Let’s face it, parenting is one of the biggest challenges that we’ll ever have to face in our lives. It’s right up there alongside fighting off an alien invasion, surviving a zombie apocalypse, rocket science, and plugging in a USB cable on the first try. So it’s no wonder that most parents are less than perfect. In fact, it’s pretty much the norm.

However, they’re nowhere near the level that some of the parents featured on the ‘Parents Are Effing Dumb’ subreddit are. There, you’ll find some of the biggest fails that will make you gasp, shout “think of the children!”, and think about taking these people’s parenting license away. Remember to buckle up and upvote the pics that made your jaw drop as you scroll down the rollercoaster that is this descent into parenting weirdness.

When it comes to parenting, both extremes—absolute perfectionism/trying to be a ‘perfect’ parent and not trying hard enough—can be harmful to the family. And while it’s very clear what bad parenting is, perfectionism is more insidious and sneaky and can actually end up being just as harmful as actual neglect or ignorance, though in a very different way. We spoke about the pitfalls of this with an expert in the field of psychology.

This is a good burn, but it's misleading in a dangerous way. Measles is a disease for which vaccination produces herd immunity. This means that individual antivaxxers who are surrounded by people who do vaccinate can be protected by them, but when there are more antivaxxers, they spread the disease to each other and then to the small percentage of non-vaccinated people who did not develop immunity and those who could not be vaccinated for legitimate reasons. (Many of the non-immune vaccinated and those who could not be vaccinated have compromised immunity, which can put them more at risk if they do get sick.) So even if you buy into the whole sick "my child my choice" attitude of people who don't vaccinate (and apparently see their children as just another of their personal possessions), antivaxxers are not just endangering themselves and their children. They are being selfish and endangering the community as a whole.

I was a kid before the measles vaccine was available, and I got measles. My family home was quarantined, my mother wasn’t allowed to leave even to go to work (My dad had measles in the Army during the war; that’s another unhappy tale.) My mother hung all the windows with red flannel, which was believed to protect you from going blind. Regardless of that, I suffered a partial vision loss and a partial hearing loss. I also had mumps and chicken pox. Why in the name of hell would anyone risk their kids when they don’t have to?

BOOM! Unfortunately logic only fuels the antivax delusions. I must admit I am a reformed antivaxxer. My kid wasn’t vaccinated until he was 4 and starting pre-k. I have hope that there are others that will realize their “beliefs” are rooted in fear. The century worth of science and research can penetrate even the most stubborn of minds. But there are also social justice issues that have paved the way for distrust in science and the government. In those cases, education provided with compassion and not dismissal can go a long way.

Getting vaccinated with FDA approved drugs when young such as measles and mumps is one thing but getting vaccinated for covid with a drug that hasn't been through the full set of testing by the FDA and your child would be used as one of the test subjects per se before it was fully approved isn't wise is my opinion. I would not do that to my child. My job is to protect my child, not jump on a peer pressure bandwagon.

Heartbreaking, here is how I survived. I pictured the words as little flying darts, I envisioned that I would step aside and let them fly right by, to not get any on me. To remind myself that there is always someone trying to bring you down. Recognize it has nothing to do with you, it’s there issue. Then limit your engagement, if they say “finally”, just agree say “yeah, right, amazing I could get it together”. This basically steals their fire. Get on YouTube and look up the videos on how to deal with narcissism. Take care, stay safe, drop the burden of believing there is a problem with you.

Emma Morton, a researcher at the University of British Columbia, explained to Bored Panda the pitfalls of perfectionist thinking and how it spreads to many areas of a person’s life, contributing to poor mental health and even depression.

Believing that you should (or even that you can) be a so-called ‘perfect’ parent is actually detrimental to your health. What’s more, the belief that you can control every single outcome can spread to other areas of your life, not just parenting.

It sounds as if the text is describing parents who are strict about everything because they don't want to deal with anything inconvenient. This is different from some parents I've known who might be strict about certain things (such doing homework and doing their share of chores, because that helps them with their futures) but very open about others (their children are allowed to speak their minds because the parents want communication).

My babysitters sons raped me when I was 5. I told my mom and she told me I was a liar because they're "good boys" and if I wasn't lying, it was probably my fault anyway for being such a whore. Took me 8 more years to learn what a whore was. No amount of therapy has ever been able to get me past my trust issues. I'm 45, have never had a healthy relationship. I seek out abusive people who use me because deep down I truly believe that I am subhuman and that hate and pain is my lot in life. I have overcompensated with my kids at times because I would never ever want any of them to grow up and feel like I do.

