50 Posts From Toxic Parents Who Simply Shouldn’t Have Had Kids, Shared On This Online Community
Let’s face it, parenting is one of the biggest challenges that we’ll ever have to face in our lives. It’s right up there alongside fighting off an alien invasion, surviving a zombie apocalypse, rocket science, and plugging in a USB cable on the first try. So it’s no wonder that most parents are less than perfect. In fact, it’s pretty much the norm.
However, they’re nowhere near the level that some of the parents featured on the ‘Parents Are Effing Dumb’ subreddit are. There, you’ll find some of the biggest fails that will make you gasp, shout “think of the children!”, and think about taking these people’s parenting license away. Remember to buckle up and upvote the pics that made your jaw drop as you scroll down the rollercoaster that is this descent into parenting weirdness.
When it comes to parenting, both extremes—absolute perfectionism/trying to be a ‘perfect’ parent and not trying hard enough—can be harmful to the family. And while it’s very clear what bad parenting is, perfectionism is more insidious and sneaky and can actually end up being just as harmful as actual neglect or ignorance, though in a very different way. We spoke about the pitfalls of this with an expert in the field of psychology.

This is why some people shouldn't be allowed to reproduce!

Omg I can't even believe there are people this dense. Be a parent, and teach your kids to respect animals, that hitting is not nice, etc. You know, do parent stuff
And when the dog gets fed up, and mauls their kid, they shouldn't be shocked. I hate when parents don't put their kid's bad behavior in check.
Maybe try TELLING YOUR F*****G KID NOT TO PUNCH THE GOD DAMNED DOG!!!!
He’s Not Wrong
Let's cancel the label "Karen," since it's so misogynistic and harmful to nonracists named Karen. An abusive husband coined the term for his victimized wife.
Load More Replies...This is a good burn, but it's misleading in a dangerous way. Measles is a disease for which vaccination produces herd immunity. This means that individual antivaxxers who are surrounded by people who do vaccinate can be protected by them, but when there are more antivaxxers, they spread the disease to each other and then to the small percentage of non-vaccinated people who did not develop immunity and those who could not be vaccinated for legitimate reasons. (Many of the non-immune vaccinated and those who could not be vaccinated have compromised immunity, which can put them more at risk if they do get sick.) So even if you buy into the whole sick "my child my choice" attitude of people who don't vaccinate (and apparently see their children as just another of their personal possessions), antivaxxers are not just endangering themselves and their children. They are being selfish and endangering the community as a whole.
The poster should get together with other anti-vaxxers to form their own camp. They can call it Camp Last Hooray.
I was a kid before the measles vaccine was available, and I got measles. My family home was quarantined, my mother wasn’t allowed to leave even to go to work (My dad had measles in the Army during the war; that’s another unhappy tale.) My mother hung all the windows with red flannel, which was believed to protect you from going blind. Regardless of that, I suffered a partial vision loss and a partial hearing loss. I also had mumps and chicken pox. Why in the name of hell would anyone risk their kids when they don’t have to?
BOOM! Unfortunately logic only fuels the antivax delusions. I must admit I am a reformed antivaxxer. My kid wasn’t vaccinated until he was 4 and starting pre-k. I have hope that there are others that will realize their “beliefs” are rooted in fear. The century worth of science and research can penetrate even the most stubborn of minds. But there are also social justice issues that have paved the way for distrust in science and the government. In those cases, education provided with compassion and not dismissal can go a long way.
Getting vaccinated with FDA approved drugs when young such as measles and mumps is one thing but getting vaccinated for covid with a drug that hasn't been through the full set of testing by the FDA and your child would be used as one of the test subjects per se before it was fully approved isn't wise is my opinion. I would not do that to my child. My job is to protect my child, not jump on a peer pressure bandwagon.
Load More Replies...No. Gross sense of not vaccinating their kids. Gross sense of entitlement! This person should be shamed and ridiculed and moved to their own antivaxx plague island.

Wow that just hit me hard. I still have that happen to me and I'm 43. And it absolutely crushes my soul. Just the other day I thought "wow, I seriously cannot do anything right."
Disengage. Seriously. I'm not saying it's easy but we do not have to be what our parents think we are. You can put on an act for them, and laugh secretly when you leave if that makes it easier, but be YOU and be proud of you.
Load More Replies...Yep and I talked to my mom about not saying such stuff when I try and the only reply I get is "you're just being dramatic"
That's unfortunately a typical reaction of an abusive person. Instead of changing their behaviour they blame you for how you feel. So they are unkind and on top blame you for feeling bad about it.
Load More Replies...Heartbreaking, here is how I survived. I pictured the words as little flying darts, I envisioned that I would step aside and let them fly right by, to not get any on me. To remind myself that there is always someone trying to bring you down. Recognize it has nothing to do with you, it’s there issue. Then limit your engagement, if they say “finally”, just agree say “yeah, right, amazing I could get it together”. This basically steals their fire. Get on YouTube and look up the videos on how to deal with narcissism. Take care, stay safe, drop the burden of believing there is a problem with you.
Abuse and neglect wear many masks. People, remember children are human beings too.
I rarely see my family after years of this crap. My small family lives in another state so it's not convenient to visit me anyway. I stay where I live and happily so. As an introvert with social anxiety at 71
I was told by my relatives for many years that I would never be able to live on my own away from my mom because I was too attached to her and I have been living on my own in my own apartment for two and a half years now. I guess those relatives were wrong.
I am so sorry that was never processed in the offender's mind. It's a great lesson and I'm so glad you said it. I can honestly say I am a kind, considerate person and would have meant this in a teasing, but loving way. Now I know how it was received and I'll never do it again! Promise.
Christine, congratulations on tutning 50 you're an adult now and already did a good thing by sharing with the rest of us struggling to be whatever , whoever they are, want us to be. The one I remember and try to forget," What did YOU do THIS time?" Then they all look at you waiting to hear what dreadfull thing you've done. Makes you feel like a bug, not a cute little lady bug but a horsefly or mosquitoe.

