Are you an evil supervillain? Are you looking for a new lair? Then check out this list of diabolical-looking buildings for some seriously sinister inspiration. They might look like dodgy dens from a James Bond movie, but they're actually a bunch of awesomely creative, non-nefarious structures from around the world. Compiled by Bored Panda, and greatly inspired by /r/evilbuildings, the list contains everything from a dancing house in Prague and a train station in Lyon to a congress centre in Hangzhou and a research institute in Berlin. You're sure to find some great design ideas, even if you're not a scheming supervillain. Don't forget to vote for the best!

Buzludzha, Bulgaria
^^ ...with Tony Stark totally wasted wearing the Iron Man armour X)
Load More Replies...Located on top of the mountain is an old monument of the communist regime in Bulgaria no longer used.
Thank you, I wish BP would at last bother to state what it was before... wish it could be rehabbed for some new use.
Load More Replies...It is a communist monument, so yeah, it has something to do with villains....
The light coming through the roof makes the remains look magical.
Philadelphia City Hall, Philadelphia, USA
Saved from the Urban Renewal wrecking ball in the 1950s because it's too solidly built, with walls up to 22' thick.
Saved from the wrecking ball of Urban Renewal in the 50s because it was too solidly built, with walls up to 22' thick at the base.
It is a beautiful building and it does not look exactly like that at night it was photoshopped some@ I lived here in Philly for 47 u yrs and it is a historical building so of course it will look different compared to the newer buildings .In fact many buildings are historical around there.Center City has a lot of colonial times buildings.Besty Ross's house and more plus a old colonial cemetery they say a lot of haunted places too!!!
I've seen it, and I like it so much. And I'm from Europe, I'm kinda used to see old historical places all over me. I loved Philly.

Mahanakhon Tower, Bangkok, Thailand
The building's "pixelated" appearance gives the impression like it's falling apart
This doesn't look super evil, it's architecture is just amazing and unique in my eyes.
clearly there are 2 types of bored panda commenters.
Load More Replies...Polygone Riviera, France
This building is located in a open air French mall, divided into four districts (Home & Garden, Lifestyle, Premium, and The Designer Gallery). The 22 meter (72 ft.) building itself is titled “Guetteur” which translated to English means "the lookout".
Question is- Why is there a face in the middle of the building? why? :|

It's a middle finger intended to Superman, because they're clearly storing kryptonite inside.

Load More Replies...This one looks like a castle that could be part of disneyland or something. It looks a bit evil but mostly harmless and secretly nice.
It's funny you say that, I was getting mini putt vibes.
Load More Replies...Yes, it’s a strange looking building, but mind that this is a church, place of God, place of worship, home of prayers. ’You may say I’m a dreamer’ but I’d like to live in a world where no human races and no religions are being bullied. There was a said and tragic time in history when jewish people and their sacral buildings, the synagogues were first bullied, then hurt, and then we know what happened… (Remember Crystal night, 1938). Please don’t hurt religious people, and their most precious buildings, the churches, synagogues, mosques,... These buildings are not the home of evil, please don’t use them for bad purposes. Peace and love for You!
I would love to believe that people will just stop judging each other for our differences. Yet they do. Every single day there is someone out there who does something evil in the name of their religion or their "God", or their Church. I believe we should all treat each other with decency and respect. Regardless of who we are, what race we are, where we live, how and who we choose to worship. If even just half the people on this planet felt this way there would probably be a lot less violence. I wish you the best my friend. May Peace, Love and Light guide your way.
Load More Replies...Former Research Institute For Experimental Medicine, Berlin, Germany
If there were ever a place to do medicinal experiments.... this would be it. WOW!
It has a look that screams unethical experimentation.

4 meters wide in the front the back is either wider or narrower depending on if the neighbors were there first.
Load More Replies...Looks like something that pops out between the muggle buildings after a little wave of the maqic wand in Harry Potter.
Fort Alexander (Plague Fort), Saint Petersburg, Russia
Everything about this place is sort of creepy. From a stable for laboratory horses to the cremation facility for lab animals, for about 20 years, this place was a research facility for the Plague and other bacterial diseases (hence the name). And even a couple of deaths of two people doing that research.
@yvonne bernal i don't know if you'll ever see this and I definitely don't mean this in a condescending way but you have amazing insights and you should join the team of writers and provide articles as a hobby. I really enjoy your in depth additions.
Load More Replies...Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral, Clermont-Ferrand, France
A little more about our dear Cathedral. It is black because of the Volvic rocks used to built it. These rocks are volcanic rocks which explains the very particular colour. By the way, if you come one day it is possible to go all the way up the cathedral if you don't mind the stairs to have an amazing view of all Clermont-Ferrand and also of the extinct volcanos near Clermont-Fd that constitutes the Chaîne des Puys.
It looks like a scene from Game of Thrones before Cersei "separated the church from state"
Dc Tower I, Vienna, Austria
It would be cool if it could actually change shape, as it looks like it's able to do so.
DC tower, well named. definitely DC and not marvel. much better suited for superman or batman than captain america or ironman. (0% sarcasm. 100% nerdishness.)
If you don't like this, it does other configurations. (Just don't make it angry.)
The National Library Of Belarus, Minsk, Belarus
This building does all sorts of cool lighting designs fc07b762d7...654298.jpg

