Packaging, packaging, PACKAGING! Ugh, it gets on our nerves so much when companies use far too much packaging for their products. ‘Excessive’ doesn’t even cut it when you look at all the plastic, paper, and bubble wrap needed for a single tiny thing. Meanwhile, the Environment’s sitting in the corner, weeping, wondering what it did wrong to deserve this and why companies don’t change their outdated business models.
Some packaging is so horrifyingly unnecessary, it gets shamed on the r/EgregiousPackaging subreddit, a place that shows that excess is far from the positive thing that some customers are led to believe. Scroll down to see the very worst offenders and let us know in the comments what the very worst example was that you’ve seen with your own two eyes, Pandas.
When you’re done with this list, you can find more fuel for your outrage by reading these two Bored Panda articles about excessive packaging right here, as well as here.

My Friend Ordered Earrings From Fabfitfun. Just Earrings
Hey, at least they didn't try to fill the space with unnecessary plastic
If it's similar to how it is over here: they don't. During secondary school I used to work for a company that did mobile phone wholesale (I think, I'm not native so not exactly sure if it's the right word, but we basically had a warehouse full of mobiles, chargers, gadgets etc and send them out both to companies as well as individuals). The company had a "flatrate contract" with two parcel services, so no matter how many boxes we sent out in one day, they'd pay the same.
Load More Replies...I agree that it is a wasteful way to send an item but I wonder if it helps to reduce theft and loss? In that a small box may suggest that the contents are valuable and it would be easy to steal instead of deliver. Also a smaller package is more likely to get lost than a big package?
Sephora At It Again For A .05oz Concealer
What’s crazy about this is that they have to pay for that extra large amount of packaging not only is the packaging cutting the money but so is the size of the packaging. SMH
This also takes up space on a plane/truck that could be used to transport something else!
Load More Replies...They are as bad as Amazon. When I reviewed an item which I’d received from Amazon over-packaged, they refused to publish my review because it contained criticism of Amazon!
You think that's bad, When I get my Ford Part’s order for a 1 X 3/8 inch bolt and it comes in a box that is 3ft long 2ft high and 1.5ft wide that has Ford is doing it's part to recycle stamped on said box. Complete waste when they could have shipped it out in a FedEx extra small envelope instead. This happens multiple times a week. It infuriates me every single time.
Ordered Biodegradable Bamboo Toothbrushes From A Zero Waste Store - Came In 100% Non-Degradable Bubble Wrap And Plastic Bags
This makes me wonder if they do their own packing or if they use a third party.
They may have just reused some packaging one of their suppliers sent them to save it going into landfill
More like these companies lie about everything. They all lie. Lie about prices, lie about being environmentally friendly, lie about anything and everything to get us to buy stuff we truly don't even need in the 1st place. Honestly these companies are only half of the problem. It's us the consumer steadily buying this stuff up that is the other half of the problem. It won't stop until we realize most of this stuff is materialistic and we don't need it to exist and live. These companies know our weaknesses more than we do. It's true, I'm afraid.
Load More Replies...This is probably a case of drop-shipping where it’s not actually the company sending it to you. I hope so anyway. Cos that is counterproductive, folks.
The r/EgregiousPackaging online community is fairly new. Founded in early 2019, it will be celebrating its 3rd birthday on January 16, 2022. In that time, the group has grown to 16.3k.
A while back, I spoke to four experts about packaging, plastic, business, and recycling. They went in-depth with Bored Panda about the reasons why companies actually focus on having more packaging than we might think is necessary, and highlighted what we as consumers can do to affect their decision-making process.
Graham Forbes, Greenpeace's Global Project Leader for the Plastic-Free-Future, told Bored Panda that companies have convinced people that they can use something once, for a few minutes, and then simply throw it away. “The problem is, we know now that there is no such thing as ‘away,’” he said.
Not Sure If This Counts, But This Is For Only Three Things At CVS
Could maybe toilet paper - in a pinch, whoops in a paper cut!
Load More Replies...They are but it is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of. I am a CVS customer care card member, shouldn’t they just put all those coupons on my card?! Also for anyone wondering you can put to get all your receipts digital.
Load More Replies...Nope. But when we had the toilet paper shortage at the beginning of the pandemic, those receipts were a life saver.
Load More Replies...Whenever I go, I grab on to the end as it starts printing and I slowly back up as it keeps coming.
Everyone knows the distance from the earth to the moon is about 7 and a half CVS receipts.