You were a child, barely out of your toddler years, when you were violently assaulted and then utterly betrayed by the one person who was supposed to protect you. Five-year old you NEVER deserved that and ADULT you doesn't deserve to feel the way you still do. I'm happy to read you protect your children; I hope you can extend that same love, care, and compassion to yourself, both your adult self and the little girl who was raped and then abandoned by her mother. You and Younger You deserve to feel as safe and loved as your own children do. Have a peaceful day. xoxo

I had spent almost a year on that app, and didnt back it up since I didnt know how. Still pissed today

In a family, it's absolutely ok to have "your cookies". But you should also know that you have to eat everything you really want to eat on the spot or hide it away. If you leave it anywhere, it's your own fault if it's gone. That's one of my earliest life lessons^^

As a parent, anytime I read something like this, I get a bit nauseous. I've tried to imagine being able to do this to someone and I can't. It deeply disturbs me to know this actually happens and I can't shake that feeling for hours afterwards. To anyone who has this or any other humiliation happen to them, I'm truly sorry for you. My aunt died suddenly of a brain aneurysm. She was 35. It was devastating to our family, especially her husband (my dad's brother) and children. We received that awful phone call around 2 am. My dad crawled into bed w/ my sister (8) & I (10). He held us and sobbed as he told us our aunt had died. The next day, my mother 'confronted' us kids. She angrily asked if we had "laughed" when our dad told us about our aunt, apparently because he was crying. I feel I must've had the most disgusted look on my face that a child could muster, because that's what I felt at my mother, absolute disgust. I simply told her "No.", but that was the exact moment I knew I was smarter than, and had better sense than she did. That was 35 years ago, and I wasn't wrong.

It was a bit of the opposite for me growing up since I had a choice about it. My adult cousin smoked weed as self medication and needed a job. He asked my mom for her pee last minute before his start date but she couldn't do it physically due to some issues. So he asked me. I was about 7 at the time. I said sure as long as I got $10. I was a little hustler back then. He got the job and I was happy. I thought I had good-luck pee or something. Later I realized it was because of marijuana testing.

Well.. the day my parents showed up at a school meeting with my teacher, completely drunk. Smelling of beer from a mile away. That day I got the impression there was something very wrong with them. Also the continuous fighting at night. When they both were drunk. Was a pretty big give away that I was stuck with 2 people that shouldn't have had kids.

These parents had kids to be able to punish them, like they were punished, or worse. " Because I didn't get this or that, or to do whatever it is, YOU, will pay for it now!" Their frustration and anger at their own parents must've been horrible, not being able to take it out on them, they had to have someone to take the blame. Not understanding their own behavior, they just set up another cycle of anger and frustration and awful treatment. Then, when the kid grows up and leaves home forever, wants to know why they kid won't come home or see them? They sadly, have no understanding of what happened at all. To them, or what they did to their kid(s).

Sometimes I wonder if the parents are just looking for any excuse/reason to destroy the confidence of their child/children. Oh, and art is "just a hobby" so destroying hours and hours of work is really nothing to get upset about. I want to smack adults that give that message to children.

The anxiety surrounding perfectionism is just as much about personal pride as it is about the desire to be respected and liked by others. “People who struggle with perfectionism may worry that they will be judged for their perceived failures, feel that they are inadequate for needing help, or assume they will be a burden on their family and friends,” she said, adding that this can make perfectionists especially vulnerable mentally and emotionally.

Honey, I’m glad you are still alive. Next it sounds like your parents are engaging in magical thinking. They probably do not know how to deal with the situation, your parents need counseling and it probably would not hurt you to be in counseling as well, you need better told in your toolbox to deal with the stresses of being raised by parents engaging in magical thinking. NOTE: shop for a good therapist, not all of them make a good fit. Then think about getting yourself to s as safer place to live. This. I am truly impressed with my autistic son. I watched an anti-vaxxer's head nearly explode when I told her I didn't care if vaccines cause autism (they don't. I know) because my son isn't broken, he's just extraordinary.

Legit answer: They don't understand correlations and causality. Because autism typically presents itself as a "regression" at around the same age a young child is given a routine set of vaccinations, they believe these things are linked. Answer I'd love to give: they are despicable hateful narrow minded people who cannot accept anything outside what they perceive as "normal" and that mother should be forced to walk around with a sandwich board proclaiming her stupidity and child abuse

As a parent, my biggest concern was that my children would experiment with sex before they were mature enough to handle any of the possible consequences. Sex can sometimes result in some life-changing outcomes (early pregnancy, stds, being exploited, etc.). My attitude didn't prevent me from teaching them all I could or pointing them to reliable sources of information though. As for the post, the son was more grounded in reality than the parent.