Believing that you should (or even that you can) be a so-called ‘perfect’ parent is actually detrimental to your health. What’s more, the belief that you can control every single outcome can spread to other areas of your life, not just parenting.
How Could She Not Know How Antlers Work?
Female reindeer have antlers, too. In fact Santa's sleigh would be pulled by females as males lose their antlers around that time - Fun fact
Oh, and Rudolph is a lesbian too! Because people say that she has a girlfriend. Athough, she could also be Omnisexual, Pansexual, or Bisexual. I may have forgoten some sexualities. Or all of Santa's Reindeer could also be Trans.
Load More Replies...Honestly, I don't really blame her. Everybody forgets, and she was trying to not grow up a sexist child. It's just wildly embarrasing (like my spelling) :D
Was it a deer or could it have been a reindeer? Female reindeer have antlers.
Wouldn't say that's a toxic parent. They were trying to do the right thing.

When you hit your kid, the only thing you're teaching them is to be afraid of you.
I’m a really good liar because of my parents but they can’t tell when I’m telling the truth so I get blamed for things I didn’t do
Parents will always blame their child for everything.
Load More Replies...It sounds as if the text is describing parents who are strict about everything because they don't want to deal with anything inconvenient. This is different from some parents I've known who might be strict about certain things (such doing homework and doing their share of chores, because that helps them with their futures) but very open about others (their children are allowed to speak their minds because the parents want communication).
No. Kinda like the be polite etc etc kinda rules But those make a child scared of us! That's just beyond.

How to lie effectively, how to cry silently, how to hide anything you're feeling
Sad but true. Example from my personal experience - making me go to bed early taught me how to secretly get up and do stuff in "stealth mode", read with a flashlight, etc. Most prohibitions teach children how to cover their tracks, not to avoid doing the thing.

My babysitters sons raped me when I was 5. I told my mom and she told me I was a liar because they're "good boys" and if I wasn't lying, it was probably my fault anyway for being such a whore. Took me 8 more years to learn what a whore was. No amount of therapy has ever been able to get me past my trust issues. I'm 45, have never had a healthy relationship. I seek out abusive people who use me because deep down I truly believe that I am subhuman and that hate and pain is my lot in life. I have overcompensated with my kids at times because I would never ever want any of them to grow up and feel like I do.
You were a child, barely out of your toddler years, when you were violently assaulted and then utterly betrayed by the one person who was supposed to protect you. Five-year old you NEVER deserved that and ADULT you doesn't deserve to feel the way you still do. I'm happy to read you protect your children; I hope you can extend that same love, care, and compassion to yourself, both your adult self and the little girl who was raped and then abandoned by her mother. You and Younger You deserve to feel as safe and loved as your own children do. Have a peaceful day. xoxo

My aunt died suddenly of a brain aneurysm. She was 35. It was devastating to our family, especially her husband (my dad's brother) and children. We received that awful phone call around 2 am. My dad crawled into bed w/ my sister (8) & I (10). He held us and sobbed as he told us our aunt had died. The next day, my mother 'confronted' us kids. She angrily asked if we had "laughed" when our dad told us about our aunt, apparently because he was crying. I feel I must've had the most disgusted look on my face that a child could muster, because that's what I felt at my mother, absolute disgust. I simply told her "No.", but that was the exact moment I knew I was smarter than, and had better sense than she did. That was 35 years ago, and I wasn't wrong.
It was a bit of the opposite for me growing up since I had a choice about it. My adult cousin smoked weed as self medication and needed a job. He asked my mom for her pee last minute before his start date but she couldn't do it physically due to some issues. So he asked me. I was about 7 at the time. I said sure as long as I got $10. I was a little hustler back then. He got the job and I was happy. I thought I had good-luck pee or something. Later I realized it was because of marijuana testing.
Well.. the day my parents showed up at a school meeting with my teacher, completely drunk. Smelling of beer from a mile away. That day I got the impression there was something very wrong with them. Also the continuous fighting at night. When they both were drunk. Was a pretty big give away that I was stuck with 2 people that shouldn't have had kids.
“Perfectionism is a very insidious problem—even if someone achieves great success in their personal or professional life, negative thinking patterns lead them to be highly self-critical, focus on perceived mistakes, or mentally discount their achievements,” Morton detailed that a perfectionist mindset dims even the biggest victories when we tend to laser-in on the various real and imagined flaws.

It's sad when people who really want children can't have them, and then horrible people like these have kids. Not fair.
What happened to just taking something and hiding it in the bedroom until the kid is off punishment?
Load More Replies...I wish we could set up a Go Fund Me for this person to buy a new one
These parents had kids to be able to punish them, like they were punished, or worse. " Because I didn't get this or that, or to do whatever it is, YOU, will pay for it now!" Their frustration and anger at their own parents must've been horrible, not being able to take it out on them, they had to have someone to take the blame. Not understanding their own behavior, they just set up another cycle of anger and frustration and awful treatment. Then, when the kid grows up and leaves home forever, wants to know why they kid won't come home or see them? They sadly, have no understanding of what happened at all. To them, or what they did to their kid(s).
Sometimes I wonder if the parents are just looking for any excuse/reason to destroy the confidence of their child/children. Oh, and art is "just a hobby" so destroying hours and hours of work is really nothing to get upset about. I want to smack adults that give that message to children.
Where do I contribute money to get her a new one and move her away?! Just point me there!