Not only stupid but really pointless too!I'm trying to think for one reason why this is necessary and i fail
Load More Replies...That is not a container for the can - it's the marinading dish. This is a coca-cola meat marinading kit. Saw these in China, packed the same way.
Thank you. Came to explain this one too.
Load More Replies...Just because it's different, doesn't always mean it's stupid. People in different countries, cultures, etc can do things differently also. And so many people have also pointed out that this is a marinating kit for meat.
Everyone knows wrapping your coke can in cellophane helps keep it fresh. Come on guys.
Could be meant as a deterrent to rolling and creating an unexpected overflow of foam when opened.
[screw] Drinking Straws - This Is The Kind Of Plastic Use We Should Be Protesting
Naw, blame the consumer, a lot easier than accept respinsibility..
Load More Replies...1 turtle gets a straw up its nose and now everyone seems to think stoping using plastic straws will save the world. Its not like 10% of ocean pollution is microplastics, pieces so tiny some cant be seen with the naked eye, or that the textile industry is one of the biggest polluters. The straw thing is like conserving water by shutting off the tap while brushing your teeth. Honestly trying to reduce single use plastics isnt bad in and of itself, the problem is that people go "ok i no longer use plastic straws so now i feel like im making a difference and wont worry about it further" its a feel good solution that doesent actually have a big benefit overall. For waste reduction to be effective it has to be comprehensive, starting from the manufacturers. And yeah, if you wanna tackle 1 individual product, plastic bags are the way to go not straws.
Paper straws are trash with their own environmental implications anyway. I use plastic straws when I need to but I also have glass ones I try to use. It’s fine. I think people should do what they can but in a practical way. Being vegan is a bigger deal for the environment than anything else I could do and I’ll be damned if I let some omnivore tell me shít about a straw tbh.
Load More Replies...This is recyclable in my town. It would definitely be better for shippers not to use so much plastic to begin with. But definitely consider pushing your local recycling agency to collect this stuff, too.
If you are worried about the environment enough to complain about packaging, maybe stop buying stupid unnecessaty stuff! Nobody needs those plastic five dollar earrings, which are probably full of harmful chemicals.
Honestly to my mind ordering s**t online to prevent environmental pollution and saving the world is the complete opposite of preventing environmental pollution and saving the world. I bet most of this stuff is produces in the far east, shipped by enourmous ships over the oceans, then shipped by trucks over endless highways and autobahns, put into a big storage unit, then sold online (amazon?), wrapped into plastic and sh**t and moved around by trucks from other shipping companies to end up at your home... does anyone think this is environmental friendly?
That's the same situation if you buy from brick-&-mortar. The only difference is the last leg.
Load More Replies...“Less than 10 percent of the plastic waste ever made has actually been recycled, with the vast majority ending up in our oceans, landfills, or incinerated—polluting communities around the globe,” Forbes, from Greenpeace, warned.
“Companies are still stuck in this outdated business model that uses unnecessary packaging and puts the onus on the consumer to clean it up. It is up to all of us to demand accountability from these companies that continue to churn out throwaway plastic. It's time to demand systems of reuse rather than polluting throwaway packaging,” he said.
Matryoshka Allergy Relief
For one?! You can buy boxes of 20 where I am and don't use that much packaging.
Over packaging is due to product tampering in 1982. Some guy poisoned Tylenol on the shelves by simply opening the lid. Thanks to him things are ridiculously over packaged today. Just like there was no TSA before terrorists attacked airplanes.
Plastic Packaging For A Cd Disk......but Without A Cd Disk In It
I love physical media because you can truly say you "own" something - you can hold it in your hand. With Steam, you just pay for the right to use a game that is located miles away, on some server.
Load More Replies...This isn't a terrible idea if they're repurposed DVD boxes. If they're made fresh it's a huge waste. Then again, you wouldn't have much need for the box after opening it this way round either
Honestly I think these were probably preordered cases and then they went digital... What do you do with all of those f*****g cases. Kind of clever but should have been recycled instead of upcycled in this case.
yep they are trying to placate the shopper...it's not working!
They made you perform an act of God getting the case out of its wrapping just to tell you it's online?
Just Why?
Umm did they touch the masks to package them like this? Because if they touched the mask to put it in the packaging then its pointless because they are contaminated
Are those........meat packing....trays...?!! That is gross! And a waste of saran wrap too! Also, now they are not sterile, as they have been touched by someone who placed them into those trays. Wow. Talk about how stupid this idea is.
I moved to a rural US state from a progressive state. Every single place uses styrofoam for take out, even the Chinese restaurant. I hadn't seen styrofoam in years.
They use them here in Rotterdam, the Netherlands alot too. To be honest I buy them to, to give left over food home to people after a party.
Load More Replies...How/Why are these $1? What is happening? This blue style if free everywhere by me. (Wales UK) People buy masks by choice because of comfort/fashion/environment - but the boxes of these blue ones are everywhere i go. (all though i was suprised recently not to see them in a train station, which i thought was odd - what if you sneeze and dont have spare)
Maybe this is an old picture, from when they were scarce? Where I live (Northeast US), places that ask you to wear one usually at least *say* they have free ones, although the dispensers are often empty.
Load More Replies...Eww, because a staff member would have had to touch them to package them like that
Normal surgical masks are free in every store I've been to- it's only the patterned ones or the fabric ones that you buy.
Free??? Really??? I've never seen them free anywhere but usually it's just cents where i go
Load More Replies...“By utilizing reusable bottles, bags, or containers, we can start to build the systems that we want to see from large companies. Ultimately, large-scale systemic change will depend on companies like Nestle, Coca-Cola, and PepsiCo changing their business models to reject throwaway plastic packaging. By rejecting throwaway culture, we can move them in a better direction quickly,” Forbes explained to Bored Panda.
Meanwhile, Kara Pochiro from the Association of Plastic Recyclers noted that “packaging often has a variety of uses that the general consumer does not realize such as protection and preservation.” In short, there are clear reasons why companies add a lot of packaging that we might find egregiously excessive. However, this doesn’t mean that we can’t change how companies operate. By changing our spending habits, we can affect the business models that corporations go for.