What about teaching them that sex is not so poor as the pleasure of enjoying chocolate? If you depreciate sex to be another way of joy as listening music, or winning a sport match, what poor life they will have!

At least her kid was being responsible having the condoms to avoid having a kid, but she screwed that up. Be proud of your kid for having the brains to have them in the first place. She should be stuck taking care of her grandkid now.

Better for kids to be making bad decisions (such as sex as a teenager) than worse decisions (such as unprotected sex as a teenager). Talk to them about your beliefs regarding when it is appropriate to have sex, but taking away their contraception will only make it worse.

My mother is very, very religious (Catholic), and doesn't agree with sex before marriage. So when she found my condom when I was 20, I thought she would have taken it off me and lectured me about the sins of sex before marriage. But she had better sense, and simply asked me to respect my gf and treat her well.

My first boyfriend's older sister directed me to Planned Parenthood to get on the pill, I was 16 and lived with my dad. When I was 18 and moving out of state with a different bf I met my mom, my aunt and her abusive girlfriend for drinks. My aunts gf pulled me aside to have a talk to make sure I was on birth control because my mom couldn't ask. Yep. Amazing I never got pregnant. Thank you Planned Parenthood!

Opposite story found my son’s used condom, told him I had. We then had a long discussion about how proud I was of him, for trying to do the right thing. PS. He knew because his father and I were married when my husband was 19 and I was 18, pregnant. I never hid that fact from any of my four kids.

Physical and psychological damages caused by child marriages in Iran have many irreparable adverse consequences on the lives of young women, particularly those who get pregnant under 18 years of age. Cool cool cool cool cool. Idiot

As such, it’s very important that parents who make mistakes with their kids don’t overcorrect and land in the ‘perfectionist’ zone. Similarly, any parents who realize that they’re being inflexible with their standards and are overly critical of their and their kids’ (real or perceived) faults need to learn to hold back and allow room for (at least some) failure. After all, learning to deal with failure and drawing wisdom from our mistakes is what being human is all about. One thing's for sure, though: nobody wants to be that parent who ends up on 'Parents Are Effing Dumb.'

Quite recently, my wife and I sat our 10-month-old in his pram in our garden. I thought she strapped him in, and she thought I did. Of course, he leaned forward and fell out, banging his head on the patio (fortunately, no serious injury, just a bruise). Imagine that happened in this situation.

The worst part is the St John's wort could have at least made you feel worse, possibly killed you when taken with your other meds. It can intensify the effects and side effects of other meds, supplements, herbs. Alternative remedies can be very effective . WHEN TAKEN PROPERLY. With the realization that every remedy, whether herbs, oils or even Dr prescribed meds, has limits, interactions, toxicity levels, and so on These people who read a paragraph on Pinterest or an article in Mother Earth News and think they know all are like eating tin to me. I say that as someone who carefully uses alternatives

It's called aromatherapy not aroma magic. I view them as a supplement, something to enjoy in addition to what the doctor prescribed. A nice scent makes me feel good in the moment but medication is for the long-term. Being in good health is a multi tier process. Prescribed medicine is good but you have to look after your emotional well being too. Essential oil and worry stones help me there but I do also take an antidepressant.

I, female, grew 2 more inches after 18. I always said I was 5' 6" and then a few years later I went to the Dr. and 5' 8" so I guess I just never measured myself. I wore heals a lot so I was already taller than people. So I short changed myself for a while 😂

Yeah a, not attempt to block the kids faces or protect their identity. They seem to be pawns in a horrible game. I'm taking deep breaths, I have a friend who has a kid who's been through hell coz of one party using him as a tool of control. He's coming along in leaps and bounds but there is one more legal hurdle (refusing medical assistance and funding for his mental health needs at present, although custody has had to have moved away from 50/50 to every second weekend for said party for child's mental wellbeing, the other party is still legally able to block access to this assistance for the child. One more case and we are done I hope!!)

My guess is that he came to drop them off before she felt his week was up. They probably fell asleep in his truck or car in the car seats. My guess is she threw a fit, but was in the vicinity of the porch so he left the sleeping kids in the car seats on the porch assuming that she would then take it from there..... Unfortunately that's exactly what she did.