The anxiety surrounding perfectionism is just as much about personal pride as it is about the desire to be respected and liked by others. “People who struggle with perfectionism may worry that they will be judged for their perceived failures, feel that they are inadequate for needing help, or assume they will be a burden on their family and friends,” she said, adding that this can make perfectionists especially vulnerable mentally and emotionally.

Honey, I’m glad you are still alive. Next it sounds like your parents are engaging in magical thinking. They probably do not know how to deal with the situation, your parents need counseling and it probably would not hurt you to be in counseling as well, you need better told in your toolbox to deal with the stresses of being raised by parents engaging in magical thinking. NOTE: shop for a good therapist, not all of them make a good fit. Then think about getting yourself to s as safer place to live. Virtual hugs, be kinder to you than your parents are, you are worth it
Further on your comment. A good therapist will understand if you feel they are not a good fit for you, and will not be offended and may even be able to recommend someone else.

What's their argument when an unvaccinated child has autism? Chem-trails?
Legit answer: They don't understand correlations and causality. Because autism typically presents itself as a "regression" at around the same age a young child is given a routine set of vaccinations, they believe these things are linked. Answer I'd love to give: they are despicable hateful narrow minded people who cannot accept anything outside what they perceive as "normal" and that mother should be forced to walk around with a sandwich board proclaiming her stupidity and child abuse

@Vicky, look at the title. She advocated letting kids keep their contraceptives.
Load More Replies...As a parent, my biggest concern was that my children would experiment with sex before they were mature enough to handle any of the possible consequences. Sex can sometimes result in some life-changing outcomes (early pregnancy, stds, being exploited, etc.). My attitude didn't prevent me from teaching them all I could or pointing them to reliable sources of information though. As for the post, the son was more grounded in reality than the parent.
This also boils down to refusing to teach kids about sex. Abstinence only doesn’t work!
This was clearly not an "abstinence-only" situation. They had condoms.
Load More Replies...Better for kids to be making bad decisions (such as sex as a teenager) than worse decisions (such as unprotected sex as a teenager). Talk to them about your beliefs regarding when it is appropriate to have sex, but taking away their contraception will only make it worse.
Decision is the key word here. He could have chosen not to have unprotected sex. It was his decision.
Load More Replies...My mother is very, very religious (Catholic), and doesn't agree with sex before marriage. So when she found my condom when I was 20, I thought she would have taken it off me and lectured me about the sins of sex before marriage. Child marriages at 13 are not uncommon in Iran. Some are even younger, so not getting the whole "I'm Iranian and we're not big sinners like Westerners" narrative...
My first boyfriend's older sister directed me to Planned Parenthood to get on the pill, I was 16 and lived with my dad. When I was 18 and moving out of state with a different bf I met my mom, my aunt and her abusive girlfriend for drinks. My aunts gf pulled me aside to have a talk to make sure I was on birth control because my mom couldn't ask. Yep. Amazing I never got pregnant. Thank you Planned Parenthood!
Wow, you know it's bad when the only adult to advise you was the abusive one.

WTF did you say Iranians don't have sex young???? okie dokie then. Over 7,000 girls under-14 got married in 3 months. ... Physical and psychological damages caused by child marriages in Iran have many irreparable adverse consequences on the lives of young women, particularly those who get pregnant under 18 years of age. Cool cool cool cool cool. Idiot
As such, it’s very important that parents who make mistakes with their kids don’t overcorrect and land in the ‘perfectionist’ zone. Similarly, any parents who realize that they’re being inflexible with their standards and are overly critical of their and their kids’ (real or perceived) faults need to learn to hold back and allow room for (at least some) failure. After all, learning to deal with failure and drawing wisdom from our mistakes is what being human is all about. One thing's for sure, though: nobody wants to be that parent who ends up on 'Parents Are Effing Dumb.'

What do these parents even think they're doing? This is just insanely dangerous, but it's also pointless and ridiculous. That little baby is way, way too young to register whatever "view" they think he/she is seeing. Some people truly are so dumb, it's kind of amazing that they remember to breathe.
Quite recently, my wife and I sat our 10-month-old in his pram in our garden. I thought she strapped him in, and she thought I did. Of course, he leaned forward and fell out, banging his head on the patio (fortunately, no serious injury, just a bruise). Imagine that happened in this situation.
Imagine... Uggh
Oh god, there should be laws against this sort of "family youtube" thing. Using your kids for views and cash is revolting.
I agree, youtube should be held accountable for monetising them. They did recently start rating kids contenr so that is a start.

I actually had someone tell me MULTIPLE times to "Take St.Johns Wort! It will make you feel better!"... Bitch.. How is placing a crystal in moonlight and charging it's healing energy/radical electrons going to fix that?..btw.. I have a degree in electronics. that's NOT how crystals work.
The worst part is the St John's wort could have at least made you feel worse, possibly killed you when taken with your other meds. It can intensify the effects and side effects of other meds, supplements, herbs. Alternative remedies can be very effective . WHEN TAKEN PROPERLY. With the realization that every remedy, whether herbs, oils or even Dr prescribed meds, has limits, interactions, toxicity levels, and so on These people who read a paragraph on Pinterest or an article in Mother Earth News and think they know all are like eating tin to me. Taking A Picture Instead Of Saving Your Child
You can make other babies, but opportunities to feel like you are relevant on a social media are important.
So she just stood there taking pictures instead of running out there to get the kid down?!? I can understand making mistakes like leaving the kid alone but your first reaction is to take pictures first is terrible.
She also had the nerve to say "lucky her leg got caught so she didn't face plant". This parent could have prevented the entire situation, and you can tell she really doesn't get it. Poor baby you deserve better.