Yep - who gives a plastic wrap if a sponge gets wet!
Load More Replies...We (most of us) are trying to stop using plastic, start being more conscious of the environment and then the company does this. Sooooo they sell it without themselves being aware of the pollution and ... I'm angry. Need coffee.

Why not make paper wrapped fish the standard if you love the oceans so much. Or, even better idea, go out of business because fishing isn't good for the ocean
Chocolate Air
This is why I don't eat store bought cherry cordials anymore.
Load More Replies...I'm sorry but this is something you can see and usually you know how many chocolates are inside cause it's written! All this type is sold like this (don't mean that i agree) but if you don't agree don't buy this type
It's about all the wasted plastic, not the amount of chocolates.
Load More Replies...I see what they did there (with the title). This is sad, but typical of chocolates, and you could make a reasonable argument that the container to product size isn't that egregious compared to even just normal stuff like juice boxes or blister wrap. Sometimes that plastic is probably compostable PLA too, though I wish they would label it better.
This one isn't dumb. Like they have to be separated so they aren't damaged in transport. It's better than individually wrapped. As far as packaging goes, this isn't the worst. You literally need to have space in the products.
I ordered similar candy from a school fundraiser. Now I no longer do because of this
Chipotle's "Fruit Cup"
That orange / tangerine already has a natural protection. It's called peel. Fu*k.
just said the same to my wife . who thinks of these things ?? they are so wasteful < plus it costs the company money it does not need to spend ?? it baffles me why they do these things
Load More Replies...gee whiz... if only there were some organic, biodegradable covering that could be used to keep the fruit fresh and clean...oh... wait...
Well it am a fruit and its in a cup - with this way of thinking I'm suprised they can spell the company name!
Where is this? I’m just curious because I’ve never seen a fruit cup at chipotle on offer
The CEO of Plastics for Change, Andrew Almack highlighted the fact that getting rid of plastics in packaging would require a lot of effort on the part of companies.
“Removing unnecessary plastic requires companies to redefine their supply chain. They have to do RnD while keeping in mind challenges like the visual appeal of product packaging, the durability of alternatives, sustained supply of alternatives, costing, and manufacturing,” he told Bored Panda that this may be part of the reason why some companies don’t make the switch.
An Office Supply Company Bubble-Wrapped Their Bubble Wrap
This hurts my heart to see… the unfortunate waste that shipping causes! So like when you order from Amazon, etc. instead of going to a store to shop, there’s more shipping waste that happens. Stores get pallets of items in and stock the shelves. So it’s only 1 box of a certain item that has a quality to it, you pick it up and take it to the register and say for it. But when you order something it has to be boxes and bubble wrapped… 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Load More Replies...I'm an eBay seller, and this would be fine with me. Those air pillows (yes, that's actually what they're called) are reusable, you know.
Same! Those are super valuable for me when I ship cookies. Saves me money and they are soooo much more effective than bubble wrap.
Load More Replies...This makes sense. If they were going to sell the bubble wrapped bubble wrap then it makes sense to protect the bubble from popping before it got to thier customer
So if you wanted to buy the big pocket bubble wrap would it be protected by the tiny pocket bubble wrap?
Don't pop those unless your wearing a mask. They are filled with air that could be contaminated.
Ordered 27 Books From Amazon On A Single Order. Got 27 Boxes With 1 Book Each Delivered
I always use Better World Books. They donate books and money to prison libraries and child and adult literacy programs. It's what Amazon would look like if it wasn't run by a Bond villain.
Load More Replies...Dont forget there is also an option before checking out to get fewer deliveries in fewer boxes. Just because its in the same order doesnt mean its coming from the same place.
The few times I buy from Amazon I always choose the option to make as few delivery as possible, even if it means to wait for longer. And every time they split the orders in multiple shipments. Like...why?!
Load More Replies...Weird as amazon consistently sends books in appropriate-sized envelopes, otherwise. Maybe some bundling-into-boxes thing gone wrong?
There's an option to get everything shipped in the same box/shipment, but apparently this person chose the "ship everything individually" option.
THIS IS THE BUYERS FAULT. You have the option to have all items shipped together or as they become available. It’s right there on the order confirm page.
Assuming much?! I know of several cases where people ordered several similar items from Amazon in one order, checked the option to group order, and yet the orders were sent out with each individual item separately packaged and shipped - which then all arrived together, once even on the same day! Something is definitely malfunctioning logistically over at Amazon, whether just stupid decisions or else worker sabotage... Either way, I'm boycotting Amazon from now on, they need to start treating their workers decently!
Load More Replies...Although to be fair Amazon does give you an option to get all the orders in one package at a later date....still I would shop local