My cousin was a little c**t, set fires, beat up/injured younger siblings, stole money, pushbikes, just basically ran amok. His four siblings weren’t safe around him, and when at 9 yo he tried to light his little sister on fire because he thought ‘it would be funny to watch her screaming and running around on fire!’ That was the last straw, his father snapped and smacked him hard. Really hard. Cousin was stunned, ran off crying. They only smacked him when he tried to hurt someone else, and, after about 2 years, when he saw they wouldn’t stop until he did, he wised up and figured when he behaved, he didn’t get smacked. He graduates high school this year (which didn’t look like it would even be a thing at 5yrs ago, more like prison.) has a part time job, and has turned right around. My aunt and uncle never raised a hand to any of their kids before this, so he just took the ball and ran with it, like haha, you can’t stop me, until they did. The other 4 kids never acted like this.

Kids need to learn through words. Not violence. Maybe explain what happens if they do sh** like this imstead of beating them. That makes you no better than your kid and if you want to teach them to be better than show them ways to be better and be the role model your child needs to be better.

This is why teachers had such a hard time returning to schools in the beginning. We knew a lot of parents wouldn't accurately report symptoms (based on years of personal experience, I know to ask children did mommy give you red liquid in a cup today?). COVID finally made a lot teachers stand up for themselves and say my family is more important than teaching.

My aunt, uncle, and one of my little cousins all tested positive for COVID. My other cousin, who lived with them, tested negative... so the school said he needed to come in since it was negative. I couldn't believe it. False negatives can happen and it seems such an unnecessary chance to take.

My granddaughter works as a teacher's assistant with needs kids at a local school. She got sent home 10 times last years because of potential exposure to kids sent to school after tested positive. It is prevalent in red counties.

My MIL collects golli-dolls. I asked her mother (my wife's grandmother) about it a few years back. She told me that after the war, they were left with nothing, rationing was the only thing keeping them fed. She was out begging one day with her infant child (my MIL) and someone gave her a golli doll and she has kept it ever since. The doll, to my MIL, was the first and only gift she would receive as a child and holds huge sentimentality, if her house caught fire, she would try to save them, before her husband. She knows and understands why they are racist, but for her, they represent something else, kindness, charity, safety and childhood.

My grandmother and her friends toiled for weeks to knit me a golli when i was a newborn, none of them could get the hair right so it got passed pretty much every elderly or knitting enthusiast for miles around until a lovely old lady managed to master it. That doll is still sitting proudly in my display case not only as a symbol of love from grand parent to grand child but also a community rallying around to do a nice thing (for context I’m very dark skinned mixed race)

Ok, so I read, like, every single comment here in search of a reason as to why this is racist, and I haven't found any actual reasons here - I can Lily Mae Kitty hating on everybody who doesn't know and calling them idiots, saying that black children with watermelons is racist, but WHY is it racist??? I went to the Wikipedia link that Ienka sent, but it didn't really explain much other than the stereotype that African American people love watermelons. Is that it? Is that the only reason?? Can someone please RESPECTFULLY (hint hint, don't react like Lily Mae Kitty did) explain to me how this is racist?

It was steretypically believed that watermelon and fried chicken were "black people" food, particularly after slavery and during the 20th-century re-hash of slavery known as sharecropping. For African-Americans, that image reminds them of slavery, KKK, lynchings, etc. So.... kinda like if you showed all Jews like Hitler did would be offensive to Jews. it's a stereotype created not by them, but by the oppressor. Did that help?

It’s amazing how Americans assume the whole world knows everything about their problems with racism. It’s kind of cultural colonialism - you don’t know why we think watermelon eaten by a black kid is racist? You’re an uneducated idiot! Oh, you are from Czech, Modlavia, Ukraine, Korea or any other country with no black slaves history? It doesn’t justify you! The whole world should be aware of our cultural problems!

OMG, whyyy, why are you so triggered, that there are people who don"t know, that every second thing in USA is considered racist? Isn't this the sign that some people are just not rasist exactly because they don't see anything wrong with that??!! In my deepest mind I wouldn't guess, that black doll with meloon is som stereotype. I didn't even know what to google! It was like: "mayby the problem is the tabasco? Or the shape of those dolls." Please note, that not only USA people are here. Some (I would guess actually many) states/cultures have aboslutely different situation and we just don't get those things. So please STOP INSULTING agressively those people!

I'm not sure the average person would be familiar with the mocking stereotype of African Americans having a great appetite for watermelons; I hadn't heard of this until clicking the link to the wikipedia article in lenka's comment. Maybe these parents didn't mean anything racist by it, they just thought the decorations were generic kids eating fruit.