Yeah a, not attempt to block the kids faces or protect their identity. They seem to be pawns in a horrible game. I'm taking deep breaths, I have a friend who has a kid who's been through hell coz of one party using him as a tool of control. He's coming along in leaps and bounds but there is one more legal hurdle (refusing medical assistance and funding for his mental health needs at present, although custody has had to have moved away from 50/50 to every second weekend for said party for child's mental wellbeing, the other party is still legally able to block access to this assistance for the child. One more case and we are done I hope!!)

My guess is that he came to drop them off before she felt his week was up. They probably fell asleep in his truck or car in the car seats. Unfortunately that's exactly what she did.

His four siblings weren’t safe around him, and when at 9 yo he tried to light his little sister on fire because he thought ‘it would be funny to watch her screaming and running around on fire!’ That was the last straw, his father snapped and smacked him hard. Really hard. Cousin was stunned, ran off crying. They only smacked him when he tried to hurt someone else, and, after about 2 years, when he saw they wouldn’t stop until he did, he wised up and figured when he behaved, he didn’t get smacked. He graduates high school this year (which didn’t look like it would even be a thing at 5yrs ago, more like prison.) has a part time job, and has turned right around. Family Had Symptoms Of Covid But Sent Child To School Regardless
Those people should be fined, and do community service by volunteering at hospitals.
This is why teachers had such a hard time returning to schools in the beginning. We knew a lot of parents wouldn't accurately report symptoms (based on years of personal experience, I know to ask children did mommy give you red liquid in a cup today?). COVID finally made a lot teachers stand up for themselves and say my family is more important than teaching.
the same happened to an acquaintance of mine just yesterday. the whole family is now quarantined, because one of their kids' classmates was sent to school while waiting for their covid test result. the test was positive.
It isn't any different in other places. We had a family sending their kids to the park since they were positive and couldn't go to school. (Italy)

My Parents Think This Is A Cute Decoration
My MIL collects golli-dolls. I asked her mother (my wife's grandmother) about it a few years back. She told me that after the war, they were left with nothing, rationing was the only thing keeping them fed. She was out begging one day with her infant child (my MIL) and someone gave her a golli doll and she has kept it ever since. The doll, to my MIL, was the first and only gift she would receive as a child and holds huge sentimentality, if her house caught fire, she would try to save them, before her husband. She knows and understands why they are racist, but for her, they represent something else, kindness, charity, safety and childhood.
My grandmother and her friends toiled for weeks to knit me a golli when i was a newborn, none of them could get the hair right so it got passed pretty much every elderly or knitting enthusiast for miles around until a lovely old lady managed to master it. That doll is still sitting proudly in my display case not only as a symbol of love from grand parent to grand child but also a community rallying around to do a nice thing (for context I’m very dark skinned mixed race)
Load More Replies...Ok, so I read, like, every single comment here in search of a reason as to why this is racist, and I haven't found any actual reasons here - I can Lily Mae Kitty hating on everybody who doesn't know and calling them idiots, saying that black children with watermelons is racist, but WHY is it racist??? I went to the Wikipedia link that Ienka sent, but it didn't really explain much other than the stereotype that African American people love watermelons. Is that it? Is that the only reason?? Can someone please RESPECTFULLY (hint hint, don't react like Lily Mae Kitty did) explain to me how this is racist?
It was steretypically believed that watermelon and fried chicken were "black people" food, particularly after slavery and during the 20th-century re-hash of slavery known as sharecropping. For African-Americans, that image reminds them of slavery, KKK, lynchings, etc. So.... kinda like if you showed all Jews like Hitler did would be offensive to Jews. it's a stereotype created not by them, but by the oppressor. Did that help?
Load More Replies...It’s amazing how Americans assume the whole world knows everything about their problems with racism. It’s kind of cultural colonialism - you don’t know why we think watermelon eaten by a black kid is racist? You’re an uneducated idiot! Oh, you are from Czech, Modlavia, Ukraine, Korea or any other country with no black slaves history? It doesn’t justify you! The whole world should be aware of our cultural problems!
Oh just wrote a similar thing, it is frustrating, we don't need to feel guilty for other nations racisms. literally first time a see this stereotype. Most of our countries existed centuries before US was even discovered :)
Load More Replies...OMG, whyyy, why are you so triggered, that there are people who don"t know, that every second thing in USA is considered racist? Isn't this the sign that some people are just not rasist exactly because they don't see anything wrong with that??!! In my deepest mind I wouldn't guess, that black doll with meloon is som stereotype. I didn't even know what to google! It was like: "mayby the problem is the tabasco? Or the shape of those dolls." Please note, that not only USA people are here. Some (I would guess actually many) states/cultures have aboslutely different situation and we just don't get those things. So please STOP INSULTING agressively those people!
I am sorry to be this disrespectfull to your problems. I know, it was rude. I was upset from agressive comments I see here. But please be more open minded.
Load More Replies...Aren't those dolls some sort of craftsmanship, though? Not everything is based on racism. Some people just buy stuff when traveling.
They are? Are we not allowed to have black dolls anymore? Should we segregate and have white people only play with white people dolls, have white people art and white people statues? That doesn't sound like a good idea.
What colour are human figurines in the houses of people of colour?
Load More Replies...I'm not sure the average person would be familiar with the mocking stereotype of African Americans having a great appetite for watermelons; I hadn't heard of this until clicking the link to the wikipedia article in lenka's comment. Maybe these parents didn't mean anything racist by it, they just thought the decorations were generic kids eating fruit.
Since we're on a bad parenting thread this comment section reminds me of one of the mistakes parents (and others) can make. That's punishing them for not knowing things. It's not bad to educate others but the results will always be better if you approach it respectfully with children and with our peers. That's just what I always have found to be most effective.