Individually Wrapped Vegetables In A Vietnamese Supermarket
I once made fun of an individually wrapped strawberry, OH MY GOD the racist things angry asians said to me. I have never seen such a thing.
in a covid context I have to support this because I do not want some stupid antimasker coughing his covids over my groceries.
Maybe, but how many people are washing their hands after unwrapping the covid covered plastic and then just spreading it that way anyhow?
Load More Replies...Before COVID I honestly would’ve complained but since we’ve loosened mask protocol I watched a woman sneeze into her hands outside the Safeway, walk inside, go to the produce section and just touch everything. And it probably never would’ve bothered me before COVID, so I don’t have a problem with this.
I understand the ears of corn - it's to prevent the a-holes who somehow think it's alright to shuck the corn right there and just throw the husks onto the floor. I've seen it in the wild, and the "lady" wasn't doing to check the ears for quality or anything. Just one after the other... shuck, shuck, shuck - corn in the bag, husks on the floor. Shuck that!
Was that USA? They do that where I live, but the stores provide barrels for the shucks. I don't shuck mine because the corn stays fresh longer, and I microwave in the shuck because it's easier than boiling.
Load More Replies...Maybe they just bought a new shrink wrap machine and the guy was excited to play with it.
“It is important for customers to purchase and use products made by businesses that focus on sustainability. When people start buying from eco-friendly businesses, the demand for such goods would increase and ignite other players to cater to this trend which could be done by a simple change in current company policies,” Almack said that customers can be a force for change.
“Being more conscious about our throwaway culture is where one should surely start. Simple changes to eliminate single-use plastic go a long way: avoid gum and plasticware, reuse storage containers and use razors with replaceable blades,” Almack explained what we can do as individuals to help the environment. Every small bit of effort matters, even if it’s the large multinational companies who hold most of the power to affect change.
Really… Amazon…
Amazon is the worst. They intentionally over pack products just to fill up UPS trucks
In the olden days these were called rectal gloves - wonder if name would change packaging procedures - damn forgot it was from Amazon sorry!
Reminds me when I got my EGO Nexus power station. It came in a larger box with air fill. The product box was shipping quality already. The larger box (because not full) got smashed and deformed during delivery; and was awkward to carry because it wasn't balanced at all.
Individually Packaged Slice Of Bread
Usually this packaging is used in catering for safety reasons and food regulations
In Poland a lot of small stores sell bread in slices, so you go to the store, ask for (for example) six slices of bread and lady is putting to the bag the six slices you asked for. Why can't it be just something normal?
This is bread used in foodservice. Helps keep the other slices from being contaminated by one person reaching for one slice.
The company name maybe Mickles, but in my eyes I am lead to thus being taking the MICKEY Of ideas 💡 😆 lol.
Disposable Phone Chargers
I have several that have lasted for more than 5 years. They have a hard time getting recharged in my house, why I have several
Load More Replies...Well it appears that some phone manufacturers are disposing of the charger that you get with your phone. Mine came with a USB-C to USB-C cable. Great. All my existing chargers are USB-A, and I have precisely one USB-C port on my laptop... which is already in use by my docking station. Thankfully I have a wireless charging pad I can use.
A spokesperson from the Alliance to End Plastic Waste stressed the fact that plastic waste is harming our environment and that change needs to happen.
“Everyone agrees: plastic waste does not belong in our oceans, or anywhere in the environment. And despite the many benefits of plastic to health, safety, sustainability, and convenience, plastic waste has become a challenge in parts of the world because it is not managed properly,” they said in an interview with Bored Panda.
Must Have Been Out Of Envelopes
Dude you could have gone to a gas station and bought batteries Edit:I understand that some people might not be able to leave the house to get stuff so it would be better if this came in a smaller box or envelope
I work and live in a farm, far away from shops (and the nearest shops are so damn expensive). Shopping online saved a lot of money and hassle for me.
Load More Replies...it's up to the supplier. I find that amazon seldom bunches orders. It's really annoying. Even if you ask them to, they get back to you and say this or that item isnt available can we ship them all separately.
Load More Replies...The battery has to be boxed with a battery label. It can not go on a bag.
I had to send away for batteries for my Volvo key fob that battery can't be found in any normal shops
I'm beginning to think people in the shipping department get paid by the amount of packing material they use.
I used that same brown paper just today to line the bottom of my kitchen sink cabinet. I also use it for patterns when I sew.
I buy these same batteries in 10 or 12 packs. Always nice to have around and they ship in a simple envelope.
Having two batteries delivered is even worse. The packaging is only paper and cardboard at least.
So I Only Get This Much Actual Cream?
It looks more like a pump bottle that has a plunger moving upwards from the bottom and a dispenser withdrawing the product. This package isn't too ergonomic as there's still plenty of product left when it doesn't have enough pressure to withdraw and also requires lots of plastic and a whole mechanism to dispense
It’s not a pump bottle, it’s Nivea skin energy moisturising face gel for men. It comes in a big jar with a screw cap, for this miserly amount that you get within the false compartment. So that is indeed a destructive example of misleading and excessive packaging.
Load More Replies...Does Ripley's Believe it or Not still exist - if so they must be having a hey-day!
Good luck prying that contraption open to get to the other half of the creme you got. I will say this...it took me half an hour and I had to attack the thing with a pair of plyers.
I'll be in the minority, I'm sure, but eh I'm kind of used to it. This marketing shindig is going on everywhere. You finally think you find some affordable skincare and then you get curious why the ml/oz info doesn't fix the box. You start digging - and there we go! And don't even get me about night creams! Sell a tiny amount of (usually) the same product for a jacked up price? No, thank you.
I love the body shop because a lot of their lotions and creams come in containers where you scoop it out and so you can actually get every last bit and properly wash and recycle it. They've designed their products, as much as possible, to at least be easily recyclable.
Buuut I've also seen quite clever packaging which lets you squeeze every last drop. I think it was some kind of Eisenberg moisturizer - nothing special, mostly basic moisturizer, "are you out of your goddamn mind" price, but the packaging was nice!
Big Box For A Small Bottle With Only Enough Pills To Fill The Cap. Lame
Time to super tax these companies if they don't reduce packaging, and force them to change
Actually this is a fantastic idea. We already have agencies regulating package labeling, should have something that decides the weight of packaging for the weight of certain products. The thing is though, the companies will then pour in a ton of money and effort trying to circumvent that too. Honestly if companies spent half the energy they do on scamming consumers instead on growing their business, wed be living in post scarcity magical space communism by now. Its like that guy who tries so hard to avoid doing work that he spends way more energy than it would have taken just to do the work....
Load More Replies...Come on guys this is not for theft prevention. These boxes are big because per regulations they need to put ingredients, allergy concerns, warnings, poison control stuff, dosage information and other stuff on that box. Imagine the box size of that cap and trying to fit all that information on it.
Nope. Every factor smaller increases the likelihood of the product wandering off. It only hurts the large corporations you say as another small retailer calls it quits. You're all morons who deserve the bleak future that awaits
Load More Replies...It's because of all the warning crap they're required to include with each and every box
Nexium also increases your chance of dementia so you won't care in a while anyway.
Some things like this I can somewhat understand, prescriptions have to have a ton of information on their product packaging but don't want to put so much of the medicine in there to make it too expensive to purchase.
“To help address the challenge in a globally coordinated and transformative way, over 40 companies around the world, from across the plastics value chain—companies that make, use, sell, process, collect and recycle plastics—have joined together with a clear mission: to help end plastic waste in the environment,” they said that some companies do focus on helping the environment. Not everyone’s a villain when it comes to packaging—some choose to be superheroes.

