30Kviews
This amazing church is located at Samarina, Greece, built in 1812. It is devoted to Virgin Mary and every year on the 15th of August a great celebration takes place in the village gathering visitors from all over the country.
At some point a small pine tree grew inside the church’s temple and now it comes magnificently out of the roof! The tree is over 100 years old.
Samarina is a mountainous village of the Grevena district, one of the highest villages of Europe, built at around 1600m (5250ft) altitude. It is also known as the largest village in Greece and every summer it is full of locals and visitors. Its surroundings and landscapes are perfect for fans of mountains, forests and natural beauties.
Google maps coordinates for Samarina: 40.1045001,21.013706.

Thomas, I love all of your articles that show the beauty of Greece. Keep up the good work. No political correctness here, and that's wonderful. Thank you so much. ;D 👍
Thank you so much John!
Again in Greece, there is another church, more popular than this, where trees grow from and around the roof. The village is called Vastas and it's in Peloponnese peninsula. 95349916-5...df03b6.jpg
Know about that, you are right it is very popular. Thank you Angie!
more stuff like this... less of the snowflake, politics crap.
Being with nature is all we need!
tree of life :)
Love it. There is one tree very similar in a monastery in Egypt. My uncle is a monk there and i got to see it. Apoarently it was the staff that the original monk that built the monastery had. He planted it in the soil and it grew into this incredible tree in the middle of the desert.
Share a photo if you can Kerolos :)
That's so cool!! I just wish there were some pictures taken from the inside of the building out.
I'm unable to load a pic. It's called the tree of Saint Ephraim.
beautiful place
Very cool.
I wonder what it looks like from the inside
You didn't find shit. It was there for 100 years, with people living next to it.
The tree wont be there a long time...it has a pine disease :(
Thank goodness you found that tree. Otherwise, all the people who go there all the time wouldn't be able to find it
trees live longer than most people happy mindfuck wednesday
