I Photographed Exorcism Rituals In Ethiopia
64Kviews
My name is David Tesinsky and I came to Ethiopia to find real exorcism rituals and it took me a while just to find one. I just earned some money, got a cheap flight ticket, found some contacts and I found myself in Addis Ababa. People were not really great in the beginning, I almost got robbed in a slum area where I supposed to stay overnight but in the end, there was just a big bloody fight between other two guys.
However finding such exorcism ritual took me many days of waking up around 4-5AM and visiting churches in hope there with be such possessed “client” who will also allow me to photograph it which wasn’t very real. After almost 2 weeks I found a place not too far from Addis Ababa where the ritual took place and with more than 150 people waiting for their turn to get to a priest Memehir.
People were crying, screaming, Memehir punched them and the question is if they felt better based on their fate or not because Memehir was actually thrown away from all the churches because he earned more money than the church itself. He kept asking for the money all the time, one very old woman gave him 100$ and he always wanted more even though 100$ is probably all she is able to earn in one month.

The human psyche is an incredible thing, as most people here genuinely believe there is something wrong with them. This may seem like something that could only happen in underdeveloped countries but it still happens in the western world. Sadly, people that will take advantage of this have no shame. I wonder how long it will be until the whole world stops believing in this nonsense. On a side note - the photos are great photos!
the chances are the majority of those people DO have something wrong with them but its more likely medical than mystical. and yes this priest or whatever is taking advantage of peoples beliefs and fears to make a profit. this kind of thing happens all over the world but everyone is entitled to their beliefs so long as it isnt to harm others. and until we are 100% sure of everything in the universe nothing is "nonsense".
I have nothing against personal beliefs, as long it isn't hurting anyone or you aren't trying to force your belief on others with fear, as this man is. Belief can be a comforting thing, and while I don't believe any preaching is correct, I would never say there isn't a being out there that we can't even fathom. I think there are plenty of things we may not be able to explain. However, when medicine and scientific proof is available to explain something, it is nonsensical to continue being treating people for possessions rather than help them. Without this desire for improvement, and acceptance of proof over tradition, we would still be burning people at the stakes, leeches would still be used as cures etc. I would feel confident in saying that Zeus turning into a cloud in order to impregnate someone could now be considered 'nonsense', although I'm sure a lot of people believed it at the time :)
If people are led to believe that they should use their money on exercists rather than spending it on actual medicine that might help, then it is, in fact, hurting somebody.

because you never witness a case that's your judging by the photos.
I've actually been quite interested in in for a while. Most cases in the past where people throught others were posessed, when our psychology was not developed, can now be diagnosed. In most cases schizophrenia was considered being 'posessed' by demons and usually resulted in people being more tortured than taken care of. I believe that people can be manipulated to believe almost anything and nurture also plays a huge part in your behavious and belief. So if people grow up being told that bad thoughts are due to demons posessing them, that is how they will behave. Even with phychopaths that could be said are 'evil' generally are in this way because the way their brain is formed. All I see here is a man taking advantage of vulnerable people.

So because you think it's nonsense that means it is...?
What harmful bullshit when people should be getting legitimate medical help.
In that part of the world, there's probably no such thing. There parts of the world where treating an infection by washing it in water is such an exotic treatment that someone has to travel for a day by bicycle to do it. And some of those places are very close to where these photos were taken. Don't imagine that everyone has the same access to medical resources as you do.
Oh, I don't, but the western countries should help a bit in my opinion, especially since they were the ones to introduce stuff like Christianity in the first place.
Well not only that but African countries have been suffering another issue: outdated medications. Some people died or got badly injured after taking medication sent by support reliefs, because the medication was outdated, and it broke their trust in western medication. This is especially true in countries that are riddled with terrorism, like Ethiopia, or plagues, like western countries in Africa.
It's funny how atheists never become possessed. One would think they would be easy targets.