The packaging sometimes hides the poor quality of the product! I needed 1 pepper had to buy 4, 3 were rotten took back to no avail - now I open the packs to examine and take what I need!
I worked at Walmart in apparel and I would have these big ass boxes for like a pair or two of slipper socks, or one purse... It was so infuriating. It wasn't every box but it definitely was constant
“The Alliance to End Plastic Waste has pledged 1.5 billion dollars over the next five years to develop, accelerate and bring to scale solutions to minimize and manage plastic waste, catalyze investment, engage communities and promote solutions including reducing, reusing, recovering, and recycling materials. Alliance efforts will be implemented in a coordinated way with support and resources from both the public and private sectors, facilitating comprehensive, meaningful, and lasting change that will help end plastic waste in the environment.”
When You Run Out Of Small Boxes At The Package Station But If You Go Get More You’re Pack Rate Percentage Will Go Into The Yellow
i think this post just explained a lot of the images on this thread...
When I order a CD from Amazon, it usually arrives with no padding and a broken plastic case, things like Covid masks, books, and other things that don't need padding come full of the stuff. Last week I got two flat pieces of cardboard stuck together with nothing inside. When I went online to find out what had been "delivered", I found that a book was supposed to be in between the two pieces of cardboard. The customer service agent was very nice and asked if I'd like "another" book or a refund. Since I hadn't received the book the first time I thought that was an odd phrasing, but requested that they send the book I'd requested and paid for already. It arrived this time in a box with generous (and unneeded) padding and is excellent, "The Paris Library."
Yeah but, I always pop (if not reuse) the bubbles and recycle the plastic.
Peeled Avocados Wrapped In Plastic
Yeah and then the government and the companies blame the customers that they create so much waste... shame on you, customer! 👹😇
Yes. Because they only make these because ppl buy them.
Load More Replies...I think it makes sense for a peeled avocado, it would go bad otherwise, but why the heck would you sell them in the first place???
These are from a pre-prepped meal service plan, such as Blue Apron....they arent for sale on the grocery shelf like this.
Load More Replies...Things like this are NOT for able body people. Now just think about people who cannot peel and avocado...
If it's properly sealed, but not from going bad. Is it really that wrong to buy a whole avocado (I mean I don't know any single person who would eat avocado as it is) and do some nice spread or smoothie or something? These are expensive (at least in my country), the packaging and processing will probably be even pricier and the plastic is unnecessary. But that's why here, in this topic, aren't we? :-D
Load More Replies...When avocados became trendy here in the UK a few years ago, the incidences of 'avocado related A&E visits' sky-rocketed - people all over the country had no idea how to de-pip or skin avos and ended up slicing themselves 🤦♀️🤣. Maybe this was thought to be a resolution? (I'm not agreeing with the packaging; just saying.)
This will save me the trouble of opening the avocado. Now all I have to do is open the avocado.
I've heard of a revolutionary, biodegradable, organic wrapper for avocados: The exocarp, aka the peels.

