry. Gay people are harassed on the street, called names, even beaten just for existing, they are accused of exhibitionism when they hold parades because "wHy Do ThEy hAvE tO sHoVe ThEiR sExUaLiTy DoWn OuR tHrOaT?", they can't hold their hands or kiss out in the open but straight (rich) people can go around wearing a pillow and nude pantyhose as clothes and being blown, butt naked, on a boat. Also, the disrespect for the poor boat driver who had to see the scene and shut up. Seriously, I'm appalled.

He was very abusive to her and misogynistic, she was isolated, abused, then killed by a rich and powerful abuser. It was not an accident, daddy paid for his short sentence.
He was put on a pedestal because he's disabled. He probably was always a misogynist and a bastard.
Bit of an odd ball answer but Andrew Cuomo. He was an ADA, lawyer, founded a law firm, was a secretary under Clinton, AG, and then became NY governor. He was probably one step away from being the next DNC candidate for president.
Then, as y'all probably all already know, several women came forward and told their story.
How about his brother's fall from grace? Chris Cuomo was fired by CNN for using his journalistic contacts to try to get info about his Andrew's accusers. He denied the charges. Chris' salary at CNN was $6 million a year, and his present salary is considerably less...
Same deal with Rudy. He was America's mayor after 9/11. Then he went and set himself on fire. Several times.
For real. Maybe this has changed recently, but last I heard he was still setting himself on fire for Trump and not getting paid.

Charlie Sheen

His is a prime story of untreated mental illness and substance abuse. If someone that connected and wealthy can fall prey to those demons, it should surprise anyone that the average person has almost chance to beating that combo.
I've just watched "Hot Shots: Part Deux". He and Llyod Bridges were the only ones who didn't just phone in their performances (I'm looking at you Rowan Atkinson) and made an otherwise crapy movie good.
Sheen was great in Two and A Half Men but it was a shame that his vices got the best of him. Many fans of the show felt that it wasn't the same after Sheen left but Jon Cryer and the late Conchata Ferrell did their best to carry the show without him. I think Ashton Kutcher did have his moments here and there even though a lot of people didn't like him as Sheen's replacement.
Here I was thinking he was just a huge wasted talent and a giant A*s!
That last sentence scares me. My favorite singer offed themselves. They suffered a lot of abuse and substance issues, a lot of the same things I went through. And if someone with all that can succumb to their darkness, what’s stopping mine from getting me?
How so? Treatment costs $. Seems to be pretty correlated.

This was an ESH situation. You don't make jokes about someone's medical condition, but you also don't hit someone for it. Will could have gone up there and and said something, for sure, but he didn't need to slap him.
Jada Pinkett-Smith has been giving Chris Rock hell for years because he won't go along with her rhetoric. She's wanted him to boycott and turn down lucrative job offers that he has had, to protest some b******t and he basically told her to "f**k off". I've lost my hair more than once going through chemo and have shaved my head, as sort of a preemptive strike. When I go to have it done for me, we refer to it as the " G.I Jane" cut because it sounds badass and empowering, instead of "oh s**t, my hair is falling out". Watch Chris Rock's bit about it on YouTube from his last comedy special, because he talks all about what happened.
Load More Replies...If he had done it differently he would have been the good guy. He didnt. He assaulted somone on live tv before a massive audience.
If he had of stood up and said quit picking on my wife she has been public about how insecure she is about her hair loss all would have been fine. Got to say though will Smith was a ticking time bomb. He clearly needed help long before the slap
Amazing how many people here are perfect and never make mistakes in anger or view Smith as someone who's supposed to be better that everyone else. Here's the story Rock made an insensitive joke, Smith got mad and made a mistake. Everyone is human and deserves forgiveness if they ask. Are you all so much better?
I think it truly is a case of everyone's the AH here. There is bad history between Jada and Chris Rock with sniping going back and forth - so it's not as if this poor taste 'joke' is likely to be in good spirits. She rolled her eyes, that was a reasonable response. Will Smith laughed... well, caught up in the moment and then it clicked when he saw her reaction. That happens. It is also not a good move to make fun of something a person cannot control and who isn't sensitive about losing their hair? I've known women who were horribly upset about it. Men too, why shouldn't they mind. Will Smith - traumatic events in his childhood, wound up on the day and so maybe not balanced. He reacted badly and it's not right to hit someone. I have been tempted, but restrained myself as Will Smith would have been better doing. At least he went on and got help... at least I think he did.