Since we're on a bad parenting thread this comment section reminds me of one of the mistakes parents (and others) can make. That's punishing them for not knowing things. It's not bad to educate others but the results will always be better if you approach it respectfully with children and with our peers. That's just what I always have found to be most effective.

Wait...he had an UNAVOIDABLE hospital visit? I mean the fact you'd make a 7 year old pay off their hospital bill no matter what is ridiculous but you're telling me he went to the ER for something completely out of his hands yet you're acting like it's his fault? My brain hurts trying to puzzle this out.

It's not acceptable in either case, but I feel like she meant "avoidable", and made a typo. It still is not okay and teaches kids "don't go to mom and dad in case of pain/emergency" which is INCREDIBLY wrong.

Bingo. And this does NOTHING but create resentment and retard a child's ability to establish boundaries. It does not keep kids safer, it breaks down parental/child trust, and makes a kid become VERY good at lying and sneaking around. They will still be teens, door or no door. Better have them trust and respect me with a door on their room, than take if off and lose that.

HERE WE GO AGAIN! I am a kid that has no privacy. My parents look through my stuff, look through my phone, and guess what? I'm constantly stressed. I don't even have anything bad, I don't do drugs, I don't drink alcohol, and I sure as hell am not sexually active. Nonetheless, the lack of privacy makes it a very stressful and uncomfortable environment to live in. I have, however, gotten really good at lying, hiding things, pretending to sleep, listening for footsteps and recognizing who's they are, where they are, and what they're doing.

Depression which lasts can be dangerous and needs to be dealt with. The best place to start is not to take the phone away, but to sit down and talk to the kid. Reassure the kid can come to you no matter what and that you will do your best to understand and work through it.

My father tried the smoking thing with my brother, who was 12 at that time. My brother smoked 20 cigarettes, showed not a sign of sickness and got on to be a smoker until he was in his 50ies, when he gave it up.

This one mentions the old "make them smoke until they puke" punishment. It is possible to overdose on nicotine so making someone who is likely a novice smoker smoke until they puke is not only cruel but also dangerous.

This isn't bad parenting either. Their mother probably saw something in them and still sees it. It's a parent encouraging their child. Lucky for them. I never got that. My parents did a great job of never encouraging me, never believing in me and never telling me I was good at anything which has left me with a gut wrenching feeling of uselessness that has followed me right up to my forties.

    Sebastian Erasmy

In my case, my mother was convinced I'm a genius, so she expected me to excel at everything, which I didn't. I was always a mediocre student in anything relating to science and I just went through school with an average grade. She was always disappointed, she always made me feel like I was worthless. Whenever I got a good grade, she would wonder why it wasn't the best grade. I'd rather she had encouraged me and supported me instead of always expecting me to be perfect. I'm 34 now and I can't stand her.

My Mom somehow knows everything about me, which makes sense as she does listen. My dad on the other hand can't remember stuff he's repeatably been told for over 8 years, even when it's been used as an example of how little he listens. I started to tell a them about getting my jab, when dad started nit picking something irrelevant. I decided who cares I'm not going to bother telling it then. But once I said I wouldn't tell them, dad got curious and started asking questions. Each of which Mom answered at length. I feel both betrayed and flattered.

It was no big deal. You had a note from your mom, and they gave you the cigs. It was a different time then, and really not that scandalous. It's not like the clerk made you smoke one before selling them to you. It was actually pretty nice to grow up in a time when things like this that weren't causing harm to anyone weren't freaked out over by people looking to get offended by anything.

What's wrong with "Peace"? It's a beautiful name, and not even "modern", unless you mean in the sense of "post-Enlightenment". I'm super confused about why this one is here. It doesn't make sense if you're referring to her surname, since that isn't even "chosen" and is also really, really old.

This is not bad parenting. While a child this size does not strictly need to be in the 5 point harness, he DOES need to be in a booster with a headrest and side impact protection (the wings on the headrest). The mother posted to a parents group (not the child's school) in an attempt to educate other parents on car seat safety.

Bad parenting after he said he was being ridiculed by his friends for having a baby seat so she posts it so hundreds of thousands of people can see. A child that age should be able to decide whether or not he wants his photo shared publicly especially to that many people. A real parent would have kept this picture private. She is right to keep him in the seat or at least got him a booster to make him feel better and just as safe.

Try and look up statistics on parents who encourage their kids being bullied... I don't mind him being in a car seat, but taking a pic and posting it....