You know, kiwis, like all fruit with a skin has an awesome way to open and eat it. Cut a bit of the end of the kiwi off and get a spoon, eat it like you would a soft boiled egg. The spoon fits right into the fruit, skin in composter. Done
Unless your a nut job like me and actually like to eat the skin!🤷
Load More Replies...Ah "solo" meaning "threesome", makes sense. [The label says it's bought in a ski resort in the French Alps, namely Les Arcs.]
Actually, the kiwi skin is quite tasty — and, yes, it has a fair amount of fiber
Ordered 150 Washers. This Is How They Were Packaged
Actually search the partnumber and you see these are Boeing aircraft parts, that come with a certification. Putting them in a tub together almost certainly ruins that certification (and shelflife)... The fact that you must log in to get a price also tell you they're several $ each. E.g. https://www.acinv.com/E-Cart/Inventory/Details?Partnumber=66-2955-4&Subp=1 Soo... red herring/ this doesn't belong in this topic.
Load More Replies...These are certified aircraft parts. A paper trail testifies as to their material properties, coatings, tolerances, and production processes. You offended people are the same ones who bitch every time an airliner goes down.
should have bought a bulk package instead of 150 individual quantity.
I see this constantly. They will also put a few in a small box then all of those in a bigger box.
Wtf is wrong with all these people? Have they not heard of retail shops? Go and buy your washers at a hardware store. Ffs.
That's a US government requirement. My company does this with US government orders. They have to be individually wrapped and identified.