My parents didn't take my door, but they had the same attitude to privacy. They still do.
I'll bet that parents with this attitude to privacy are religious. Mine are and this was their attitude- I moved out as soon as I could.
Load More Replies...Bingo. And this does NOTHING but create resentment and retard a child's ability to establish boundaries. It does not keep kids safer, it breaks down parental/child trust, and makes a kid become VERY good at lying and sneaking around. They will still be teens, door or no door. My parents did a great job of never encouraging me, never believing in me and never telling me I was good at anything which has left me with a gut wrenching feeling of uselessness that has followed me right up to my forties.
In my case, my mother was convinced I'm a genius, so she expected me to excel at everything, which I didn't. I was always a mediocre student in anything relating to science and I just went through school with an average grade. She was always disappointed, she always made me feel like I was worthless. My Mom somehow knows everything about me, which makes sense as she does listen. My dad on the other hand can't remember stuff he's repeatably been told for over 8 years, even when it's been used as an example of how little he listens. I started to tell a them about getting my jab, when dad started nit picking something irrelevant. I decided who cares I'm not going to bother telling it then. But once I said I wouldn't tell them, dad got curious and started asking questions. Each of which Mom answered at length. I feel both betrayed and flattered.
I'm afraid that I do this. I don't think that I'm out of touch with my kids achievements and skills as adults, but remember when they were passionate about something as kids. I was proud of them then, and still am. And I always make sure to tell them that.
My mother is like this in a severely negative way- I'm recovering from suicidality and she acts like i'm fine because when i was 10 I was healthy

It's true I remember getting cigarettes for my mum when I was around 7 years old, and when they changed the law I went with a note from my mum.
Load More Replies...It was no big deal. You had a note from your mom, and they gave you the cigs. It was a different time then, and really not that scandalous. It's not like the clerk made you smoke one before selling them to you. It was actually pretty nice to grow up in a time when things like this that weren't causing harm to anyone weren't freaked out over by people looking to get offended by anything.
60 years ago it was a lot different. Prior to that people sent their kids to saloons with buckets to buy beer. Do not judge the past. Learn from it but don't judge it, it is a waste of time and a totally irrelevant act. Remember, the past is dead, YOU are responsible for now and the future.

7yo Gets Bullied At School For Sitting In A Car Seat, So Mom Waits Until He's Asleep, Takes A Photo Of Him, And Posts It On The Official Parents Magazine Instagram Page (855k Followers)
I think this person is actually evil. Maybe she will learn her lesson when she is not invited to his wedding, never meets her grandchildren, and is cremated in the cheapest casket and thrown away in the nearest lake with just a small prayer and two flowers.
A 7 year old kid is roughly 25kg and 1m10cms tall. They SHOULD be in a car seat. It's a safety matter.
Load More Replies...Can anyone please explain why this is bad? I'm from Spain. Here the law states that kids up to 12 years old MUST be in a car seat. Only taking it off when their height is above 1,35 meters
i think it's bad because she's posting a picture of him in the booster seat on social media, and since he got bullied for it (the booster seat) , if any of his other classmates found it they could easily make the poor kids life hell? idk that's how i interpreted it anyway
Load More Replies...This is not bad parenting. While a child this size does not strictly need to be in the 5 point harness, he DOES need to be in a booster with a headrest and side impact protection (the wings on the headrest). The mother posted to a parents group (not the child's school) in an attempt to educate other parents on car seat safety.
Bad parenting after he said he was being ridiculed by his friends for having a baby seat so she posts it so hundreds of thousands of people can see. A child that age should be able to decide whether or not he wants his photo shared publicly especially to that many people. A real parent would have kept this picture private. She is right to keep him in the seat or at least got him a booster to make him feel better and just as safe.
Load More Replies...I can keep my child safe and not post a picture of him online that will get him bullied. She wants to be right so bad that she is willing to humiliate her son to do it. This is what's so evil. It's like parents who post when their 1st graders have potty accidents. Just do your job, take care of your kid, and stop looking for validation from strangers on the internet.
In stockholm you can ride the bus for free if you have a child in a stroller. So you will see 7-10y in stroller. look ridiculous
I'm in my 30s and if I ever visit Stockholm, I'm bringing my mother with me and will cram myself into a stroller just to prove a point. Children ride free, you say? Good, because I am her child. Now give me my free ride!

as someone who just took drivers ed, i can say u are required to be in a car seat if they are below 4’9 and 8 and under. however if he is 7 and 4’9 he can be out of the car seat. i think this post is crazy and i think he can at least be in a booster seat, just making sure y’all know the laws. also, as someone who was in a car seat very similar to that one until they were 11 (got moved to a booster seat when i was 12) i can confirm kids can be VERY mean about it.
We’re In A Crowded Terminal And This Toddler Wouldn’t Stop Crying And Screaming, So Her Mom Gave Her A Whistle To Play With
To be honest, I would prefer to listen to whistle than screaming/crying child. It is same as I would prefer to be kicked in butt insted of slapped across face, two bad options, but still I would prefer the whistle. Still I believe that there could be a better solution, like giving the kid a pack of cards.
I wouldn't. I have to liste to crying children daily and they aren't that loud as whistles can be.
Load More Replies...Yes but all the rest started crying and screaming after that...
Load More Replies...How is that bad. She gave her something to entertain her. I know other people might be annoyed, too bad. Giving her another option is good.
One time I was waiting for my flight, and this kid kept coming up to be and just standing in front of me. Keep in mind this is during covid and his mask was below his nose. He was probably like 4 or something, and his parents told him to come back to them. He did, and then started screaming and throwing a tantrum. They didn’t do anything. Nothing at all. Smh
Because a tantrum for attention needs to be ignored

Take her out and see if they want to sign her to a record deal.
Yes, The Problem Is Definitely Not That You Gave A Phone To A 2 Year Old!