I can keep my child safe and not post a picture of him online that will get him bullied. She wants to be right so bad that she is willing to humiliate her son to do it. This is what's so evil. It's like parents who post when their 1st graders have potty accidents. Just do your job, take care of your kid, and stop looking for validation from strangers on the internet.

I'm in my 30s and if I ever visit Stockholm, I'm bringing my mother with me and will cram myself into a stroller just to prove a point. Children ride free, you say? Good, because I am her child. Now give me my free ride!

Seven year olds are legally mandated to use booster seats. This seat is safer than others so mom is just trying to protect her kid. Bullying should stop, safety seating shouldn't.

as someone who just took drivers ed, i can say u are required to be in a car seat if they are below 4’9 and 8 and under. however if he is 7 and 4’9 he can be out of the car seat. i think this post is crazy and i think he can at least be in a booster seat, just making sure y’all know the laws. also, as someone who was in a car seat very similar to that one until they were 11 (got moved to a booster seat when i was 12) i can confirm kids can be VERY mean about it.

To be honest, I would prefer to listen to whistle than screaming/crying child. It is same as I would prefer to be kicked in butt insted of slapped across face, two bad options, but still I would prefer the whistle. Still I believe that there could be a better solution, like giving the kid a pack of cards.

One time I was waiting for my flight, and this kid kept coming up to be and just standing in front of me. Keep in mind this is during covid and his mask was below his nose. He was probably like 4 or something, and his parents told him to come back to them. He did, and then started screaming and throwing a tantrum. They didn’t do anything. Nothing at all. Smh

Like the woman in Kroger that let her child scream at the top of her lungs in the store setting off every hearing aid within the building. When we asked her to get the child to stop, her response was "OMG you people are so cruel! Stifling her creativity! She's just singing!" Great...there's talent agents outside the store. Take her out and see if they want to sign her to a record deal.

A small kid (4 yo) once called me a whore. What did I do? I asked him what it meant. He couldn't reply and smiled. I explained to him that if he liked someone, he shouldn't call them that. He never called me a whore again. It's not that difficult.

I once showed my middle finger to my uncle because I wanted to show him my nail polish. Only after he asked me why I was doing this I realized that this was an offensive gesture. Kids just aren't aware of these things yet, it's just a word/gesture just like any other to them.

Please don't give your young children phones. It's going to suck them in and they'll spend their childhood on a screen, missing all the great moments of having not a care in the world. As someone who actually had a childhood because my parents were strict on screens, it was great. I got addicted to Youtube around 11 and that was it. I had grown up in 2 seconds. I definitely regret it, but I can't do anything about it now. I just wish I could have been a child a bit longer.

My son has an old Note 5. It has educational games his teacher recommended and coloring books. He doesn't use it all day and we treat it like no big deal. He has to learn to live with smartphones and I would rather make it a mundane part of the day instead of a special treat. I'm more concerned with this mom punishing her 2-year-old for "possibly" saying a bad word. Kids mispronounce things at that age and she's freaking out. I fear for when this kid says truck wrong.

We have a son who and daughter who both got hand me down phones. No texting/ calling service but they could connect to the wireless internet. It was great that they were tech savvy enough to continue to thrive during home schooling due to the pandemic! We never had an issue monitoring their content or limiting screen time. Most people on here acting ridiculous about the kid having a phone are more than likely picturing a two year old with a brand new, fully functional iPhone. 😂

Being rude and judgy about parents wanting to have a fail safe is being a bad person. Sleep deprived parent + change in routine + quiet sleeping baby can lead to tragic ACCIDENTS. I never forgot my baby in the car but I did make other mindlessly stupid mistakes due to exhaustion and distraction that could have had tragic consequences. Any parent who claims they haven't accidentally done something potentially dangerous is probably lying.

Excuse me?? How is this posted under "Toxic parents who never should have had children"? For starters, any parent using this seems great to me. Extra safety measures. Secondly, don't ever imply only "bad" parents forget their kids. A rushed morning, a change in routine, a sleeping child, stress.. There are so many examples of wonderful parents who made this one, horrible mistake and will never ever forgive themselves for it, even though it could happen to the best of us.

This one is actually brilliant. Does not make you a bad parent if you are sleep deprived, and especially if it is not usual for you to have a baby in the car. This needs to be removed.

The people who are judging parents who have this sort of fail safe device are the people who won't have such a fail safe device, and who will, in fact, forget their child in a hot car. Get sleep deprived and frazzled enough, and you WILL do this. Unless you foresee yourself being sleep deprived and frazzled enough to do this, and come up with a prevention strategy. What next - judging people who get into car accidents for wanting to kill someone?

