“This Is Fresh Hell”: 90 Photos That Prove The USA Has Reached Disturbing Levels Of Dystopia
At one point, the American Dream was an aspiration for many, both in the United States and beyond. These folks envisioned the quintessential image of owning a home, raising a family, having a stable career, and securing a comfortable retirement.
These days, that dream is becoming less and less achievable. A chunk of people wouldn’t even consider the US a place to live, perhaps because life on the ground seems to mimic scenes from a Black Mirror episode. And the following photos may just prove that.
We collected these images from different corners of Reddit. Scroll through to see how troublesome things have apparently gotten.

This Is So Heartbreaking
I still can’t get my head around American ‘ healthcare ‘ and they think they are a first world country
It's simple math. House and educate people, and provide health care. And tax the wealthy. If the US government did these four things it would be less expensive for taxpayers than our present reality. That our government hasn't gone full Democrat Socialist proves this is NOT a Christian nation.

Sending the bill to the medical school that received it would have been at least plausible.
Divisiveness has plagued America in recent years, and that’s no secret. People have allegiances to the left and the right and have pretty much declared the other their sworn enemy.
That societal division has also taken a toll on people’s health and well-being. According to a 2025 survey by the American Psychological Association, 62% of adults say the polarization has caused significant stress in their lives.

Reality Is Often Disappointing
I had a shady past, and B&Es were part of it. However, I only robbed the rich @holes because I didn't, and still don't, consider them an important part of the human race.
The survey also found that most US adults are more stressed about the country’s future than before. 63% of younger adults and 53% of parents have considered relocating to another country because of the nation's tumultuous state.
And when asked what words they would use to represent America today, 38% said corruption, 36% said division, and 32% said fear.

Homelessness is another problem that many Americans face. Recent statistics reveal that over 745,000 people have experienced homelessness, which equates to 22 people per 10,000 residents.
According to journalist and anthropologist Brian Goldstone, the people roaming the streets are just “the tip of the iceberg.”

92 Year Old Woman Working In Florida, Because She Couldn't Afford To Retire
The fact that it took charity for her to be able to retire is nauseating.
As Goldstone tells PBS, homeless people aren’t just those who are often seen sleeping outside the parking lot of a convenience store. Others appear like functioning members of society.
“It's often the very cashier worker stocking the shelves in those stores. And they often have children at the end of their shifts,” he said. “They don't know where they're going. They have to tell their children, ‘I don't know where we're staying tonight.’ Maybe they're sleeping in a car in that very parking lot.”

Yet, despite the doom and gloom, many Americans remain hopeful about the future.
According to a June Gallup poll, people across the political spectrum largely agree that government reform, system changes, and equal rights are necessary to make the American dream achievable again in the next 50 years.

I don’t really know what EBT is, but seems like something to support families with having enough to eat? Well not everyone on the poverty line can afford much energy for cooking, or even has access to a cooker. Some don’t even have access to a kettle. I could never for one moment claim that all is perfect in any other country - it's not. Europe has it's problems with the rise of the right wing and we have our share of greed, racism, selfishness, disregard and cruelty, but it seems minor compared to to route the USA has been heading down for years. Why US citizens are not in active revolt is beyond me, there is going to be violence and bloodshed at some point unless by some unknown force, good sense and humanity can prevail.
You're correct in your analogy of the US to Europe, but failed to see that our 50 states are quite similar to your 27 countries. Living in Massachusetts (the bluest state), I have about as much in common with Alabama (one of the reddest states) as a Brit has with a Romanian. That is to say, none really. The US has never been unified in the way you seem to think.

Posts like this often draw two sorts of responses. One is to complain about the "It's once again time to bash America" post of the week. The other is to defend it by saying that drawing attention to America's issues. I agree with both. Making noise about America's failing institutions is a good thing, and BP's motivations don't change that. But let's be real - BP isn't doing a public service. They are throwing red meat to create engagement. It's kinda scummy. "Yeah, America really is a mess," and "Jfc will you shut up already, BP?" can both be true at the same time. (Oh, there's a third type of response, and that's genuine disdain from some Europeans, but they are very much in the minority. I get the sense that most Europeans react with genuine sympathy and a bit of dark bemusement - which is how Americans generally react.)