"We had it just about the way we wanted it, but then the future happened!"
Oakley Headquarters, Foothill Ranch, Lake Forest, USA
Is is literally 2 miles from my house. It has a basketball court and the section of floor from Michael Jordan's last shot in his last. Game. Amazing place.
My immediate thought was: "Stargate!" because the outside seems to hint at an Egyptian influence.
It looks like a building from the movie 'cabin in the woods' where the lifts keep opening up with side of them
Basque Health Department Headquarters In Bilbao, Spain
This one survived some battles involving ice and cristal element attacks....
'I've got an idea! Let's make a health department headquarter that looks like a tumor!' :-D
"Well, we're happy with all the glass, but I guess they had a little problem with the angles."
This is NOT my healthcare facility...looks like they like to inflict pain more than heal!!
Aiguille Du Midi, French Alps
I would love to have this as my "get away from everything" house! Not that I am evil... Much... :))
Yes, this is it! Spectre's next starter home. All it needs is coat of paint, a couple of gun emplacements, a 50 kw reactor, and it's "So good to see you again, Mr, Bond." time again.
Whoever the general contractor was on this project must be quite wealthy now!!
It's in the Swiss alps not French. Dent du midi is in Valais which is close from where I am from.
Nvm didn't see that it was aiguille du midi in Mont Blanc and not dem du midi ;)
Load More Replies...anything built on top of the mountain should be the lair of an evil villain
Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi, UAE
I have to say that this one doesn't look like a pretty building, at least from up above. But it's big and shiny, works for supervillains for sure.
Ok, this is getting ridiculous. This exists? They let it happen? It's like some kind of giant single-cell ego-virus!

Load More Replies...The lightning shots were not all at the same time. It was likely a camera on a roof set on a timer, then when there was a big storm coming they just turned in on and let it record. Then when you compile all the shots you can get this image. Looks pretty awesome and it makes that building look like an alien landing ship
Reminds me of that scene in Austin Powers when Dr Evil is in the Starbucks tower
Ryugyong Hotel, Pyongyang, North Korea
Every time I see a picture of this I wonder how long until trump has his name on it.
Load More Replies...that just looks like something you would find in North Korea... am I right?
According to Wikipedia it was started in 1987 but it's still not been opened.
North Korea? Are you sure there are no evil villains there plotting heinous acts from here?

Nakagin Capsule Tower, Tokyo, Japan
It was originally designed as a Capsule Hotel to provide economical housing for businessmen working late in central Tokyo during the week. The one-man-room capsule, a modified (4 x 2.5 meter) shipping container, has one circular window, a built-in bed and bathroom unit. It also has a TV, radio and alarm clock

This one got Jeff Bezos fired 🍖🍖🍖🍖 (food stamps + short ribs + vultures)
The Bank Of America Center, Houston, USA
Real evil does take place there. Specifically, how to repeatedly run a world-wide economic scam to defraud poor people of their investments while enriching the upper class.
Load More Replies...I wonder how long it's been there. I'm from Houston, but I moved away about 25 or so years ago. It looks too big and too creepy. Good reasons for never going back.
Al Tijaria Tower, Kuwait City, Kuwait
Cologne Central Mosque, Cologne, Germany
This one looks like something I can reduce to a compact size and put in my pocket.
Yes a transformer building that just squishes together
Load More Replies...And it's a never ending construction. They started building it in November of 2009 and it's still not finished
That's not so bad when you compare it to Gaudi's Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona. They started that in 1882 and it's *still* not finished. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagrada_Fam%C3%ADlia
Load More Replies...Wow, it's such an interesting idea to mix modern middle east style mosque architecture and european modernisn 👍

If that' a privat home I bet they have hefty arguments about who has to take out the trash. (Ok, I guess they'll have a housekeeper for that, but still...)
Space Museum, Vancouver, Canada
Nothing. It's called the Norris crab statue. It was a work commissioned by the city by a local sculptor. He has statues all over Vancouver.
Load More Replies...Standing more than six metres tall, the stainless steel crab was a gift from the women of the Vancouver Centennial Committee to celebrate Canada's 100th birthday. According to Haida legend, the crab is the guardian of the entrance to the harbour.
Chongqing Art Museum, Chongqing Shi, China
Omv Borealis Refinery, On The German/Austrian Frontier
Science And Technology Centre, Pyongyang, North Korea
It only looks evil because we know the money for it comes out of the peoples' stomachs.
For a country that can't light, heat and feed its people Kim Jong Grunt sure has a lot of money for building things.
Yes. No food for their ppl though. Or clean water, electricity, freedoms, or just about anything we in the West take for granted!
Load More Replies...Wow! This gives me reasons to wanting to visit there! Such a paradox, though... To me N. Korea is so near, yet so far away due to its limited accessibility.
Limited accessibility?!? Really!? You do know that they're a Communist Dictatorship, right? That they've closed themselves off from the rest of the world and they want to NUKE the rest of the world, right?

Svalbard Global Seed Vault (Seed Bank), Spitsbergen, Norway
And this is meant to store food for the world in case something apocalyptic happens like a huge world war or something. Certainly looks suiting for it!
No not food. It stores seeds, to grow plants from in case they are made extinct, or we all blow each other up and have to start again!

Graz Art Museum, Graz, Austria
No it's actually a sound installation. A gentle bell-like hum slowly increases in intensity and volume over the course of an hour an then cuts out suddenly. It's intended to make the passerbys aware of the sudden *lack* of sound.

Atomium, Brussels, Belgium
It was actually built as an attraction for the Brussels 1958 Worlds Fair, *The Expo 58*. I've visited this place a few years back, and it certainly feels a lot like a ride, going up & up the escalators to get the spheres that were open for visits. :)
I had fun there visiting also, and definitely could be villain layer, secured totally and confusing to trespassers :)