Just sad really!!
Jennifer Grey is always my go-to for self-inflicted career ending.
After she starred in Dirty Dancing and became a big name, she decided to get a nose job to make herself look better. What happened was no one recognized her anymore, and her career became limited to minor roles in TV and B-rated movies.
She was an incredible, unique beauty, and she made herself look just like everyone else. What if Barbra Streisand had gotten a nose job?
Then she would have been canceled too, cause then her singing wouldn't be the same. Barbara's nose was an important instrument in her carrier.
Load More Replies...I believe she decided to take time off from her career when the car she was riding in, driven by Matthew Broderick (her boyfriend at the time), crossed into oncoming traffic that resulted in the deaths of two women. He was convicted of careless driving & fined $175. This was in Northern Ireland. The accident occurred close to when Dirty Dancing was released. She retired from acting for a time because of how bad she felt about the accident. {https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennifer_Grey}
What are y'all talking about? She's a working actress. She hasn't just had supporting roles.
And her ex became Agent Carlson in the MCU. Probably more famous than her now.

Once again, not guilty does not equate to innocent. He did the things he's been accused of, there just wasn't sufficient evidence to convict and put him in jail.

MC Hammer. To this day, he’s still used as a warning to up and coming music artists.
We don't teach financial literacy in US schools. It's passed down through generations by the exclusively wealthy. Two thirds of Americans today could not pass a financially literacy test. I believe this is by design. The last generation to receive financial training in public schools are now boomer republicans or angry progressive shouting at the man while sitting on fat real estate. The wealthy of that generation in government elected to remove such training thereafter. Inner city schools, like Oakland where Hammer grew up, never got the funding for that. Up on the hill there, the neighborhood of Skyview, they were better educated and thus prospered. We at least need to value economics education enough so people know how to check their accountants and financial institutions.
At least he went broke trying to help people he knew. It’s a fault of a good heart.

Most recently? Kevin Porter Jr. nba player for the Houston Rockets. He just signed a 4 year, 80 million dollar deal and got arrested for assaulting his gf.
The dream young people have to hit it big in sports create so much disappointment. Millions strive for it, work for it, live only for that. From toddlers up to adulthood that is their life and the minute amount of these that actually make it is incredible. It has been calculated to be about that 2% make it big in sports. The ones that do, deserve it but when they screw it up like this they should be given absolutely no leeway. They not only screwed up their achievement but did it and ruined the dreams of so many that wanted it so bad.
My unpopular opinion is any professional athlete must have a clean record in order to play. Kids look up to them and they should actually be the role models they pretend to be.
Well, yeah! They become famous, think money will fix all their problems and that because now they r rich and famous, they can get away with everything like other rich (mostly white, yes) folks do. There isn't really anyone to help guide them when they r given all this wealth and fame, and everyone is just looking to scam them from all angles. Im not saying the gf deserved it or anything, I'm just saying it's a whole different jungle with that level of money for them, and they r not even remotely prepared.
I'm not done with this list but I'm hoping now Dennis Rodman is on here too.
WTF, that is frankly obscene ; Break this down. He gets paid to run up and down a small, indoor, heated wooden floored 'pitch' , bounce a ball for a short time and try to get that ball into a hoop with a small roped hoop underneath it. This goes on for an interminable time with lots of breaks for no reason, there seems to be some anger at some stage; why, , no idea. It is an utterly pointless 'sport'. Look it's origins up, you will see I'm entirely right.
That's all sports, and a great deal of other human activity. We are always making our own meaning.

Sorry, cannibalism is never a "product of your upbringing" I read the charges and the private messages and I got physically sick

Steve-O, but he recovered so, so good! On the same note but not yet recovered, Bam Margera.
Absolutely love this guy,he tells it like it is and it's great to see him living his best life.
Steve-O went through a world of poop and came out the other side. Good for him, and hope for Bam.
I am so happy for Steve-O!! He really did come out a winner from his s**t show.
I am also in recovery. Some years ago when he was touring my city (Perth, Westerly Australia) he made time to speak at our local rehab centre rather than do heaps of publicity shows.
Dunn’s death was a wake up call for a lot of his friends, it’s just a shame Bam didn’t answer the phone.
I'll be honest, I really thought Steve would be the first of the group to check out of life, but I'm really impressed with how he turned it all around.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman…relapsing into [illegal substances] after decades of being clean cost him his life.

Yep. You try to take the same amount you used to, and it's too much. Bradley Nowell from Sublime, too.

