The majority of people get a pet after long consideration, planning and a drive to the local shelter. Then they spend some time getting to know their four-legged companion and if things go well, the lucky pet becomes a member of the family. However, some people have completely different stories to tell of how they were introduced to their pets and Jack Jokinen from Fishtown, Philadelphia may have the most unique one.

Recently a man named Jack Jokinen created a wholesome Twitter thread after a mystery puppy appeared in his home

Last week, Jack shared a wholesome incident on his Twitter account. On a Saturday morning, he was woken up by his wife saying that there’s an unknown dog in his house. “When we found Suzy it was a combination of scared and confused. We had no idea how she got here and worried someone was in our house. She was scared and shaking from being wet and cold,” Jack told Bored Panda.
Apparently my front door was WIDE open and he just walked in pic.twitter.com/okOkmcVZdr

The man proceeded to check the doors and windows which were all closed. Clearly, something was off. Where did this mystery puppy come from? Well, the only way to figure it out was to check the security cameras. That’s what Jack did and it turned out that the adorable puppy didn’t just appear out of thin air.

The video showed that Jack, who recently became a father, forgot to properly close his front door which was left wide open during the night. Here’s what happened next: a stray, injured and malnourished puppy was lumping down the street during the cold night and noticed an open door to the warm house. The puppy didn’t shy away from inviting herself in. Then a thoughtful stranger walked by and closed the door, unknowingly locking the dog inside and making her a member of the new family.

When Jack found the dog, he realized that she needs urgent help and took her to the vet. It was confirmed that the 8-year-old stray has no chip, is severely malnourished and injured. “Suzy has a heart murmur, hook worn, infected paws, pad damage and atrophy in one of the legs from it being so damaged. She needs a bunch of dental work but is very underweight so we need to get her weight up and have some tests to make sure she can be put under for procedures.”

Surely, Jack knew that somebody has to take good care of this dog and instead of surrendering her to the shelter, he welcomed the new pup into his home. He named the lucky dog Suzy who now lives with Jack’s family and another dog George. “We decided to adopt her because she had no owner, and our first dog George has brought us so much joy, we could imagine just putting her in the system,” he said.

“She has been great with our family, including our baby. She is very sweet and just wants to be loved. Suzy is on the mend and getting better every day. Her body is filling out and she is on antibiotics to treat some of her problems. Shes got a long road ahead but is on the way,” Jack told us.

He constantly updated people on the situation and told them that he’s adopting the puppy

The wholesome story quickly went viral with many people left in awe of this lucky coincidence which saved Suzy’s life. However, the family was left with a hefty $1000 bill after the vet visit and are asking people for donations. You can donate via Jokinen’s Venmo account and PayPal account.

“The twitter thread took a life of its own. I never expected it to turn into this but Suzy is now the internets dog. People have donated about $18k towards Suzy’s medical bills. We hope they arent that high and we can take the remaining funds to donate to a worthwhile cause.”

Bless that man and his family! The security camera footage was so sweet...she walked by, but just knew she would be safe there so she came back
What a great man and amazing family! I just love this story....And like he said whoever had this beautiful baby prior is a shitty person. Please keep updated on her progress!
Agreed! Agreed! Agreed!
Sorry, how do we know that she was previously owned and wasn't some street-born stray?
What an awesome dog and an awesome man! We should care for God's creatures
yes. even spiders. spiders are SO misunderstood!!! like, even though we fear them, it doesn't give us the right to kill them. without spiders, mosquitoes would be killing people a whole lot faster. I love spiders. even jumping spiders. but my mom hates them. but even thought she hates them, she still calls me to get the spider and take it outside. she knows spiders are helpful to the planet! so instead of killing, shes helping. I want everyone with arachnophobia to take a moment to think about this, and next time you encounter a spider, just peacefully grab a cup, slide a piece of under it, and take the spider outside without doing any harm. you don't know how much this could make a difference to our planet.
I so agree, I always take spiders carefully outside to find a new home full of yummy bugs. I tell my son (9)too, imagine you were their size and they were your size, what would you want them to do? He totally gets it, he says goodbye to the spiders or whatnot when we release them outside
I've always been afraid of spiders but never wanted to kill them. I've overcome my fear for most of them but even if I do get scared of one of them I remind myself they can't help it that they look like this 😅 so I never kill them, always try to either ignore them or catch and release them.
So true! Insects are beautifull, i love them. Every creature beside us humans have my unconditional love and respect.
I usually let them be which is why my flat is a little scary (I know, I know), but those that look poisonous (got bitten once) I put under plastic cup, put a piece of paper under so he doesn't escape and then let him out.
Bless you! I ADORE our spider friends!
I have done that my whole life, moved whatever bugs I find indoors, and relocate them outside. They all have a purpose, even if I don't know it.
Did anyone ever think about immense suffering of farm animals? Americans alone eat far more than one million animals per hour!!! More than three hundred sentient beings are brutally, mercilessly murdered every second!!!! All that for the insatiable appetite for meat, eggs, and dairy - this "food" is not nourishing human body it is destroying it!!! An intense animal agriculture (factory farming) is also a major contributor to our planet's most significant environmental threats, greater than car and industrial pollution.
It is a bit of a tangent, but I totally agree.
Christina Uhlir: I admire that you care for animals, I do too. But, I think your numbers are a little off. Try more like a million animals in SIX MONTHS. To eat a million an HOUR, nearly everyone (including vegetarians & vegans), would have to be eating POUNDS meat at nearly EVERY meal, nearly EVERY day. For starters, there are millions of vegetarians, fruitarians & vegans--no meat eating, there. The numbers of vegetarians, fruitarians & vegans are also GROWING. This cuts several MILLION people out of your numbers right away. Also, ONE cow, & ONE pig, each feeds MANY people--that cuts back some more of your numbers. Millions MORE people, especially POOR people, eat VERY LITTLE meat in the U.S., 'cuz it's expensive for those on low incomes--think an average of a couple times a week at dinner. Maybe If they're lucky. More are CUTTING BACK their meat intake 'cuz of health, environmental & animal rights reasons. Your numbers are impossible, illogical, & don't add up.