This usually happens when there's a change in routine, like the wife is sick, so dad drops the kid off at daycare but reverts to his normal routine and drives straight to work. That's why memory aids like this are such a great thing. My sister used a coiled tether between the car seat and her purse - the purse was right up in the front seat with her and she *never* left her purse in the card -- she had to unclip her purse from the car seat before leaving the car.

I have always felt that just as cars do a bing-bing if you leave the lights on when you are exiting a car, car seats could be fitted with a device that if there is any weight in the seat, as soon as you open the door, it does an bing-bing sound. It would be hard for people to forget their kids if this very, very simple system was in place.

You could teach him the valuable lesson that, no matter how hard he works and how good he follows rules, people with power (you in that case) will never let him see a reward for it, let alone have some time to relax and recharge. That will teach him a lot about life. Or push him to burnout/suicide and stuff.

A friend's son spent an inordinate amount of time playing videos. Even though he was getting good grades in school and pulling his weight with household chores, the parents were concerned. But instead of punishing him, the father taught his son how to build a computer. He's also learning to code. You just never know how their interests can develop, so don't stifle it.

Then you have a whole different issue. At the same time it's their fault that they don't teach him about it t condoms and stuff.

Playing video games actually results in increased brain power. Not quite like reading, but it expands eye/hand co-ordination, the ability to make decisions quickly and knowing that you are totally responsible for the fate of your character.

If you're concerned about screen time being bad for your child. Don't set limits, instead do everything you know is good for a child's development before settling down in front of TV. Such as going for a walk, making crafts, playing outside etc.

I'll never neuter my boys, I really don't want to harm their hormone system or physical integrity. They are well socialized and have never been aggressive to anyone, and even if they were, neutering doesn't solve the problem. I think humans should just look more that dogs don't mate instead of blaming it on the dog, it's not that hard to make sure my dogs don't stroll after females. I'd also be terribly afraid one dies at the surgery.

As they dont make you take shoes off when measuring people for rides, I think they have leeway by several inches to accomodate those who have a wedge in their shoes, particularly females where it can make more than an inch's difference. I don't see this one as that bad, it's one inch.

The problem isn't their overall height, it's where the harness fits their shoulders and torso.

That is a complete a-hole of a mother. I have a bird and all three of my parents have taken care of her when I’ve been away places. But if they didn’t for some reason like that one mom did, and Skittles died because of it, then they will be removed from my life. I love my bird. She’s one of the only good friends I get to see during lockdown. I feel so bad for the owner.

Block her out of your life. You are not allowed to see her anymore? Goes both ways; she is not even allowed to say your name ever again. Make it that she can never even find you both through media or physically. Like she does not need your home address, any contact info, hell put a full restraining order on her for good measure too.

You pretty much nailed it. In the Bible there's all this stuff about being kind and helping people and spreading God's love. All these stupid "Christians" need to be given the real old versions of the Bible which are NOT mistranslated or misinterpreted, because this religion is starting to look ridiculous.

There was a story, I can't remember exactly what it was. But a man was drowning and people went to save him. He kept saying that no, he did not need help, God loved him. Helicopter? No, God loved him, God would save him. He died, and went to Heaven. When he got there, he demanded to know why God didn't save him, and why God didn't love him. God replied, "I sent you a helicopter. I sent you people to save you. What the hell are you doing here?" (NOT THE EXACT WORDS BUT THAT'S A SUMMARY)

I thought it was very important to apologize to my daughter If I had been unjust/wrong. So she would know I felt sorry and everyone can make mistakes. And regret it afterwards. As a teenager she told me she still remembers those apologies and it Made her feel good that I said she was right and I was wrong. I really think some parents are afraid if they admit that they are wrong their children stop believing in them ..when it is absolutely the opposite. I am glad I never pretended to be omniscient.

My stop mother used to do stuff like this. One time, I spent hours cleaning my room. I had even washed my windows and obsessively organized the clothes in my dresser. I called her in expecting her to be proud, but it soon became obvious that she was searching for something to be critical about. As she was opening my desk and my dresser, huffing and looking angrier and angrier, the cat came in and went under my bed. After opening everything that could be opened and finding it pristine, she looked under the dust ruffle of my bed where the cat had played with one shoe that was now on it's side next to a perfectly lined up row of my other shoes. She started screaming about how messy it was and how I was such a rebellious little brat refusing to clean my room. She went and told my dad my room was a mess and I got grounded.