I met him once at a park by the Hudson River in NYC and we had a really nice chat, when I realized who I was talking to I was screaming inside my head but didn't make it obvious. Turns out it was the best thing I did because the conversation carried on for a while and we were just two normal people having a normal chat. It was awesome, he was an incredible human being, treated me with much respect. His loss was much felt.

Aaron Hernandez had some of the worst CTE ever seen in autopsy and literally the worst the researchers had ever seen in anyone younger than 45. He might have looked like he had everything going for him but he was badly brain damaged the entire time, and more so than even most pro football players.
It's just disgusting a popular sport demands from its athletes to ruin their physical and mental health to entertain people. It's like Mayan basketball resurrected on a different level.
Mayan basketball, Roman gladiators... I mean, humanity kind of has that tradition going. We are not a nice species.
Load More Replies...Let's not forget he killed people. I get that he had extreme CTE but he was still a mega a$$hole
He had actual traumatic brain injury which caused his violence. That's not being an a*****e.

College football season is insane especially the Big Ten and SEC conferences and you might as well forget about any other sport in the fall.
It’s this kind of stuff that made me so against my son playing football.
It's the same situation with NASCAR and why so many drivers, like Dale Jr, Tony Stewart, etc are retiring. You can only have so many insane wrecks at 200+ mph and concussions, before you finally say I'm done.
Seems like it's gonna be the next "insanity plea" in criminal charges.

Alexander Hamilton
HoopOnPoop added:
He had an affair with a married woman. When her husband found out, he blackmailed/extorted Hamilton to keep it quiet. Later on, Hamilton's political enemies found the financial irregularities and accused him of abusing his post as Treasury Secretary to engage in corrupt financial practices. At that point he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. He could either risk being accused of abuse of power while the government was still in a really precarious place or he could come clean and explain what was really happening. He chose the latter and wrote the "Reynolds Pamphlet" (the woman was named Maria Reynolds) admitting to everything. It pretty much ended his political career right there.
One less thing to worry about just one less thing to worry about
Load More Replies...As I recall, Aaron Burr had at least a small role in ending Hamilton's political career.
I didn't, but I attended 3rd grade, so I knew this one, too!
Load More Replies...Plus running around challenging everyone to duel everytime he got his feefees hurt. He was the douchiest Founding Father imho.
Actually, Hamilton's affair didn't have as much of an effect on his political career as you'd think. Yes, he published the pamphlet about it but he still served in Government circles after that. He never really was interested in being the President either. He had an affair, 'fessed up to it, NEVER used his career to make money for himself (even while supporting 8 kids) AND had a monumental effect on the finances and governmental system of our country. I'd say 1 affair doesn't mean diddley squat when stacked up against that.
And here I thought the reference was to getting himself killed by Vice President Aaron Burr. Burr got frustrated Hamilton kept running for the same offices he was running for, including VP and then Gov of New York.
Thanks for the reminder to re-watch the episode of Drunk History about this.
Henry Ruggs III, first round pick in the NFL. Racing his corvette through Vegas at 3 in the morning he crashed at 160 MPH and [ended] a woman and her dog. He was one of the top prospects in the game, 24 years old now he’s going to spend 3-10 years in jail, lose out on any and all NFL hopes and dreams. He only made it 2 seasons in the league before essentially ruining his life.
Only 3-10 years for murdering a woman and her dog. He acted like an entitled brat racing a car and managed to destroy a family. 3-10 is a joke.
Her name was TIna Tintor and her dog's name was Max. She was 23 and driving home late at night on Rainbow Blvd when her car was struck by Ruggs, who had a BAL over twice the legal limit and was speeding in a 45mph, The impact was so great, Tina and Max were trapped in the car when it caught on fire and she couldn't get out. She didn't die as a result of the impact, but something much more horrible. There is a mural dedicated to Tina and Max on Rainbow (you can Google it to see it). Ruggs is now trash in Vegas. He should be put away for much longer. This city will never forgive him.
This is what happens when someone grows up poor, and then someone throws a bunch of money at them
Henry Ruggs III doesn't deserve to live after what he did to that poor woman and her dog. She survived for 10 or 20 minutes stuck in here burning car before being incinerated alive while Ruggs sat on a curb blubbering over his wrecked Corvette. Burn in hell, Ruggs.
I saw videos of that wreck on YouTube and how he acted afterwards, he deserved much more then 3-10 years. He got off really damn lightly compared to what he did to that poor woman and her dog and the s**t he tried to pull post accident.
Good. He earned both opportunities. How he cab be someones biltch and be accountable
Justin Roiland had a popular show (Rick & Morty) and while its quality (and maybe ratings I dunno) were waning, he had a guaranteed paycheck for a few more years, plus reruns, merch, whatever else, etc
All he had to do was not be a creepy piece of s**t.
Evil people cant stop themself proving they are evil. 2023 womens football winning team spain had to endure a spanish official who assaulted a player on tv. Kissed her cradling her head so she had no choice. Few are held accountable. Trump bragged about assaulting women and nothing serious came of it.
You are so right! Not only did trump brag about it... but after bragging about it, he became the president! Trump Access Hollywood tape came out BEFORE the election. It's starting to feel like he will soon be held to account.... I can only hope anyway.
Load More Replies...When the accusations came out, he immediately claimed innocence and said it was just a bitter ex trying to destroy his career and reputation. A judge later dismissed all charges against him due to a COMPLETE AND TOTAL LACK OF ANY EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER. Despite this, his career and reputation are still in shambles. The MeToo era needed to happen; it was long overdue. However, ending on "believe women" was a stupid decision. It should be "actually listen to women" instead of just ignoring their concerns like we used to. Jumping straight to always believing them is asinine, and is only going to damage the credibility of people making genuine claims.
Yet another person found not guilty. Kinda seems like it's almost become a convenient way to get rid of people you just don't like.
Mickey Rourke was pretty much the next James Dean of the 80's. Just hit after hit, women loved him, guys wanted to be him. Then he decided to try boxing and his face got pulverized, Bad plastic surgery followed, and he had issues with the press. The Wrestler was amazing, but the big comeback sort of fizzed out after that.
Seems like a cool and interesting guy, but he could have been royalty if not for a couple of bad decisions.

