I Adopted 2 Street Dogs From Thailand Which Were Rescued From Being Skinned Alive
Three years ago I adopted two street dogs from a shelter in Thailand. The shelter takes in abused and sick street dogs, also known as “soi”, dogs in Thai.
I chose to adopt a senior dog named Por Gair. He had already lived for many years at the shelter, never being adopted. People always overlooked him because he didn’t look anything special. Turns out, he’s the most incredible soul ever. My second dog, Library was named like this by the staff because she was found behind the local library, in a sick state. She too, was overlooked due to her age.
In Thailand, there is a horrific illegal trade conducted by criminals. Dogs are stolen from the streets to be crammed in tiny cages and sent to neighbouring countries where they are slaughtered in the most cruel manners. Many countries consider dog meat as a delicacy. Sometimes, trucks with hundreds of dogs are intercepted at the boarder when trying to pass. Some of these dogs are taken in by the shelter.