Any burning ritual, kind of feels agressive and indoctrinated to me. Except maybe burning bad memories as a way to let go. But I don't think the world becomes a better place from burning books, flags, masks, crosses, dolls of gay people (Poland I believe?).

How is it not? If the claims of the religion are so true, why not wait until the person is of the age of reason to present those claims to them? Why not wait until someone is around 16 years old before telling them certain religious claims?

poor public design. It's in a public park and it's fascinating and kids will %100 want to touch it. Memorials are best when interactive, but it's the job of the people creating the memorial to not make a no go zone that is more fun to visit than a sand pit.

I know I'm going to get downvoted, but I will admit I smoked when I was pregnant and all my kids were healthy. I cut down a lot, but when I tried to quit cold turkey it caused so much stress on my body my doctor was more worried about that due to possibly miscarrying, so I cut way down. I eventually finally quit with lots of help. But for some it's not that easy. So yes, smoking is bad when pregnant and I got very lucky, but remember it's not always easy. It was also my only vice, never did drugs, never drank.

When he picks up speed the glass becomes a sail and the kids won't be able to hold it. Best case scenario the let go of the glass and it smashes in 1000 pieces. Worst case scenario, they try to hold on and get blown out of the truck, onto the concrete. But whatever happens they will get blamed.

Oh ffs--this was not a big deal. I took sips of my parent's drinks as a child. SIPS. I wanted to know how it tasted, and no harm was done. I did not get drunk, and I did not grow up to be an alcoholic. I rarely drink as an adult--a few glasses of wine a year and that's about it. Also, people need to stop thinking that North American culture is some kind of moral compass. In Italy and France, children will drink wine mixed with water with dinner. Jesus H. Christ, this scolding "woke" generation is a peevish pain in the ass.

I hate memes like this so much. And especially the ones which claim my generation is a bunch of wimps because we weren't forced to fight in WW2, which is just as insulting to the people who DID fight WW2. They laid down their lives so future generations wouldn't HAVE to. If you asked my great grandfather "hey, do you want your granddaughter to go through this too?" while he was stuck in the middle of all that, he'd have thought you were insane. Plus it completely disregards and disrespects all the people from my generation who enlisted, plenty of whom also died in the line of duty. Bah.

What is the scenario here? Did the op just buy the thing and toss it on her bed and then wander off? Did she open the box, remove the item, and just leave the trash on her bed? Did she take the time to put the item back in its original retail box after using it but not take the time to put the box away? This whole thing is BS. Great job publicly shaming your child and denigrating her education over something you totally made up and didn't even think through.

That is why there was a study and found that this type of targeting at school children with these concepts are leading to higher suicide rates among white students, who are told they are bad because the color of their skin. As well as a higher rate of them joining online white supremacists groups. Stop blaming people for the color of their skin and have a productive conversation about the history of race and progress in an age appropriate manner for each age group.

Closed book testing needs to go away. Not once in my career have I not been allowed to look something up if I don't know it. Memorizing absolutely everything is not how it works in the real world. Teach them good research skills and how to critically analyze information instead.

With no way of monitoring the kids taking the test, most likely the questions are adjusted for that. So either you cannot find the specific answer online (e.g. math problems) or you need to write something that shows you understand the problem, not just give a single word answer.

Common Sense Media is a cesspool of shitty reviews from soccer moms, either claiming that a work not even made for kids is "inappropriate" for them (usually just because they're animated), or that an otherwise innocuous work for kids should be R-rated because of one PG-rated moment.

this is why many Museums like the Met and AMNH are free with recommended "donations". Poor people can see all the great stuff in NYC and without paying. I understand why musuems charge, but there should be easier ways to help poor people get in.

Even without traffic the driver can lose control of the vehicle and get in accident. Not very hard to imagine what will happen to the kids when that happens. So it's just a stupid thing to do.

I went to visit my grandfather one summer on his quiet rural farm. I begged and begged him to take me somewhere and let me ride in the back of his truck, but he refused and wouldn't talk about it. When I complained to my aunt about it, she told me that he used to drive the neighborhood kids around in the bed of his pickup truck, but there had been an accident and a bunch of them died. I never asked again.

Hearing protection!! Hearing loss is cumulative. Due to the inverse-square law, that kid is being hit with 4 times as much sound as his father is (half the distance to the engine).

Well, actually, it can be very bad if the kid starts popping the keys into his mouth and starts choking on them. It’s one of the reasons the Choking Hazard labels are required on products that have small parts.