Meanwhile, the majority of humanity can't get through the day without a drink or three, the US has become so hopeless fat that it's just decided to bully everyone with the very mature tactic of "i'm not the one with the problem, YOU ARE!" Everyone just blindly accepts those things, but everything else is somehow "immoral" you're shamed, attacked, threatened with prison, which makes whatever underlying issue that motivated the substance use in the first place, to intensify....which makes you retreat further into the drugs. Every aspect of society encourages people to hide drug use, which causes you to get really good at doing so. Which inevitably, for many people causes it to become a problem they often cannot shake. Stop looking at it as "someone harming themselves" and consider that YOU, are the one doing the most harm. Telling people to just say no, absolves you of having to deal with it, it doesn't actually achieve anything.
That's about the truest thing in that regard I've read here in a long time. Substance use and abuse, in and by themselves, don't carry any ethical wrongness. A lot of smugglery does (like implanting cocaine in life animals, and removing it afterwards ... the removal surgery often is deadly), and the entire situation is definately effed up big time. "Hey, let's prescribe a shidload of opioides to everybody and their Grandma!" being changed to "No more of that for you, gotta stop immediately because I might lose my license because I handed out Oxycodone like they're candy!" will not fail in sending people elsewhere, only making it worse and worse. If we'd accept the fact that substance abuse ALWAYS has underlying issues, and is not a sign of ethical failure, if we'd focus on effect as opposed to on effort, like it is currently, we'd already make a great leap forward in a non-Maoian way. But, as is today, it seems like displaying it as moral failure that implies a weak, selfish character, which still IS the societal standard viewpoint, is easier, and it justifies the law-and-order'ists tendency to counter undesired stuff with draconic punishment. They'd rather see two junkies dead and two in prison than even one in hospital or simply outside of jail. Jail won't improve anything there, but force you to a cold withdrawal that only succeeds because the lack of drugs doesn't allow to maintain usage. First day out, first shot in. I've seen how street drugs devestate people ... and I've seen, and personally known, one of the "hopeless addicts" that were given actual heroin in a study in germany 20 years or so ago. I'm not sure how it played out, but as long as the study was running, the people who were given heroin (clean, made by a medicine company, under the circumstances you'd expect - and not some unprofessional lab), including the one I knew then, could lead a life that barely is any different than that of non-addicts. She died in a car accident, not caused by herself, but from being homeless and, basically, left to rot until she'd have died, she recovered in every regard you can imagine - every single one but the habit of using heroin. This study, and the treatment the addicts received, should have been the last evidence to make it a gamechanger! But ... at least, it isn't as standard as it should be, because the goal is not making life better, but sobriety and sobriety alone. Maybe even that is not the right goal for everybody, for sure it isn't the right - or even realistic - goal for everyone at every time. What do I know, I tried heroin only once, sniffed it to prevent someone very dear, but very damaged (physically as well) from taking it, because they might not have been able to take the damage. But I was, so ... in with it, I've done dumber things for worse reasons. Tbh, it was a disappointment in each and every regard. Snorted it. Fel horrible, snorting stuff is disgusting anyway, ... but, that's not all, even the ligher opioides that don't need the special narcotics prescription (germany, may be handled differently elsewhere) are more effective in regard to euphoria, because the quality of that street-sold stuff is varying and generally low. Today, the issue with mixed-in fentanyl derivatives makes it even more dangerous, so ... whatever we as a society do about drugs, the first and overdue step would be to readjust the goal of it. Everybody being a saint of sobriety, obviously, isn't achievable, nor is it even justified.
Load More Replies...On the list of Elvis, Sid Barret, Jimi Hendrix, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain and many more I'm sure. Great talent that was ruined in one or another by drugs.
Career changing mistakes? Weiland was an addict when they recorded Core, and died an addict. He was amazing regardless. In the words of Bill Hicks "if you don't think drugs have done any good, take all your albums and burn them". I'm not defending him or druggies, but he never changed. Still love STP though.
My dad struggled with addiction so everytime they would say they found a body in the town he stayed I would always pray it wasn't him. Liver cancer ended up being what was his end
Brett Butler. She blew herself up pretty good in the 90s