Nope. They’re awesome. We use them at home, and for camping. Perfect for small quantities of cast iron food items.

I am quite sure there was a knife and a glass inside, after all it is a "Good morning KIT". And the jar of Nutella looks quite big. So this is a hoax.
A plastic spreader and a Hello World mat smaller than the sign behind the display came in this package. It's still a lot of package and not enough product.
Load More Replies...Never mind it's full of palm oil. Think of that when you see an orangutan sitting in a deforested area.
I have this and it’s a full kit with the large jar of Nutella. It’s seems way more eco than any other way to wrap glass items.
Most glass groceries do not also come in a box. This is a fancy container design that could have been way smaller to accommodate the three items.

I Bought A Nail File
In fairness it wouldn't be financially viable to have packaging for every possible size and depending on setup there is a minimum practical size to packaging.
Except that Amazon has hundreds of different sizes of packaging
Load More Replies...At some point, we the people have to take responsibility. I'm not saying everyone has the option of passing by a shop to get a nail file, but if it's an option, just go into a shop and buy it
Due to the lack of hygiene in my local store... I do my shopping online as much as possible. They don't want money.
Load More Replies...This is on the buyer, not the seller/sender. Why would you buy a nail file online!?
I bought a pair of nail clippers online during the starting phases of the pandemic because our local shops wouldn't sell anything that was "essential goods". There are always reasons to do something.
Load More Replies...Because buying a file in a shop is quite impossible or might cost a bit more? this one is on the buyer.

Hopefully 2020 Brings Less Of This
My grandmother (god rest her) used to get these. You puncture some holes into the plastic, pop it in the microwave and it steams up into a nice "baked" potato.
Or, you skip the plastic and bake them in microwave and they are still good. I just made them the other day.
Load More Replies...There’s a reason for this. It makes them easy to steam individually. They also sell potatoes unwrapped if you don’t need a single steamable potato. I used to buy these in college. I know of what I speak. Yes you can cook a potato without it but the plastic prevents the steam from escaping and overcooking the potato and hardening the skin. Also it cooks it faster by containing the steam so there’s no guesswork when it comes to how long to microwave it.
From Reddit in 2019. Like most stuff on this site, it's fairly old ripped off content. They do tell you at least where they get the posts from but noone reads.
Load More Replies..."Hopefully 2020 Brings Less Of This"? I'm confused. It's nearly 2022. Someone please explain like to a 5yo
Or just go read the intro to the 'article' maybe? Because it really doesn't need explanation. The posts are from Reddit. This site is a clickbait site. They copy and paste other people's content for said click bait. Simple. On this page, most are from 2 years ago.
Load More Replies...But you don't have to wrap a potato in anything if you microwave it. Just make sure there are punctures for steam to escape.
Load More Replies...There's nothing wrong with this. The ones wrapped in plastic are so you could just throw them in the microwave for a baked potato. Which takes 5 minutes versus wrapping it in foil and putting it in the oven For an hour
Edit: sorry if I seemed rude. Anyways: Don’t have a good day, have a great day!
A tater is a tater - sweet, gold, russet, purple after these words it says potato!

I think they’re owned by Amazon now. I ordered some small things from Sephora, and they came a large Amazon box.

