Hello! My name is Aaron Mentzer, I'm a 25-year-old artist from Pennsylvania. For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to make a career out of cartooning and illustration. In 2021 I began attending The Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in New Jersey, a three-year technical school for commercial art with a focus on sequential narrative art and training related to work in visual art industries such as comics and animation. I am going to be entering my third, and final, year of the program this fall and will be graduating this coming May.

For the past two years, I have been able to attend the school thanks to the Pell Grant and other Federal and State aid. However, this past spring, the school announced some changes to the program that have resulted in government aid no longer being available. Due to the existing student loans that I have taken out, I am not able to qualify for private loans and do not have another option to afford the cost of tuition and housing.

I am currently working to be able to afford some of the costs and will be working throughout the school year to further ensure that I will be able to continue attending. While this will certainly make the cost of housing and living a little more manageable I cannot manage to work enough to cover the entire cost while attending classes and completing school work.

Displayed below are some examples of my recent work as well as a showcase of my improvement during my time at The Joe Kubert School.
