Long story short, the guy telling the story is a straight white male, and was afraid of being viewed as homophobic. At an art exhibit, he lost track of his wife and reached out blindly to grab her hand, thinking she was standing next to him. Instead, a stranger (a man) was standing next to him, and OP grabbed the stranger's hand. Both were too afraid of being seen as homophobic if they made a scene about holding hands as two men. So they just kept holding hands the whole time. Later on, OP and the stranger seem to now be dating/in a relationship :) It's wholesome and the implication is that OP isn't as straight as he may have thought he was, and love is love XD