Dunno if he counts as "famous" but... for a BREAKING NEWS scandal, how about Justin Sane, lead singer of Anti-Flag, a well-established (since 1988) punk band. For 35 years Sane's stage persona was of a militantly progressive singer, especially on women's issues. One of their songs is “Feminism Is for Everybody”, and Sane was a VERY vocal supporter of the #MeToo movement.
Except *Rolling Stone* just published [a long story](https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/anti-flag-justin-sane-1234817170/) in which 13 women accuse him of violent sexual assault. Many were in high school at the time. One was 12.
When the rest of the band heard the news they immediately broke up and released a statement saying something like "this isn't the guy we thought we knew for 35 years". I'm not sure I believe that. The *Rolling Stone* piece mentions a couple times when the band *had* to know. For instance, Sane once (allegedly) took a girl to a shed behind a venue, and the rest of the band were (supposedly) making "where's Justin?" jokes, as if they knew.
I mean, credit to the rest of Anti-Flag for quickly disassociating and condemning his actions rather than taking the "he never acted that way with us, so he's a great guy" (like friends of Danny Masterson)
But they didn't condemn him until his behavior became public. But, they didn't condemn him until the behavior became public.
Load More Replies...Saw them in concert once (not headliners at the time), they staged a fight in the crowd between a security guard and a fan. Then Sane jumps from the stage and attacks the security guard then proceeds to get back up on the stage and gives a 25 minute speech to the crowd about how we all have to be a family so we can fight the man. Biggest bunch of posers I've ever seen.
Same thing with Moxy Fruvous in Canada and former member Jian Ghomeshi. After the story of his violence against women came out, the band released a statement claiming they'd had no idea. B******t. I knew them in their heyday and while I didn't know why, even I was creeped out by him. There were venues that wouldn't let female servers into the green room because of him - people knew. There was no way the guys spending months in a van with him for years didn't.
Well, to play devils advocate, if I'm reading correctly, were from high school, maybe he went thru some stuff and it changed him. Does excuse what he did, but like oh so many of us, people change from who they were as kids. Maybe something similar happened to someone in his life and it put it in perspective. I'm not condoning what he did in any way, I'm just saying that his persona on stage may have been his attempt to right his own wrongs and try to help moving forward. Just a thought...
They were in high school. He wasn't. One of them was a 12 year old child. You might want to think again.

The richest man in Ireland, Sean Quinn, lost everything today. A series of unsuccessful investments, tax evasion, led Quinn to court. Today, the former billionaire is completely bankrupt, and contempt of court has been added to the charges. A lot of people hate Sean. Three years ago, his former manager was even kidnapped and beaten, but the perpetrators were never found. Perhaps the former depositors of his bank who lost their funds are involved here, perhaps other investors.
They did get them in prison now. He was tortured, finger nails pulled, broke his chins with a metal bar and poured bleach and salt in his wounds, branded him and then dumped him on the side of the road. So much hatred in the community after what happened. And don't worry Sean is still in his mansion on the hill while normal folk lost everything.
Yeah, many tend to forget that 'bankrupt' doesn't not always equal 'poor' or 'literally no money at all'.