I once showed my middle finger to my uncle because I wanted to show him my nail polish. Only after he asked me why I was doing this I realized that this was an offensive gesture. Kids just aren't aware of these things yet, it's just a word/gesture just like any other to them.
Load More Replies...Please don't give your young children phones. It's going to suck them in and they'll spend their childhood on a screen, missing all the great moments of having not a care in the world. As someone who actually had a childhood because my parents were strict on screens, it was great. I got addicted to Youtube around 11 and that was it. I had grown up in 2 seconds. I definitely regret it, but I can't do anything about it now. I just wish I could have been a child a bit longer.
My son has an old Note 5. It has educational games his teacher recommended and coloring books. He doesn't use it all day and we treat it like no big deal. He has to learn to live with smartphones and I would rather make it a mundane part of the day instead of a special treat. I'm more concerned with this mom punishing her 2-year-old for "possibly" saying a bad word. Kids mispronounce things at that age and she's freaking out. I fear for when this kid says truck wrong.
We have a son who and daughter who both got hand me down phones. No texting/ calling service but they could connect to the wireless internet. It was great that they were tech savvy enough to continue to thrive during home schooling due to the pandemic! We never had an issue monitoring their content or limiting screen time. Most people on here acting ridiculous about the kid having a phone are more than likely picturing a two year old with a brand new, fully functional iPhone. 😂

Sad We Have To Create Something So We Don’t Forget Children
If you 'never understand' why people make mistakes, you're another reason why people think they could never make a mistake, don't use any kind of failsafe, make a mistake, and have dire consequences.
I sometimes think that some of those incidents are not accidents.
Load More Replies...Being rude and judgy about parents wanting to have a fail safe is being a bad person. Sleep deprived parent + change in routine + quiet sleeping baby can lead to tragic ACCIDENTS. I never forgot my baby in the car but I did make other mindlessly stupid mistakes due to exhaustion and distraction that could have had tragic consequences. Any parent who claims they haven't accidentally done something potentially dangerous is probably lying.
Idgf what kind of sleep deprived change in routine quite baby foolishness I was in. I dont even forget to take trash outta my car I sure as hell would never forget my freakin baby.

Excuse me?? How is this posted under "Toxic parents who never should have had children"? For starters, any parent using this seems great to me. Extra safety measures. Secondly, don't ever imply only "bad" parents forget their kids. A rushed morning, a change in routine, a sleeping child, stress.. There are so many examples of wonderful parents who made this one, horrible mistake and will never ever forgive themselves for it, even though it could happen to the best of us.

Thats awesome. That kid has a great future ahead of them as a designer.
Load More Replies...The people who are judging parents who have this sort of fail safe device are the people who won't have such a fail safe device, and who will, in fact, forget their child in a hot car. Get sleep deprived and frazzled enough, and you WILL do this. Unless you foresee yourself being sleep deprived and frazzled enough to do this, and come up with a prevention strategy. What next - judging people who get into car accidents for wanting to kill someone?
This usually happens when there's a change in routine, like the wife is sick, so dad drops the kid off at daycare but reverts to his normal routine and drives straight to work. That's why memory aids like this are such a great thing. My sister used a coiled tether between the car seat and her purse - the purse was right up in the front seat with her and she *never* left her purse in the card -- she had to unclip her purse from the car seat before leaving the car.
I have always felt that just as cars do a bing-bing if you leave the lights on when you are exiting a car, car seats could be fitted with a device that if there is any weight in the seat, as soon as you open the door, it does an bing-bing sound. It would be hard for people to forget their kids if this very, very simple system was in place.
My Son Likes To Do Something He Likes And He Deserves It, But Doesn't Need It. What Should I Do?
You could teach him the valuable lesson that, no matter how hard he works and how good he follows rules, people with power (you in that case) will never let him see a reward for it, let alone have some time to relax and recharge. That will teach him a lot about life. Or push him to burnout/suicide and stuff.
oh my god yes. i worked on homework so late last night and haven't gotten a break in too long. I'm so tired.
Load More Replies...A friend's son spent an inordinate amount of time playing videos. Even though he was getting good grades in school and pulling his weight with household chores, the parents were concerned. But instead of punishing him, the father taught his son how to build a computer. He's also learning to code. You just never know how their interests can develop, so don't stifle it.
If you're concerned about screen time being bad for your child. Don't set limits, instead do everything you know is good for a child's development before settling down in front of TV. Such as going for a walk, making crafts, playing outside etc.
Nice Name
I don't think I would be able to hold myself back and not call my child Cash if my last name was money. I would have to rely on my wife as the voice of reason.
I agree! I know someone with the last name Meth, when each of his 3 daughters were born I lobbied to him and his wife to name her "Crystal". His wife didn't share my sense of humor. Though admittingly that would be an interesting name

They'd Better Not Sue When That Child Is Yeeted Off A Ride Like A Drunken Flea
I think it has something to do with fitting the harnesses... And avoiding death...
Look this is not good behaviour, but hopefully there is a safety margin for kids with normal thicc shoes, tall hair, unusual body proportions etc
As they dont make you take shoes off when measuring people for rides, I think they have leeway by several inches to accomodate those who have a wedge in their shoes, particularly females where it can make more than an inch's difference. I don't see this one as that bad, it's one inch.
The problem isn't their overall height, it's where the harness fits their shoulders and torso.