This 0.7 Ml Dogs' Anti-Flea And Anti-Tick Drops Straight Out Of The Box
This is awful. When I buy anti-parasite drops for my cats, it come in tiny plastic tube size of straw, where you just cut off top.
I can tell ya right now that is not 1 ml… i have to have weekly injections and this is not close to the accurate amount lol
None of my fur babies have fleas! This stuff is so expensive - maybe a nice bath, would help!
No, seriously, only buy the topical flea meds from the vet. There have been so many reports of burns, seizures, and deaths from generic brands. (Hartz is a big problem). Personal experience, I bought some at the supermarket and within a few minutes of applying the cats were scratching like crazy. Luckily washing the cats thoroughly helped alleviate the problem.

For someone like me that have allot of tiny beads/miniature materials etc. This is amazing, i don't have to go and buy little boxes to organize it and i can eat the snacks. (also the small tictac boxes are good when you are using a very small clutch. (i feel things are only wasteful if you don't use it after consumption. )
How else are they supposed to package this many boxes? How is it wasteful?
Load More Replies...Well, at least the tic tacs are packaged in rigid plastic boxes which can be repurposed for a variety of uses, rather than in small plastic bags which would just be thrown away after use, and the small boxes are stuffed in a large rigid plastic box which would also be useful for storing, so I am not sure that this counts as excessive packaging...
How They Sell Bananas In Japan. Bonus: If You Don't Explicitly Decline, The Cashier Will Give You Another Bag For The Banana
In Japan, Fruit is quite expensive. They're considered a luxury and are used as gifts. So packaging can be more important but I do think individually wrapped is unnecessary.
That's not the case for bananas there. Bananas and pineapples are generally affordable. It's only things like melon that are expensive.
Load More Replies...Japan is slowly working to reduce plastic waste. But because Japanese people aren't complete savages, they put their plastic bags where they belong so it's not like here where you find litter everywhere.
I've been to apan and their packaging is incredibly wasteful . I never expected to see this from such an advanced people

This Tea That I Got For Christmas
I'm going to stick up for this one. It's what they do (http://www.regaloteas.com/Gift-Collection.php). They're those fancy-schmancy pyramid tea bags in different flavours, so packing them together would ruin the taste. They're also packaged for gift-giving. Not a big fan, still killing the environment, but not scammers as so many others on the list are.
If it was just little boxes in a big box, I think I would totally agree but the thought of 16 little plastic bags in boxes in a box gets me (also because the smaller the individual pieces of plastic are, the harder they are to meaningfully recycle)
Load More Replies...And to think that I was debating on whether or not I should give my mom a similar box of tea for Christmas
I prefer loose leaf tea even if it is more expensive because it is less waste. I have a bunch of containers and you can go to the store and just get them filled up. And you use a reusable strainer because tea bags are completely wasteful.
I buy my tea in loose leaf. Can never go back. Teabags taste like paper now, even the fancy ones that don't contain pulverized tea leaves. Get a metal infuse that will last until the next ice age.

this is common at restaurants. We used to have a tradition here where restaurants had a sweet ("Candy") bowl at the exit for you to help yourself. Our health department did a study and found they were infested with urine from men who do not practice basic hygiene in the bathroom. So they made a law that if you have a sweet bowl, each sweet has to be individually wrapped. Fortuantely, most restauarnts do not do this anymore, but they still give you individually wrapped sweets with the bill ("check"). Still daft, but not as bad.

I'm not sure I fully understand this one. Is each blister pack a single day's medication? This looks like how nearly all medications are shipped - how is this extraneous packaging? The extra space between pills, designed to be easier to handle for people with mobility issues? Also, the manufacturers don't know you have a condition - your GP and pharmacist might.
I bloody hate blister packaging for meds. I have arthritis and chronic pain, and it's really hard to get one tiny pill out of that tough plastic without crumbling the pill.
I hear you. My arthritis makes me avoid blister packs as much as I can. Most of the time, you have to peel off the paper before you can push the pill through the foil. What a hassle. I've even seen some that have cut my fingers because the edges are so sharp. I have just learned to use scissors.

Load More Replies...The waste of most of these is so shameful, I couldn't keep going. There are some that have reasons. Sometimes hygiene requires items in public places to be individually wrapped. I'm sure a lot of the Amazon ones happen because the people packing these are in a hurry, aren't paid enough, and grab the closest box to where they are standing so they don't get yelled at by their supervisor for being away from their station.
while I fully agree that there is a severe packaging issue, I don't think most people know that there is a reason why packaging in too big of a box is happening. Amazon has strict rules, and packers do not have a choice in most cases.