Ah Yes Looking For Something To Be Mad About
Parents would rather die than admit they are wrong. One day, I demanded that my grandmother apologizes... She laughed. It was like a real life glitch.
I thought it was very important to apologize to my daughter If I had been unjust/wrong. So she would know I felt sorry and everyone can make mistakes. And regret it afterwards. As a teenager she told me she still remembers those apologies and it Made her feel good that I said she was right and I was wrong. I really think some parents are afraid if they admit that they are wrong their children stop believing in them ..when it is absolutely the opposite. I am glad I never pretended to be omniscient.

As she was opening my desk and my dresser, huffing and looking angrier and angrier, the cat came in and went under my bed. After opening everything that could be opened and finding it pristine, she looked under the dust ruffle of my bed where the cat had played with one shoe that was now on it's side next to a perfectly lined up row of my other shoes. She started screaming about how messy it was and how I was such a rebellious little brat refusing to clean my room. She went and told my dad my room was a mess and I got grounded.

Not Forcing Your Toddler To Drink Beer Totally Makes You A Sissy
Oh ffs--this was not a big deal. I took sips of my parent's drinks as a child. SIPS. I wanted to know how it tasted, and no harm was done. I did not get drunk, and I did not grow up to be an alcoholic. I rarely drink as an adult--a few glasses of wine a year and that's about it. Also, people need to stop thinking that North American culture is some kind of moral compass. In Italy and France, children will drink wine mixed with water with dinner. Jesus H. Did she take the time to put the item back in its original retail box after using it but not take the time to put the box away? This whole thing is BS. Great job publicly shaming your child and denigrating her education over something you totally made up and didn't even think through.
"L-Like This, Mommy?"
Pushing it too far. As an old proverb in my country goes: "The excessive saint is not loved even by God."
"You are a privileged cisgender white girl, you oppressing bigot! -But I just wanna watch Paw Patrol..."
I am told that all the time lol. Oh, you’re a cisgender white girl? Bigot!!! Whore!!!!!

As well as a higher rate of them joining online white supremacists groups. Stop blaming people for the color of their skin and have a productive conversation about the history of race and progress in an age appropriate manner for each age group.
Not a good idea to make anyone feel less than to elevate someone else.
Okay but it is important for her to know she's privileged.( I am also white). It doesn't make her a bad person, she just needs to be aware of her privileges and help others get to where she is.
I agree. Black children don't have the luxury of not knowing that we're not.
Load More Replies...she's not "helping". She's just doing what a parent told her to do. Other than that she has no idea what she's doing or why she's dong it. Stop using kids as props for political theater.
Going too far. You can support it without making your child feel guilty about being born white. SMH
This is mascotism. Taking an extreme and clearly stupid fringe example and claiming it represents the whole. It's like saying Americans are evil because of the Phelps family.
Gee I Wonder Why People Were Being Rude?
wait I'm confused, who's the bad person? the parent just seems to be trying to protect her child. (please don't downvote me to oblivion, I'm genuinely confused)

Disney is not safe. They were having outbreaks of Covid among their employees all last year and no one knew. I have a family member who worked there. It was a petri dish.

A mask isn't going to do much good. Infected droplets can easily get into the eyes. If the child is that compromised she should seriously consider a small face shield
???
That fits with Auntie Pestilence and Uncle Darkness.

Raipur is the name of the place where they r born
Load More Replies...Honestly there are way too many parents that don't think about how a kids name will effect their life.
i must say that Corona is a legitimate name. my dad's older sister was named Corona. it's italian for crown. but i agree that naming twins born during this pandemic these particular names is warped.
There’s a law against this sort of thing though isn’t there, ther is in the UK
I Hate Parents That Don't Care About Their Children's Health
It's lucky they have that cleaner right on the table there. That way if the baby doesn't accidentally drink it, they can use it to clean up the blood. (And I mean that with all of the sarcasm in the world!)
Yes Please
The kids are unplanned pregnancies apparently.

And that's how children learn to be careful with fire. This kind of parenting was normal when I was young and I never felt the urge to participate in stupid social media challenges like the Tide Pod Challenge or the Bird Box challenge because I learned you've got to think about all the possible consequences of your actions.
I'm pretty sure any human with something resembling common sense would elect not to eat aperture science washing machine bleach.
Load More Replies...They are soooo fast (which means to never put a candle in reach) - but you can't see it coming through the camera
Load More Replies...Just tell them the word for hot as soon as they understand and show them fire WITHOUT letting them touch it - I have four children from 21 to 1 year old and nobody ever got burnt..... 🤷
I have 10 siblings, and every birthday we place a cupcake or the cake with candles in front if the birthday kid. First birthday: Let's grab the shiny! (Followed by WHY WON'T YOU GIVE BACK THE FLAME?!). Second birthday: Me know what do, BLOW! And then for every other kid's birthday, the 2 year old will blow out any candles he has access to -_-.

Coder Mom Gets Mad At Her Son For Using His Resources
So, here the thing. We live in the future. If you don't know something, you look it up. The way we give tests needs to be reassessed.
Closed book testing needs to go away. Not once in my career have I not been allowed to look something up if I don't know it. Memorizing absolutely everything is not how it works in the real world. Teach them good research skills and how to critically analyze information instead.
Oh man, I have a thing with Alice Keeler. She's a known tech/teaching blogger in the education world. She sucks. That is all.
With no way of monitoring the kids taking the test, most likely the questions are adjusted for that. So either you cannot find the specific answer online (e.g. math problems) or you need to write something that shows you understand the problem, not just give a single word answer.

Where exactly are the sexual/frightening/violent parts of this movie? I don't remember them being in there.
like people fake rating restaurants that have been close for months because of Covid
Common Sense Media is a cesspool of shitty reviews from soccer moms, either claiming that a work not even made for kids is "inappropriate" for them (usually just because they're animated), or that an otherwise innocuous work for kids should be R-rated because of one PG-rated moment.
Not Only That, But Those Quotations Too!!
It's usually rather the well-off people who do this kind of thing.
Load More Replies...My dad do this everytime we go anywhere where they have children discount. He thinks it's funny. I AM 30!
my mom did the opposite with me, said i was five when i was 4 so i could do this elsa sledding thing at disneyland (i was the right height and very close to being five)
Because I was a very small kid, my parents continued to claim I was under 6 on to get the cheap ferry fee until I was ten. I'm not made at them for it.
Got This Beauty From A Parenting Sub!
if the child has special needs then i can understand the parent wanting to stay with her but if not its either creepy or helicopter parenting
imo, this is only ok if the kid is under 7, has rare allergies, or wants the parent to be there.
Do Idiots In Truck Beds Count?
Eh, I dunno about this one. I used to ride in the back of the ute, but on the other hand it wasn't in traffic.
Even without traffic the driver can lose control of the vehicle and get in accident. Not very hard to imagine what will happen to the kids when that happens. So it's just a stupid thing to do.
Load More Replies...Ok so rules now make this reckless, but in the 70s and prior, this was regular and not seen as neglect, just the norm.
This was the norm since trucks were created. I grew up doing this regularly and nobody in my entire life ever fell out or was in an accident.
Load More Replies...A friend of my brother's was killed at age 17 while riding in the back of a pickup. The truck crashed and he was thrown out.
I went to visit my grandfather one summer on his quiet rural farm. I begged and begged him to take me somewhere and let me ride in the back of his truck, but he refused and wouldn't talk about it. When I complained to my aunt about it, she told me that he used to drive the neighborhood kids around in the bed of his pickup truck, but there had been an accident and a bunch of them died. I never asked again.
One bump in the road and there’s gonna be a possible death, fkn idiot parents
I am 35 years old and remember riding in the back of trucks all through my childhood up into my teens. In small rural/farming communities like mine, this is normal.
Ghost Baby
Ikr I don’t know whether to upvote because it’s funny or downvote because it doesn’t fit the topic 🤣
Load More Replies...This is HORRIBLE parenting! You aren't going to go save your baby from a ghost??? Sheesh. Parents these days! I would have sent my wife in there immediately if I saw this.
I know you’re joking, but I always wonder why people think ghosts are always out to do harm to the living.
Load More Replies...It’s bad parenting because there are not supposed to be loose covers that could suffocate the baby. Jfc.
There aren't loose covers. It's been pulled back deliberately to show the image underneath clearly by daylight. It's a normal fitted cot sheet when baby is sleeping on it.

Yes, they can. Had the same issue with my son. He is now 22 and still loves buttons!!
At 3, my son removed the interior door panel of my car WITHOUT damaging the christmas tree fasteners. (He was playing inside while I washed it) So I have no problem believing a 2year old did this.
i don't see anything wrong here. my sister and i played with this old mac of my mother's (circa 2009). it didn't work well, so she upgraded, but it worked well enough for us to play on it. when i was 3 or so, she'd let me play on google doc and "write a book".
How is this toxic parenting??? Kids are naturally curious. My friend always told her kids to get a higher education, one did just this, took things apart, dropped out of high school to work fixing computers, he brings in ten times her salary and has no student loan debt.
Well, actually, it can be very bad if the kid starts popping the keys into his mouth and starts choking on them. It’s one of the reasons the Choking Hazard labels are required on products that have small parts.
Load More Replies...Do not underestimate 2 years old. I know that I cannot get the keys out, but I would bet that my kids will do it without any problems.

Not teaching your 6 year old not to draw on furniture. Come on, that is the parenting fail, not the fact that he has white furniture.
Having permanent markers where your 6yo can get hold of them is dumb parenting.
all of this... I mean why white furniture if you have kids? it's always going to be dirty... why having permanent markers at a kids reach? do you know kids? they chew stuff those are super toxic...
A lot of these left me speechless with horror. Some people really should not have children. Or be near children. Or be near anyone at all.
I will say one sentence, ten words about that I think of this: all children deserve parents, but not all parents deserve children.

My childhood was pretty monstrous. I won't bother you with details, but whatever bad thing you can imagine happening to a child, I had some of that. The reason I say this is that I know what it feels like to think that being totally alone in the world is better than being with the people you are forced to be around, but feeling alone leaves you totally lost and empty. I am now well into adulthood, and I have made a good life for myself. I have dealt with my horrible past and have moved beyond it. I am a happy person. If there is someone out there feeling like they are living a nightmare, and nothing can ever change, if there is someone out there thinking they can't go on anymore, I just want you to know that life DOES change, and it DOES get better, and the second you are an adult (or like me, can get legally emancipated and live independently from the age of 16), the world is a very, very different place. Do not despair. Do not give up. There is hope. You are not alone.
